Rifle Scopes Best Production Class Scope 2020

Looking for a solid Mil/Mil optic for PRS production class. Production Division rifle shall not exceed $2,500 USD as listed on the company’s website. The optic shall not exceed $2,000 USD as listed on the company’s website.

I've seen a lot of full on customs from MPA, Seekins, PVA, even GAP sellign rifles right at 2499 to squeek into the rules. Who's making top tier glass at 1999.99?

What company? The unedited OP that i originally replied to just asked for "production scopes for PRS". because you can't partsbin a scope in your garage like an AR, I listed the four best production scope companies on the market.

“Production Class” in PRS has limits on price of optics and rifle. Although I’m not sure the point anymore as they keep raising the threshold. The rifle limit is more than my custom open gun.

Do people acutally shoot production? A lot of scope mfgs list silly MSRPs on their websites and have MAP/street prices hundreds of dollars lower.... So buy having by an optic with a $2k MSRP you are limiting your options a bit...

If I really had to I probably rock a Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 Mil-XT since I really like the MIL-C and XT reticles. The biggest downside is the picky eyebox and parallax.

Otherwise, the Athlon Cronus BTR or a Bushnell Elite Tactical DMRII come to mind.

I'd much rather buy the best equipment I can afford and know that I was the limiting factor and the sole reason for all of the suck, and not because I skimped on gear because of some silly class that makes no difference at the end of the day.

In theory Production Class is a great idea to bring in new shooters. It also has the byproduct of manufacturers putting out some nice rifles at a decent price point.

Don't limit yourself, buy the best equipment you can afford. If you end up qualifying for Production Class that is great. If not who cares, shoot and have fun.

A better alternative to Production Class is a "New Shooter Class". Give a trophy and/or a prize to top new guy or gal. End of rant. Let the flaming begin. And yes I do shoot matches and yes the one match I help as MD we have FNG class and pay out to top FNG.

Tract Toric is on par with the Cronus. New PRS reticle version is $1300 direct so that’s both the real price (unless it’s on sale occasionally) and the MSRP.

I have a rifle and shoot open class a lot, gas gun and tactical sometimes. I am not interested in debating the validity of the class.
Lots of rifle builder as making some good rifles at 2499 MSRP and aren’t discounting. Just look at the new offerings from GAP PVA and MPA.These are pretty squarely aimed at PRS Production Class.


I was curious if any scope makers were doing the same thing... making a scope that would be aimed at this class.
I’ll probably throw a 5-25 PST Gen II on the Tikka but wanted towhat’s up with the sub $2k glass

I like my Cronus BTR a lot. For what it’s worth:

1. I could identify a truck’s brand (at this point it’s been over a year, can’t remember whether it was Ford or Chevy) from the color of the badge on the tailgate at about 1.5 miles distance
2. My rifle got knocked off a bench and landed on the muzzle and scope, and it held zero just fine.

How would they police it? Manufacturer MSRP is easily available if they have any questions. Otherwise you could get a receipt for whatever price you need to qualify and use a zco or s&b.


For what it's worth I could qualify for what I paid, but I shoot open because I really like my Mark 5hd and I'm not going to suffer with crap glass to game. (Plus it's really fun telling the guys I beat it's a factory barreled $800 rifle that beat them. Glass and handloads are more important.)

Agree 100%. The top shooters will still be at the top with Production Class gear. Just don't see how that brings more shooters into the game which was the intent of the class. My point is that shooters should buy the best gear they can afford and not worry about what class that puts them in.

In my opinion shooting is not about money and how much you have to spend. It is learning a rifle and learning to shoot. I am surrounded by dudes who buy stuff constantly but rarely shoot...thus they suck at shooting. Even with all thier fancy stuff. Buy what you like and shoot....then shoot some more. Cost limited classes are good for shooters who dont want to play with guys using hedge funds to buy shots.

Until they come out with an Economy Class and then maybe a Bubba Class, the Production Class is just a method of spreading competitors between additional tiers or divisions instead of actually "bringing in more shooters".

The Burris XTR III 3.3-18 squeaks in right under the $2k price. Optically and mechanically I like it better than the NF NX8. Best scope I’ve seen under $2k of late.

The normal man can show up and shoot. The tripod/bags/attachments are what guys hate.

We started banning tripods on everything but prone stages. Guys weren't showing up and when you asked the first thing they said was "I'll never spend $1200 on a tripod I'll never use outside the game".
After we shut down tripod use we fill every match again.

Lets try to get this back on track. I am asking who’s got nice glass at $2000 MSRP or who’s selling glass at exactly MSRP like the rifle guys.

Seems like we have not yet seen manufacturers game the system with glass like they have with rifles.

I agree that the shooter makes the difference on hits.
I think it is lazy to ban a piece of equipment because of lack of try. Shooters will spend $10000 on a rifle setup that is specifically setup for matches, and sucks most everywhere else, then have their feelings hurt if somebody changes the equipment you can use. A tripod can be limited by stage design, and massively useful outside of matches for all kinds of tactical or hunting applications.
To the op, a burris xtriii is a great option right now, as is the NX8. You can also find a cronus btr that will work.

When they saw me wandering around in a buck skin, repleat with horns, they appeared out of nowhere, placed the scope on my antlers and vanished in a puff of elf smoke. I thought he wore a name tag that said “Larry.”

I have this scope lovingly swaddled in a purple Crown Royal bag inside one of my many safes.

I agree about the glass and handloads, but they let you run a 2500$ rifle....... so production, is more like budget custom. And stuff has a regular street price, midway brownells, opticsplanet, etc. are all within 50-100$ of each other’s non sale price. Take the average
