It's hard not to laugh when your drill ends with your rifle barrel sticking through two rows of paper targets. At least put a bayonet on your rifle, and use zombie targets for crying out loud. I could see where they were going with it then. I'm no master of "tactics", but I would think their would be better drills to use my ammo on than that?

Thanks, Bolt OR. There are many differences between 'Smoke and Mirrors' and myself. I seriously doubt that he is better educated no more intelligence than either of us. He just likes to make a show of what little he has and doesn't seem to be able to just say, "I was wrong".
As to my being a dick, often that seems true. But I do have a serious side that considers many deep issues. Unfortunately, most of those are not permitted here, and I understand why, and agree that they are best left un discussed (here). So in light of being able to discuss things that I have knowledge in, such as philosophy and rights, I just take the Shanksteresque position and make jokes.
It's funny, when it comes to discussion of philosophy, every one seems to think that their view is equal. But if you discuss, say, nano physics, most of us would defer to someone who has a studied that in depth, and not opine that our view was equal. Or I would defer to Frank if I wanted to discuss LR shooting as he has a lot more experience than I. I studied philosophy at UVA which at the time had one of the top programs in the country. Did quite well and acquired nearly 40 credits in my major. Not to say I am a genius, or beyond error, but I know what Im talking about 'In this arena'. So when Smokey comes around and think his non logical, emotionally charged arguments are on par with the logic I offer, I just laugh and make a joke. No hard feeling intended. Im a man, I have a good strong sense of positive self esteem. I can take being teased and let it roll of like water off a duck, and give it back as well as I take it. Apparently Smokey has a poor self esteem and therefore must defend himself to the last ounce of his being.
Case in point: Regarding the issue of suicide which Smokey and I got into it over in a past thread. Logically, I hold that that is the one indisputable right that every one has. To say other wise is clearly to support slavery.
Consider. An individual is born in a country, doesn't like what he sees going on, and decides he wants to leave. As long as he is freely permitted to leave, no problem. But iif those who wield power say "You must stay and do as we say", to me that is clear and simply, enslavement, and not justifiable at any level. Thinking sideways, and individual is born into a society or life that he doesn't find acceptable and decides they want to end that life cycle, to deny them that right on any 'moral', or religious, or societal taboo bullshit, is nothing less than slavery, clear and simple. Yet Smokey couldn't wrap his mind around the concept of 'inalienable rights' and threw up his emotional diversion to distract from not having a logical response.
Finally, I don't see that you are attacking, certainly no more than Smokey...he is just a little whiner.

Does bring back memories of one of our Deputies coming to my range years ago with the "Don Johnson Horizontal Tactical Pistol Assault Method". As I remember it wasn't too humorous at the time. Being a relative of the Sheriff it only got him 6 mos of desk duty instead of another job.

However, the problem I have is not necessarily with posts and threads that are intentionally funny.
This thread prompted me to review the site's rules. And I think we could all do with a little circumspection before we cite their violation as proof of someone's faults. First, not only do they forbid "personal attacks", they also forbid "baiting". Moreover, this rule may be apropos: "Do not post off-topic. Please keep your comments consistent with the subject and purpose of the conversation thread. Deliberate disruption -- such as consistent off-topic commentary -- will not be tolerated." [Emphasis mine]
In my opinion, angels are few and far between on the Hide.
Now, lest you knuckleheads think I'm just throwing Graham under the bus let me reiterate my position that there are a lot of people on this site these days who need to just shut their pie holes, read, think, and shoot, before they make smart-arse quips and/or post stupid, repetitive, or arf-ish questions and comments. Furthermore, this site constantly confirms my criticism of public education. The grammar of many of you is atrocious. Did you finish school? If so, is that what they taught you? For the sake of my sanity and to assuage my fears for our future pick up a rudimentary grammar and spelling guide and use it!
By definition, 50% of all people are below the median level of intelligence. As they say at the poker table: if you can't spot the dummy in the first five minutes...it's you! Hopefully some of you will get a chuckle out of that. The others can fall over yourselves rushing to contact the mods to alert them to my crushing of your feelings. In the meantime, before I join that other Cartman guy (presumably "Eric Cartman", although I'm not certain) in getting banned, learn English. Well, just 'Cartman', I appreciate your sincere post. But this is the "Bear Pit" the place to blow off steam. I cant really see any of what Id call personal attacks, just the boys, myself included, jousting. Herodotus, in speaking of the Spartans, remarked that they would play rough, and tease a lot, but never more than one could bear. To me that's a good way to look at. Ive taken a LOT on here, and have given it back, had some serious disagreements with Slap, and Graham, and a few others, but I've never felt crushed, as you mentioned. I have seen some people who offended most get ridden pretty hard. In fact just the other day a member, who will remain unnamed, got ridden til he had to remove the whole thread. He came back with a seemingly different attitude. I chalk it up to a learning experience. I think that's all I have to say. If I fall on the lower side of your 50%, apologies.

Some people post stupidities and then get defensive when questioned about what they posted. I can't help that. But before you repeat someone else's information it's a good idea to first consider the source and the accuracy.
Maggot is just harassing me because he thinks I owe him an explanation as to why I won't debate him on some other thread. He wants to goad me into talking to him. He wouldn't have to engage in those kinds of tactics if he hadn't already burned bridges with others here.
Meanwhile, you are the one who chooses to disrupt other peoples' threads by posting gratuitously for your sole benefit. We need to look no further than your activity on this Thread for proof of that.
You may have missed it, but I was trying to stand up for you to a great extent. Many personal attacks -- and at least one person saw things that way -- are precipitated by the victim baiting the attacker; sometimes in another thread. And baiting also is against the rules.
I will note, without implying any judgment one way or the other, that web forums are replete with instances where someone was banned yet they felt they did nothing wrong.
And, for the record, I personally love funny posts and threads; including this one. And I too have suffered my share of slings and arrows. The worst are those that appear to be completely unprovoked. I try to ensure there is some deserving on the receiving end of my caustic screeds but, as I said, I'm no angel.

Sure, criticism in print can sound a bit harsh, but to me it boils down to a quality issue: Often among the most tenacious on this site the quality of the criticism simply isn't there. Because the experience really isn't there either. And they know it, so they try to make up for that with cheap gimmicks like repeated name-calling. It reminds me of bad comics who, when they see their monologue start to tank, try to save it by insulting the audience to get cheap laughs.
That's why I miss NOBODY. Since Larry left I have been consistently underwhelmed by those who have tried so hard to usurp the role.
