Accuracy International AT-X

Someone needs to get ahold of one and give it a few dry fires.

Personally I don’t care about the bolt lift on mine. Yeah it’s a bit heavier than my AT. Its the OG in the 12lbsboltliftgang

But it doesn’t sit right that they take only that rifle to shot without a firing pin in it. For some reason that bothers me and makes me think the “improved” action isn’t anything to brag about

And let’s be honest. The $6500 model comes with what most of us add anyways. Only you can pick up a Gen 1-3 with those accessories for south of $4k in the px

I’m not saying they’re trying to deceive a customer. It is however ironic that they would know this action change will have some people interested. But the fact that they won’t have legit reports on how it operates until they have a backlog of pre orders irritates me

We should be discussing this gun in full now that it’s at shot. But we still aren’t

Ray from X ring spent about 6 seconds on his video as he walked by the AI booth showing the new rifle. All the others like DD and holosun he interviewed and spent some time at. You’d think this show would be the chance to say “hey we listened” and let some gun guys handle the new model and brag it up

We all know what the other upgrades look like. The action is where I want to know what I’m getting for an extra 2 grand

Wait a year or two for the gen improvements to be released. The shit show ATX shouldn’t be forgotten. People paying full price just to watch new gens being pumped out for a discount. Completely ridiculous

That’s the quickloc screw…that does not hold the action to the chassis
My point was that it's bolted into an AT-X chassis. It says AT-X on the magwell, not AT-XC
So who’s actually gonna drop the coin on this “new” ATXC once it hits? think I saw street price around $6500? Big jump and trying to see where the extra $ really goes
I'm very happy with my AT-X. The new version raises the price $1250 dollars but includes a hinge and bridge that combined, cost $520 dollars. Despite AI's faults and missteps, I really like their rifles. But at $6500 dollars, the value is hard to see. I think I will dynamically spend my money on something else.

For the $6500 I could be into a completely new rifle with some Alpha glass and possibly enough money left over for a steak dinner and a beer

I like my AT-X. That being said, I shot one of my FN SPRs yesterday. For $1,400 - 1,700 new (non-A3G) plus a $850 rebarrel (all in). It was and is still one of the best values to ever hit the market.

It's not as smooth as my AI, and the McMillan stocks aren't as adjustable. However, it isn't giving up anything in accuracy, reliability and pure shooting enjoyment.

When I eventually get another rifle, I'll certainly be starting with a base action and assembling it myself. Like you said, you can put an entire rifle together yourself with pretty premium parts for $3,500 - $4K...and have enough left over for a good optic to throw on top.

I still regret not snagging a FN when TacCord blew them out

Maybe one day.

I’ll never sell the AT but for my next toy, I’m gonna get a local guy to spin me up a impact action and drop it into a chassis and rock on with another Steiner and have plenty of money left over for ammo

After having been to SHOT, IIRC the bolts are required to be removed from a safety standpoint. Some vendors get away with complete removing the firing pin - or use a modified firing pin that can't protrude into the headpace to set off a primer. I am guessing they wanted people to be able to handle the new version without having to one of the above to make it inoperable.

Also, I found this for the guy asking about the AXSA
Im getting confused between the two threads talking about the same stuff....

We’ve all seen the part you underlined in red. We’re trying to figure out if theres an AI cheaper than the $6500 ATX available after all of this.

It’s clear the AT won’t be. 308 AX won’t be. So assuming unless mil/le you’re limited to a $6500
ATX?

That's the impression I'm getting. If you want an AI as civilian, it's either ATXC or AXSR.

As .mil/LE, I'm less clear. There's the ATXMil.......but traditionally, other models have been available (AXMC-LE for example).

I am thinking your correct, no low cost option anymore...

Man you’re really not getting it. The AT-X turned into the AT-XC which means it’s discontinued, the literature says the AT and AXSA will be too. How much clearer does it need to be spelled out for you?

Unless they release something else or decide not to discontinue one of the models they say they are then yes this will be the only SA model.

Just hazarding a guess also here - but IIRC there is a import dues cost. My guess that by having AINA build stuff here, the cost of the overall rifle was lower avoiding import costs. Now that the AT-X is manufactured entirely in the UK, the tax value is on the entire rifle, not just the action, so the cost is higher. However this all guessing - since I have zero visibility into AI's operations.

The letter states AT and AX308 specifically. MH pulled basically all the AXSA rifles from its site.

I guess what I’m getting at is Eurooptic has other calibers like 6/6.5 available in the AXSA platform

Are those discontinued as well? Or just the 308 model?

