Trump is an antagonist and was useful in opening the eyes of conservative voters to options beyond RINO neocons. He buried the presidential aspirations of about 15 dipshits who never should have gotten anywhere near the debate stage. This is all good work.
But he's not the leader of a movement. He lacks ideas, and is totally and utterly incompetent at picking staff and establishing lines of succession. His ego is fragile as eggshells. He's also an aging Boomer and I am 100% done voting for men over the age of 60. (Exceptions would be made for Ron Paul, since he's apparently been blessed/cursed with sufficient longevity to see all his predictions come true.)

There's a lot of time between now and the '24 primaries; let's hold off on crowning our next contender.

I used to lean pretty heavy to the pro life side of the abortion debate, but have recently changed my stance. As I watched some of these broadcasts of the feminazis protesting the overturn of Roe, I began asking myself if why the hell would I want any of them reproducing and polluting the gene pool. Against my better judgement, I'm going to dip a toe in here but don't plan to respond...or even read...what I'm sure will be a number of critical (nicest word I could think of) responses.
I;m a 70 y.o. life long Republican and have voted straight Republican since 1972. So, save the RINO crap, I'm not interested in those who divide the GOP due to their view of other's insufficient ideological purity.
This is just the way I see it.
The GOP's failure to win large margins in the House and Senate can, IMO, be traced to a few things;
1) SCOTUS abortion ruling. Very bad timing
2) Trump's very visible presence and influence in general and, in particular, his impact on getting his chosen, but often very weak, candidates thru the GOP primary and into the general election. Primaries, of either party, are determined by the party's far wing of partisan stalwarts and have little to do with the views of the broader electorate. IMO, this is why we end up with such shit choices of candidates to vote for.
3) Most of the same Trump endorsed candidates are still disputing the 2020 election as stolen by fraud which is anathema to a very large swath of voters. These candidates sound just like Clinton and Abrams claiming elections were stolen and this does NOT resonate with most voters no matter which party this crap comes from.
Want to win the WH in 2024... Trump, his megomaniacal ego and uncontrolled big mouth need to be sidelined. This is real politics, like it or...well, lose again.
Think of it...the only person Trump could have beaten was Hillary Clinton, one of the most hated politicians in existence.

I loved Trump’s policies, the guy not so much. He showed me a lot when he attacked Desantis, none of it good. It was just uncalled for.

The Dem got less than 47%. In the run off, the Dem won because Rispone pissed off so many Republicans by doing what he did that they stayed home and didn’t get out and vote.
I could see the same thing happening here is Trump doesn’t get his giant ego in check. He is the only candidate that President Potato can beat. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll vote for Trump if he is the Republican nominee. Hell, I’d vote for Fetterman after he got his head hammered by Paul Pelosi’s boyfriend if he were the Republican nominee in 2024. The Republicans need to take back the presidency.

As for the OP, gun rights are in a good place. Constitutional Carry continues to expand the the recent US Supreme Court ruling in Bruen and Heller a few years ago expanded gun rights. Lots of people are buying guns and getting training in many communities.
Trump is toast. He fights hard but he has a big mouth. He did not focus on electable candidates in many of his races. Oz and Masters were not broadly appealing and many people are tired of amateurs with little experience in anything other than being a celeb. His negatives span the party divisions. A lot of other people were appalled by the Capitol Police not doing their job and the mob at the Capitol. Wrongly blamed mostly on Trump but shit sticks if you are too close when it splashes. And he did not commit this cycle - had he thrown in a few million dollars in a number of races like Thiel did, we might have won. Trump does not understand how to get elected and has not taken the time to understand his mistakes and learn from them. Trump is also in his late 70s.
There are other factors. The Supreme Court throwing out Roe v Wade (correctly) also energized single women. The structure of voting in some states ( mail in and drop box) also favors dems.
Desantis has all of Trumps positives and many of his own, and he is a very appealing person. With no negatives. And he does his job as an elected executive very very well.
If I had to pick someone to take lead us through the coming crisis with China and correct the cultural issues, I'd pick Desantis.

Trump bought us an extra 4 years to prepare for the coming shitstorm. Trump kept Hildabeast out of the oval office. They've thrown everything at him they could and nothing stuck. BUT it slowed down his progress enough to foil MAGA. 2 years of Russia BS, 2 impeachments which should have been ruled illegal due to false/trivial charges, etc etc. Every single person in the fed govt was against him, either openly or under cover-there's no way any other person would have made it as far as he did IMO. They finally nailed the presidential coffin shut with Covid, Fauci, Dominion and all the letter agencies, and the 2020 steal.
If we didn't take advantage of the 4 years he bought us by preparing for what we're seeing now, it's our own damn fault. Heretofore, there'll never be another legitimate election. Let me tell you what you need more than Trump. A winner! I personally and many others have nothing against him.
