I'd say that aside from an engineering standpoint, the price is innovative as well. If anyone on here has spent some time in a manufacturing environment, they'll know what it takes to make this. For those that haven't, I'd suggest a tour of any machine shop to see whats needed to produce even so much as a washer.

Agreed. The Origin occupied this space in 2017. It wasn't revolutionary, but the combo of features at the $800 price point ($900 now) was a new benchmark. Anybody who holds a CDG and an Origin in their hands and thinks they're equal is just not using their brain.

As for the Origin vs CDG I think a lot of these talking points are not as critical as we'd like to imagine. I've got an early 2xx Origin that unintentionally had the ability to control cock on close and firing pin fall. Though, If you find yourself needing to adjust firing pin fall you should probably send the action back.

I'll have the CDG when I get back from Christmas and do a comparison between the two. But let's not get caught up on pinned recoil lugs... that's dumb.

Question for those with hand on experience with the CDG and Impact actions…which do you find to be smoother.

I’m about to pull the trigger on getting a 300 NM and I’m struggling between the two actions.

I think I’m leaning towards CDG but obviously Impact comes with a lot of legacy.

Just some random experiences I figure I'd share with a regular human bartender such as yourself...

I've got 3x AI's, 3x Archimedes (all running single stack mag calibers), 1x CDG, 1x TL3, 1x Impact, and just recently picked up a rifle off the PX here that was built on an Origin that is going to serve as a loaner to friends for varmint hunting.

They're all good actions and function just fine, but my favorite actions in terms of overall smoothness and overall use experience in terms of bolt lift/feel/effort and feeding smoothness are the Archimedes and the CDG.

The Archimedes is single stack mag only and shines for calibers like 223 that only have single stack mags as it has a proper feed ramp, while my CDG is running AW mags and is stupid smooth running 22GT. (I have not tried single stack mags in my CDG, as I didn't buy it for that, but a few here have said the CDG can have occasional feeding issues with calibers like 223AI since the CDG doesn't have a full feed ramp at 6 o'clock and can present the rounds from single stack mags to the breech at non-optimal angles, hence the coned breech.)

The TL3 and Origin are also nice, especially if you tune the cocking pieces for your trigger, and so is the Impact-- although the Impact not being a 100% cock on open action there is a slight bump when closing the bolt when it does the remainder of the firing pin cocking. I know some people bitch about the slight bump on close with the Impact, but in my experience it doesn't disturb the sight picture and the Impact "bump on close" is nearly imperceptible when I run it back to back with one of my AI's which have a far more pronounced bump on close.

Impact has the advantage that nearly everyone makes prefits for it. Same goes for the TL3 and Origin. The CDG, not so much, although availability of prefits for the CDG is better now than earlier this year.

CDG with the pivoting bolt handle installed can have issues with really light triggers with minimal internal sear engagement as there is no primary extraction cam on the pivoting bolt handle to slow the forward velocity on the bolt when closing the bolt fast. Not an issue with my Bix triggers at 1#, but it can be an issue with other triggers set very light. This can be avoided by installing the non-pivoting bolt handle (which unfortunately takes away one of the coolest features of the CDG) and other more conventional actions with regular primary extraction cams on the bolt handle like the Impact and TL3 won't have this potential issue.

Also, some people don't like how mechanical ejector actions like the TL3/Archimedes/CDG really huck your brass quite far when running the bolt fast, whereas a typical spring plunger ejector action like the Impact chucks your brass in pretty much the same spot regardless if you run the bolt at moderate or fast speeds.

I know my TL3, Archimedes, and Impact will all run if I get caught in swirling dust and the actions get a little dirty. I don't know how the CDG handles a bit of dirt/dust yet as I have yet to shoot it in that kind of enviornment and probably won't subject it to those kinds of conditions for a few more months. It may be an issue or it may not be an issue, but I don't know for myself yet.

My opinion... they all work, but the CDG is a hell of a nice action at the $900 price point especially if you want to run AW mags-- but prefit availabilty could be better. If I was going to build another rifle today in a caliber that would run out of AW mags, I would buy a second CDG. Nothing against the TL3 and Impact that I have, but I prefer the overall feel of the CDG and you can't argue with the price.

My opinion might be different if I was one of those people that can't live with a trigger heavier than 5oz and said light trigger didn't play nice with the CDG and the pivoting bolt handle. I have not tried setting up my CDG and Bix that way to see if it has issues with dropping the trigger when closing the bolt fast.

There's a reason I ordered the CDG, sounds like it's going to be awesome. If the advantages are significant then it'll stand on its own. The CDG doesn't turn my Origin into trash that may have a catastrophic failure.

The Origin is well worth its price but the CDG is an insane value.

Welp, ordered a 28" finished length heavy comp 7.5tw 6.5mm blank from hawkhill. Gonna try the Morgun King thing and run 153.5 Bergers at 2650 or so. Should buck wind pretty well for prs out here in the Rocky Mtns.

It seems that there has been a modification made to the CDG extractor components. I received two replacement extractor kits today for the 0.378" and 0.473" bolt heads that ordered.

The new extractor kit includes an extractor, a 2.5mm diameter x 5mm long pin and a spring.

This only applies to CDG bolt head assemblies shipped prior to August 31, 2023.

An issue was found that if the bolt strikes the bolt stop at high speeds, in some instances, the extractor can be ejected from the action. This is more likely to occur in larger calibers utilizing heavy cases.

The most noticeable difference is that the small ball has been replaced by a 2.5mm diameter x 5mm long pin. But ARC says to replace all three pieces with what is in the kit.

The pin can be seen in the new video that Ted released.

I had no issues with mine in several hundred rounds, but mine isn't a magnum either.

The new extractors are finished much nicer than the originals as well. Nicely polished on the bottom corner where the case first engages out of the magazine.

I dunno, any of the other ones in the safe. Mausingfield, Nucleus, Archimdes, CDG, Zeus, Valor, Deadline 2, Kelblys Atlas Tac - even my Badger M2013 with a clipped firing pin spring. Id take my AI over it too.

Its just wild to have a premium action with that obnoxious hitch on close, under the proviso of "yeah but if you run it really fast it feels good". All the others feel good running fast or slow (the AI being the most industrial feeling of the lot, but at least its an AI, not a race action).

Shoots fn amazing. 153.5 LRHT are up to 2640-2660 now after 250 rounds, and it's very accurate. Running 38.8gr H4350, jumping 30k, 28" pipe. After taking hunting season off from matches, hoping to be at rock lake next weekend with the rifle.

When you get the chance, can you test ejection pattern for us? Just curious to see if the new kit would also change the ejection from a forward biased ejection to more of a lateral 3 o'clock ejection.

Ive got about 100 rounds with the new extractor. Zero change for me, but mine has always had 3:00-3:30 ejection.

Haven’t received the new ejection kit, but mine has about 30 rds on it and they all came out at 3-4 o’clock.

I've had no issues using the CDG in .223/5.56 with ACIS magazines.

Yes, would recommend. I'm not running 223 yet but would very much like to be at some point. A little brother to my 6.5.

The fact ARC dropped all their other actions, is a bit of a red flag. The nucleus was on its third iteration, the archimedes just always worked. Now the new latest/greatest comes out and all other sku's are gone, as well as their aics mag offering. How long till Tedd comes out with another new design and the CDG is an afterthought of the past? I own two of these and it's a serious question of mine.
