I went and did it. Never thought I would actually build up a .22, but I borrowed a 455 and shot a NRL22 match; now I have the bug. This is the start of something beautiful, or a rabbit hole leading to a Voodoo. Don’t know which yet.

Parts are on the way to finish this out. Has anyone had cheek weld issues with the Tacticool stock, Area 419 base and low rings (.83")? Just wondering if I will need to build up the cheek piece.

Yes. I installed the Matthew's adjustable cheek riser on my Tacticool. Amazing.

It's worth the time, expense, & effort to experiment with various lots of SK Std+, Rifle Match, and LR Match. Same goes for Lapua Center-X. Doesn't matter how much a given brand/grade of ammo costs, you'll still need to try several different lots of the stuff to find what your barrel likes best.

Ordered a new Boyd’s stock for my Cz 457 Varmint , came in a few days later. Fit and finish seems to be pretty good so far. I’ll have pillars installed and get it bedded when I’ve got the time.

I bought a Boyds ProVarmint for one of my Howa Mini builds a year or so ago, with the adjustable CP and laser stippling to make it a little easier to hang onto the stock. I re-barreled a 222 Mini for 20 Tactical, and it's a sweet shooting rig. Bet you're going to really enjoy your 457 Varmint in that stock! Only downside as far as I'm concerned is that laminate stocks tend to be heavier than regular wood.

My MTR really likes the Norma Match and the older Wolf Match. It does Ok with CCI SV. It shot the CCI Select really well but it fell apart at 200+ yards. I was disappointed with Eley Center X. It just did not like it. I am going to try some of the Federal GMM when I can find it again.

You really can't judge an ammunition by how one lot of it shoots in your rifle. If you meant Lapua Center-X, I've had individual lots of of it that weren't as good as good lots of SK Std+. IOW, if you want to find something that's good in your rifle, you're going to need to buy samples of several lots of it to get any idea whether it's going to shoot well. Have seen some guys post here about buying a box of premium ($20/box or more) match grade ammo to test - which is a good way to waste money without a reasonable expectation of finding good ammo for their rifle.

The adjustable comb is an option for the pro varmint stocks, no matter what inlet you order it in.

Here is my CZ 457 Pro Varmint.

I checked my 25 yard zero this evening - shooting in a match tomorrow.

I have not adjusted the trigger yet.

Target is 10 shots of CCI SV.

Put 150 though it this afternoon. Only had CCI SV and FGMM. It liked the CCI. Best group of the day below. Forgot calipers. Second best group just below. Pulled the last shot. Need to adjust the trigger.

LOP is way too short. Need to get some spacers or something. Thought about just getting the VPT but the LOP is only 1/4” longer. It might be the long eye relief in the scope too pushing my head back for a better sight picture.

Is this a new magazine, or did it used to work but now it doesn't? If it's a new magazine and all 9 of the previous rounds eject but not number 10, or 5 if a 5 rnd magazine, I'd suspect that the follower in the magazine is in backwards. If it's not backwards, the spring under the follower may need to be rotated 180 degrees on its vertical axis. CZ is notorious for installing the followers in backwards during the mfg process.

Can you post a closeup profile picture of the problem magazine?

This happened a few times to me. I was barely pulling the bolt back on the last round.

I started really racking it back and the issue stopped.

Typically I wouldn’t care, as most things I shoot are 10 rounds anyway. But yesterday I participated in the apple seed project, 2 rounds, change mag 8 rounds. I got hung up on that a few times. So it became an issue for me.

Has anyone found a way to improve on the magwell of the 457? I plan to use my new 457 to compete with PRS but I'm not happy with the fumbling around trying to insert a mag in the rifle. Has anyone found a way to make the mag insert easier?

Be thankful you aren't using an anschutz, their sheetmetal mag system from the 50's sucks for quick, easy changes. I put a large piece of orange tape on the left side of the rifle that lines up with the magwell. Does nothing for feel but is optically easy to see the magwell now on my 455 (which uses the same magazine system as the 457).

So I started shooting NRL matches and rimfire and have discovered I really enjoy it. I actually enjoy it a lot more than centerfire. I think one of the reasons is I’m not thinking about how much it costs every time I pull the trigger. Anyway I have decided I want a CZ 457 to add to my collection. Right now I am in the process of figuring out exactly how I want to go about this. I have considered buying a CZ457 scout. If I did that I would just use the action and get a Lilja barrel and drop it in a MPA chassis. The other options I have considered is just to buy a Precision trainer and be done or buy one of the Pro Varmint models and upgrade it a little at a time. My hope is KRG will release a chassis for it eventually. My T1X is in a KRG and I have been really impressed with their products and the people who run the company. My biggest question is will I see a really significant improvement between a factory Precision trainer and a custom barreled rifle in a chassis. I just wonder what kind of return in accuracy I will get for all the additional cost of the full customer rifle.

Precision trainer means you get a manners stock, thats it over the pro varmint. The manners may still need bedded as some have posted here. Based on this the custom should shoot better since it will have the custom barrel.

Recently was looking at getting a pro varmint and hoping they did another keystone barrel buy, started adding it all up and I was close to a vudoo barreled action price, something to think about when you add up all the little "would be nice to have" items.

@WAsquirrelsniper - i did that math myself, its close but the difference is actually about a 1/2 case of ammo. if you can find a scout for a decent price, get the keystone barrel and then by a chassis or manners you are looking around 1400-1500 or so. unless you have a chassis or stock to drop the vudoo into, that cost would have to be figured in to the vudoo cost

but you are right when you start factoring in all the nice to have things, that cash register rings quick.

I shoot a 23lb gun most of the time. It has spoiled me for barricades and odd positions, the gun just settles down faster if is heavier. I could train out of that and get used to light again but it doesn't really matter to me if my gun is light... I don't need it to be light.

Thats why I love my MDT ACC 455 chassis. I have my CZ 455 custom barreled action dropped in it with 2 internal forend weights and 2 external weights and I LOVE it. Mimics my centerfire ACC setup.

If you want to you can shoot my .223 trainer... It's a copy of my match gun. It's yours anytime you want to come and play. I also have a 308 that would work and it's much lighter?

Stock Pro Varmint with W/ Element 2. Eley Match 5@50yd

Also, took it out to 300 on a 10in plate. 14 mil elevation and .5mil windage. Very calm day. Was hitting all day on it with the Eley Match.

Couldn’t connect at 400 on the 6in plate.

I bought a cz457 “at-one” in 24” flavor. Put some area 419 goodies on it and my pos gen2 pst ebr2c and some rings I couldn’t seem to give away. In gusting wind i could put a decent group at 50 yards with a bipod missing a nut on the leg. Wind played the biggest role.

After this I adjusted down the trigger and have killed about 200 prairie dogs, some in az some in Colorado on my buddy's ranch.

Using wolf target match with all this and tried extra match with no real change. Its the only ammo i have tried, but its stupid quiet with an ti-rant 45 can with fixed barrel adapter.

I’ve made more people jealous with a $600 dollar gun than all my 3-5k dollar rifles. It has won my heart and here to stay!

It's the lightweight cheek that Manners offers on their compact stocks. Pretty straight forward install, if you're comfortable drilling 2 1/2" holes in a brand new CF Manners. It comes with 2 1/8" spacers and 1 1/4" spacer for a max height of 1/2". I have the 1/4" in it and its perfect.

I was contemplating having StockDoc do a full Loggerhead job, but I HATE sending stuff out for work. After speaking with Jim at Manners, I went with this option and did the install myself with a drill and a little MarineTex. I am in no way disappointed. It looked like it might have too much flex in the pictures online, but it is solid as a rock.
