7mm PRC

I had a 6.5 barrel speed up almost 160 FPS w factory ammo from the first shot to #150-160ish... same box of factory ammo. Maybe the ES was way off IDK hahaha.

I will let you test it all out first haha what powder are you going to use?
Prob going to end up loading n570 w Berger 190/195 loaded long. Might end up adding some free bore to this chamber. Will be sending a dummy round in when my barrel shows to my smith.

I'm very curious how it does compared to your 7 max. Also on the rcc brass don't they usually have to have a fired case?

Nick338 finally the cartridge I always wanted…. O wait I have been shooting one for a few years 😉. Not a H20 comparison but 7 PRC vs 7 MAX w 70gr N570. Looks like the 7 MAX may have a touch more capacity as the powder sits almost 1/4 inch lower in the neck.

So how long before you build one🤣

I will say, i think this case is the best PRC case yet.
I don't know because I haven't played with it yet. But I can tell you I love my 300 Norma for a heavy prone rifle but the 300 PRC is great if you want a lighter, handier rifle without having to worry about a Lapua size bolt face.

I've already stated why I think the 7 PRC case is the most well rounded 7mm cartridge case.

Ok for my 7mm PRC projects, I've received 50 pieces RCC Brass, Manson Reamer, Whidden die set is in the mail, should be here next week,
I picked up a Sako A7 300 win mag donor, using a 24 inch 1-8 twist #2 contour Benchmark Barrel, hopefully my gunsmith can chamber and install in the near future, I made a cpl dummy rounds with 175gr Berger Elite Hunters to check feeding out of the Sako A7 mag box and all fed well.

I think this is going to an awesome cartridge for hunting or long range shooting,

6.5 PRC has a case length of 2.035 and 284 Win is 2.170
6.5 PRC has a base diameter of .532 and 284 Win is .501

Now if we had a case that was 2.170 long with .532 base that would be interesting. Probably a tad more capacity than a 7-300 wsm to run the 180's hard but not the giant step up to a 28 Nosler. Would still need a long action though which would probably be the deal breaker.

My post in the 7mm Creedmoor thread from 2018

I definitely want some credit for the 7 PRC😂

from 7 SAUM to 7-270 WSM to 7-300 WSM to 7 WSM to 7mm Blaser Magnum to 7 PRC; all with magnum bolt head and from 2.035' to 2.350' long, you still want to have another cartridge?
:poop:

The same can be said for just about every new cartridge that's been released in the last 15 years. Comparatively there is not that much difference between old and new but somewhere there is always going to be someone trying a new way to skin a cat.

Can you find factory ammo on the shelves for any of those cartridges you mentioned? That's what people are refusing to grasp about this. It's not some proprietary company releasing a cartridge that most people other than die hard hand loaders will ever even hear about. Hornady is the ammo giant of the industry and when they release a cartridge (6.5 Creed, 6.5 PRC, 300 PRC), they are marketing it to the entire industry, not a small niche of wildcatters. None of those cartridges will exceed the performance of the ones they targeted in any life changing way but it gives people a choice and we all know much our industry likes choices.

It's really just a modern 7mm Remington with the ability to load longer bullets in a standard long action with plenty of factory support. To get the same performance out of 4 out the 5 other cartridges you mentioned, you're stepping up to minimum a medium action (harder resale) or a long action to load the newer high BC bullets so why not have the a long action cartridge with ammo on the shelves without the hassle of finding brass to neck up or neck down or guys with an existing 7 Rem can simply re-barrel on the same principle as the 300 PRC.

I see it as another win for Hornady. I may not be a fan of their brass but I feel their engineers for cartridge designs are hitting on all cylinders.

aha, i can see what are you aiming for. for factory ammonition with heavy modern bullets. and all those cartridges i mentioned are with slow twist rate or with small freebore, even new 28 nosler is useless in this point.

but for short 7mm with magnum bolt face seems nobody cares, because this is lenght of 6.5 PRC, and they want to make 7mm PRC way longer and powerfull than 6.5 PRC... imho.
so in my opinion there wont be modern short 7mm magnum any time soon. we just need to neck up 6.5 PRC to 7mm if we want to have such cartridge. or buy custom 7SAUM/WSM. and reload...