I’m not slow I’m simply asking if there’s other options yet or just ATXC and AXSR available

I guess it makes no difference either way however as the ATXC will still be cheaper than the AXSA either way

The AX308 is what they call their short action AX regardless of what barrel comes on it.

Oh ok I was thinking this was just a 308 option thing

That really sucks. Kind of takes the average buyer out of the AI world now. Unless you find one in the px. But with $6500 the new low going price the used market will be coming up at well.

The days of $3500 AT’s popping up are likely over. Unless anyone can buy from the mil/LE category at mile high

For $6500 you can have top end custom parts and a ZCO 527 from the px here.

I think they really tossed civilians to the curb on this one

Hopefully they don’t halt operations on parts for the old actions/rifles.

The average buyer isn’t buying AI’s at any price, they’re buying $1000 RPR’s, Bergaras, Tikkas, and Savages. The new chassis design is far better than the AT or AX regardless of what type of long range shooting you’re doing. You’re looking at it as what’s the cheapest AI, what about the fact that these are going to run $2K under what the AX’s currently do? They basically pricing them right in the middle of a bare bones AT and the AXSA.

I’m sure there will still be cheap AT’s and AX’s second hand because they’re pretty undesirable compared to modern chassis designs. Regardless, the second hand market in no way dictates new retail on rifles. Im sure the ATX hurt the sales of AT’s and AX’s too, why would you buy an AT for basically the same money or an AX for more money over the better chassis design with the same action? It would be crazy unless you just want it.

I think AI is doing the right thing moving forward with this model as their sole short action rifle. I just hope that they’ll sell the LE/Mil model to anyone wanting a shorter forend to run 16” barrels and you won’t have to be a LE/Mil entity to buy it like the previous models with the LE designation.

The pricing is normal AI behavior. It raises the low-end bar but is cheaper than the AXSA. However, I wonder how new sales will be with this pricing.

For $6500 you could buy a used AXMC with some extras thrown in. I would be more aligned with owning the AXMC than the ATX-XC for the versatility it provides.

If they come out with different forends like mlok and lengths and 223 and magnum bolts for this platform it be excellent

I haven’t seen used AXMC’s for $6500 for a long time and it’s rare to even see one pop up for sale.

Personally though I wouldn’t own an out of production AI for parts support alone, it’s hard enough to get parts for current models.

I don’t see what peoples fascination is with MLOK. They would also have to increase the dimensions of the forend or reduce the material and strength of it to keep the same dimensions in order to have clearance for the MLOK nuts and be able to remove and I stall barrels or clear truck axle contours and people would bitch about that. The keyslot works and there is nothing wrong with it other than people have it in their heads that they need MLOK because it’s the current hot thing. What do you need to attach to a AI rifle forend that you can attach with the keyslot or picatinny on the keyslot? Because I’ve never found anything I couldn’t attach to any of mine or anything that gave me trouble attaching.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for AI to produce 223 or magnum stuff. If you want it bad enough though there are options. I’m sure it won’t be long until the people doing 223 and short mag conversions for previous SA models are doing them for these.

Do you think they would bring a lower price? I haven't seen one for sale in a while unlike the ATs

I agree and posted the same thing yesterday. But it’s an option some people want and could be a selling point on the new platform.

The AXSR’s have been out for a while now which is their replacement, I think if people were going to dump AXMC’s and used value drop it would have happened by now. For the most part I think people just don’t part with them and there’s not as many in the wild as the SA rifles. The fact the AXSR’s are like 10-11K probably helps keep their value up too.

Gen 1 AX’s and AW’s got dumped cheap when the quick lock rifles released in 2014, then the LFP quick locks went for cheap when SFP stuff came available even though you could buy a conversion bolt (if you could find one). Now recently AXSA’s have been selling for as low as $3500 since the ATX’s released. The AXMC’s never really saw the trend and I doubt it will happen.

I have an AXMC and I wouldn’t sell it for anything that is currently available for the money. But I am also too invested in it. :). But I have seen a few for sale in the 6500 to 7500 range. Great bargain if you can find one in that range. I think AI is making the right call here and streaming their lineup.

I’m in the market for another AI within the next few months. I had a decked out Gen 1 ATX that I let go 2 years ago. Had always intended on grabbing another or actually 2. Now with this news I’m debating on holding off and grabbing one to see, but on the other hand, as many have mentioned I could grab another ATX and kit it out pretty nice like I use to have for the same money or less. My only concern is how much will those older ATX still be supported by AI. I’ve already been on the lookout for ancillary add ons like the high action rail and other parts that have seemed to be out of stock for months with no idea when shit is coming back.

