Range Report 6.5x47 vs 260 and 6.5creedmore

Re: 6.5x47 vs 260 and 6.5creedmore

This is what I said early. The Creedmoor was built but no improvement, a little brass change. The Creedmoor doesn't shoot any faster or flatter.

The 260 has been around for a while. The brass selection is getting better but nothing wrong with the old. Mag feed isn't a problem. Shooting 140s at 2800 to 2850 and 123s about 2950 to 3050.

The 47 on the other hand is doing the same with less powder.

Doesn't matter on the 47,260,or the CM. They are all shooting the same bullet at almost the identical speed. I don't any advantage over the first 2 but the 47 yes. Because same speed and less powder.

260 shooting 139s at 600 yards 11.5 moa 2830fps

139s shooting out of any 6.5 gun shooting 2830 fps same dope

What kind of muzzle velocity you seeing with your 20" compared to your 26" barrels?

Re: 6.5x47 vs 260 and 6.5creedmore

about 80 fps faster with the longer barrel. I compared the 2 and not much is given up by going go a 20" barrel. Here is a vid of me chrono my 20" with 123s.

Re: 6.5x47 vs 260 and 6.5creedmore

Damn that's a lot of 260s. 80fps I figured it would be more than that. Not so worried about going with a 24" barrel now. The last barrel length/velocity chart I looked at said something along the lines -- 20fps per inch from 26-22 then 40fps from 22-20. Obviously it's not that cut and dry. Thanks for the real world intel and the video to prove it. Thats's one of the things I have always liked about the shooting community. The majority of the people I have met along the way are more than willing to share their knowledge.

Re: 6.5x47 vs 260 and 6.5creedmore

I went w/ the 47L for the following reasons:

(1) great brass right out of box (I'm very lazy)
(2) no problem loading mag length loads for a short-action.
(3) like the small primer (again, I'm lazy and I load for my 223Rem and I don't have to change anything when switching between the two cartridges).
(4) lots of load data using RL-15 (again, see lazy comment. I use RL-15 in my 223Rem)
(5) lots of BR guys shooting very small groups with the cartridge, which sounds sexy to me.

But with this all said, I have seen all three in the field and they all look the same; shooter makes the real difference. The choice between the three is 100% personal. Do your research and figure out which one works for YOUR situation.

Re: 6.5x47 vs 260 and 6.5creedmore

I understand how similar all of these cartridges are as far as general performance, but I am wondering if perhaps one might pull ahead of the group when you are using an 18"-20" barrel. Perhaps with the right powder in each they are still neck and neck, but by my way of thinking the x47L would be better for shorter barrels than the .260rem based solely off of case capacity. Is there any validity to this, or am I just over analyzing?

Also does anybody know which .308 magazine has the longest internal length/ best for .260? I want to experiment with either m1a/m14, ar10, or L1a1 magazines for my 700.
