The fact that the title of this thread is "Fro your Kids..." is just priceless. It's either a play on words worthy of a Pulitzer or the best typo ever!
Cheers,

Honestly this doesnt surprise me........especially coning from an "uppity" college.....
People in admissions are fucking morons.....i gurantee you they saw the essay....and the fact that he had a middle eastern name and wre like " well we have to let him in".......
I get students all the time that honestly have no business being in college....none.
They are coming to me withhout knowing basic math......without knowing how to form a sentance.....and who have no problem solving skills..........and its really a shame, because the people in admissions MUST know about this, and that the students dont have the ability to do the work...
Where do you teach? Just curious.
^^^ I'd send that as a PM... think what Mass students would do if they outed you as hanging out in this crowd ;-)

I also miss the idea of text books. My kids come home with worksheets but no book to explain how the instructor wants the problem done. They get gigged if they do it the way my wife and I know how to do stuff.
We send the kids to Kumon. I don't know if that is a plus or minus. Id appreciate insight from any teacher types regarding that. Kumon uses repetition and allows kids to problem solve the way I learned.
My thinking is I don't care how you get to the right answer just get there. The kids teachers, its more about the process.
I hope the kids have some interest in a trade school education. I think it sucks that there is a bias that believes trade schools are for the dumb kids - I argue its quite the opposite. I went to a trade school and could pick up Klein pliers tomorrow and find myself a job.

.......when people ask me "im interested in engineering, how should i get started?.......i tell them to learn welding and machining..........because at the base of it, those are the 2 most "primitive" engineering skills.....knowing how to cut metal, and put metal together........it not only makes you a better engineer..........but it also gives you more opportunity for work
Man, wouldn't it be great if it were a requirement! I think of all the times I have rabidly cursed some faceless engineer somewhere for the way he designed something I'm trying to repair, because it was designed with no thought for what happens in the field, and almost always the design solution would have been EXTREMELY simple. But no thought was ever given to it, because they never had to worry about anything beyond getting it through manufacturing.
Some nitwhit whos never turned a wrench designed the thing on a computer......and applied no thought to basic repairs.
Ill bet he had the academic credentials to get in, but still................
That reminds me of the time i was doing the shocks on my sisters toyota......
Normally you would just jack up the car, remove the upper and lower shock bolts, and replace the shock....maybe a 1 hr job right?
The fuckers that built the thing made it so you couldnt pull the bolt all the way out unless you completely disassembled the lower controll arm and took the hub carrier off....fucking 4 hr job.
The solution to this......put the bolt in from the other side.....so you pull the bolt out towards the chassis and not towards the hub carrier....so thats how i put it back together.

i honestly blame a lot of the issues on "common core".......i see the way they teach common core math and im like "well no wonder they dont understand this, fuck I dont understand this.....".........it is literally the most ass backwards way of teaching math that i have ever seen.........i really needs to be done away with.

Whoa there bud. Just maybe the slanties did it that way so when some one doesn't use the correct torque spec, the bolts dont fall out going down the road, leading to suspension failure , and a killed family and lawsuite.

Perhaps you could tell us a bit more about how to "form a sentance."

considering i wrote that post on a cellphone...i think im entitled to one spelling error....
but if you need me, ill be in the corner
Hey, you are more than welcome to all the spelling and gramatical errors you need. You have to admit it is funny when they come up in a post bemoaning the dire state of education today, simultanously claiming your own lofty place within said educational system. However, cell phone or not, there is no need for a self imposed time out.
Thanks Veer, I'm just a machinist though so I'm not going to go to the corner.
One "m" versus two, "mm." I sure hope you get the difference.![]()
Being a machinist doesn't mean that you automatically have no need for your own language. Hell, it's free, might as well explore it. The m versus mm reference was meter and millimeter. Sorry if I may have cramped your style in any way.