The folding stock feature is nice but let’s face it, a $250 hinge doesn’t justify a $2200-2400 price increase. Maybe if it was the better AXSR style stocks like they promised 2 years ago it might be more justifiable. Also, the ATX pre orders we were told late spring (May iirc) and the first batches didn’t start dropping until September. I have a few months to wait while my shoulder heals from surgery but I’m not gonna be waiting all summer.

According to shot show guys the plan is to keep producing parts for the current AW/AT rifles out there. They’ll be available to LE as rifles yet

The ATX is the same action as the AT and AX to my knowledge. Same scope rail/bolt etc

People are getting wound up about the long rail and folder hinge while the redesigned action (slimmer, lighter, increased number of bolts, gas pressure blast discs, different bolt lift allegedly etc.) is where the juice is. The 'standard model' AT-XC will be a good option for most shooters.

There is nothing wrong with buying one of those and adding your own muzzle brake, weights and bag rider based off personal preference down the track as required.

Fortunately I own an AXSR and a Gen1 AT-X, with my preference absolutely going to the AXSR in terms of feel, function and small detail refinements. If AI can merge these two rifles together, well that's excellent.

The AT has been around for a long time on the back of the AE and AW while the AX has been around since before 2014. LE versions pumped some more air into their tyres... But surely at some point a company has to move on and cut away older designs. Parts and serviceability of course needs to be managed with thousands of these rifles in circulation however continuing to make these rifles while they're not multiple generations ahead doesn't make a lot of sense unless the market is absolutely frothing over stock.

They are technically all the same but the there was a specific High action rail made for the ATX to make sure it aligned with the longer picatinny rail on the fore ends. The AX rail and the original high rail for the AT would not align correctly. So the high action rail for the ATX has been out of stock at both EO & MH for several months now. Maybe they are just waiting to restock until after the new year/new models come out. But the availability of parts being in stock as been pretty scares since launch.

Exactly

I think these cheap atx that are around now won’t be cheap long. Just like the ATs got cheap then price went up again

The heavy bolt lift union is probably going to file a grievance against me for this…but my discontinued and heavy bolt lift ATX got another first place finish @Steelcityprecision Rifleman’s Challenge.

Congrats. I used to see guys brag about winning matches with a Savage rifle. When that happened people would say it didn’t matter what rifle the shooter used because they would have won anyways. So, did you win the match or did the rifle win the match?

My statements are more tounge and cheek and playful than serious. It’s kinda a running joke that no one can win a match with an AI due to the heavy bolt lift, throw on top of that the new AT-XC and the ATX being discontinued and it’s even funnier.

I truly believe it’s the Indian, not the arrow. Having said that, I would not have won the match if I was running another rifle because I do not have familiarity with another rifle / system. I have been only running AI’s for at least 5years and the same rifle for at least two (Gen 1 ATX). Fear the man with one gun mentality.

Additionally, I no longer shoot PRS. I shoot field and team matches that require you to know your gear and be proficient in using that gear in the elements, with time restrictions, and sometimes under duress. Most of the field and team matches are blind stages and all are find / range / engage on the clock.

Definitely. As much as I complain about the bolt lift, it was less noticeable after a few months of use. Then I switched to another rifle and felt like I was going to rip the bolt off lol.

As much as we hate to hear people complaining, it does lead to innovation. Garmin, for instance, was listening.

Only thing I'm really aggravated about it the comment that all the future bolt face options will only come for the new action design

So they talked up magnum bolts to everyone buying the atx and then basically said fuck yall buy another 6500 rifle if you ever want that option even though we have been saying it was coming for years now

Not sure if this is old news, but I saw that Mile High has the "new" AT-X optimized magazine listed. This also qualifies for the small ground hog day discount that they are running today. I picked up 2 for $107.94 each.

I wonder if its forwards compatible with the AT-XC with its new bolt and action features? I also have been using the standard AX magazines, anyone know what problems this one is supposed to address for the AT-X over using the AX magazines?

I’m not exactly sure, but both magazines I have for my ATX had issues with feeding 6.5CM and occasionally rounds would pop out of the magazine when inserting it. I sent both to AI and they adjusted the lips and I think they replaced both inserts as well because one of my magazines (the heavily used one) came back with a new insert. The other magazine’s insert, I couldn’t tell if it replaced because it was a new magazine.
I suspect that’s part of the optimization.
