Did Steiner just quietly build the MPO we have all been asking for? H6xi

Can anyone verify the FOV numbers? Steiner lists them as:
Field of View at 100 meters: 55' - 8.5'
But it's odd to list the width in feet with the distance in meters, so was this supposed to be at 100 yards and not 100 meters because if it actually is meters then converting to yards would yield FOV numbers of 50.3' at 2x and 7.8' at 12x which would be a pretty narrow 17.9° FOV??? But even at 8.5' we only improve to 19.5° which is still pretty narrow especially when the T6Xi series offers 24° FOV. Curious why Steiner would have neutered the FOV in the H6Xi series so much when T6Xi seems pretty forgiving?
@Birddog6424 can you help shed any light on the FOV numbers for the H6Xi 2-12x42, is FOV really only 8.5' at 100 meters @ 12x or is it 8.5' at 100 yards? The Steiner T6Xi 2.5-15x50 offers 8.5' at 100 yards at 15x, why would they reduce FOV so much in the H6Xi vs. the T6Xi?

Yeh, those number don't seem right.

I'll reach out and see if I can't clear it up..

For the optical system Steiner uses, it should be right around 9.2ft at 100 yards on 12x. That makes for an apparent FOV of right around 21degrees. Once I get my hands on it, I'll measure what it is exactly, but these numbers should be in the ballpark.

My guy in Greeley is pretty sure that's a typo. He didn't have to correct figures off the top of his head, but he said there shouldn't be much deviation from T6Xi figures.

I think Ilya's numbers on FOV are going to be closer to accurate.

Thank you Bird, I was hoping that might be the case, sure would be nice if we had official numbers. I am looking forward to the new Mil/Mil H6Xi so hopefully they can bring that to market soon...

Okay, time for a spring bump, since that’s what was referenced.

I still see no listings for an H6Xi 2-12 mil scope anywhere. Steiner’s website makes no acknowledgement that it will exist.

Here’s what is posted by Steiner every time someone asks about a mil version:

Did they not get the memo yet?

I agree. The T series reticle is too fine imo and it’s 9 more oz., with a larger objective. Great for comps, but I like a quicker reticle in a hunting scope.

George and Bushnell hit a great combo with their LRHS and LRHSi scopes.
Yeah i have the T6Xi 3-18 great optic. The 2.5-15 basically shouldn’t exist given its weight.

I just wish the 3-12 LRHS would’ve stuck around. Hate the form factor of the 4-18

ILya said he's seen the reticle and talked to them about it, they say it is coming, but that doesn't mean it won't take longer or someone else killed the project. @Birddog6424 I know you have secret contacts at Steiner, any news on this becoming reality anytime soon?

I'll go visit them in June.

I'll ask.

Model 8782

The videos say April-May….really want to read a review or see a video. I’m tempted to order the moa hunter reticle version…as this scope seems to be the exact glass I am looking for for my mini fix.

It’s between this and a March 1.5-15

Model 8782

I was going to say, “color me wrong” and place an order, but none of those a listings are actually in stock. It is encouraging that these companies have the listing, but apparently they haven’t started shipping yet.

Back in March, it was the same situation.

Has anyone done a comparison vs the ATACR 4-16x42. I’m tempted to wait on the H6 3-18x50 if the reticle is to my liking but don’t want to wait if the overall glass isn’t on par with the NF
I actually compared my T6Xi 3-18 to my friends ATACR 4-16. They’re very comparable. Nightforce handles CA a little better. I think you’d be hard pressed to really find a difference in resolution. Turrets are better on the nightforce by considerable margin IMO. Can’t really compare eyebox cause the T6Xi wasn’t mounted. But if you can save a little money with the T6Xi or H6Xi (considering they’re the same glass) I’d go with it.

I havent heard any updates on it.

I'll see what I can find out..

Edit; The mil/mil version is definitely still coming. My guy had no date yet, but he expects they'll set a date very soon. They may possibly have a release date for the NRA show next weekend in Texas, May 17th-19th

@Birddog6424 … do you have any details on the mil reticle designs they plan to put in the 3-18x50 version?

I havent heard specifics. I doubt they'll reinvent the wheel.

Burris/Steiner has the G2B, the SCR, and SCR2, the H591, and the Horus Tremor 3 & 5 in their wheelhouse. Steiner has a couple others in addition to that, though I doubt they'll use the MSR. So there's a few good ones to choose from.

All of those are quality reticles…no need to over invent the wheel.

I honestly wish I could get the hunter reticle, just in mils. IMO it’s a pretty good, simple utility reticle with some built in data.

Well you may be in luck. This is what is listed as the STR-MIL reticle. If that’s correct, it’s the same reticle as the MOA hunter model, but in mils.

That totally works for me.

I hope they offer a simple reticle more suited to hunting (G2B or SCR sized properly for the mag range). If the only reticle is the one below that would be a no-go for me. I thought this line is called the ‘hunter’ line so why put a tactical precision reticle in it (more suiting for the t6 line IMO) 😩

I have 0% faith the reticle will be easy to see on 2x.

My guess is they plucked it out of a higher magnification scope and won't change anything.
I agree that this is a ridiculous reticle for a 2-12x scope. The possible saving grace is that it looks like it still may retain the heavy pointed stadia that will act like a duplex at low power and light.

I guess it remains to be seen.

Although I agree that this reticle is overly busy. The MoA version of the scope has a very simple reticle. I don’t know how much you dial in hunting situation, but a dope card taped to the stock would simplify the mental math.

I think that it depends upon what terrain and game you’re hunting while using it.

So, my former T6Xi 1-6 had similar tapered duplex bars (KC-1 reticle) and it did well at 1x. Granted that reticle also had a nice circle in the center for quick reference as well. I’m hoping that the stadia lines will do well here as well. I do agree that this looks like they took an excellent 3-18 class reticle and shoved it into a 2-12.

I guess in July we’ll figure it out. I’m still hopeful, for now.

It ain’t over till it’s over, as it goes. We shall see.
Personally I’d much prefer the same hunter reticle as the MOA version, but in mils.

And while it is much too late for this version, I’d like to see the 2.0 mil hashes to be visually more noticeable on both sides and bottom. As a low power and light focal attractor.

Marry elements from March & Minox and it’d be ideal.

Tapered stadia (draws eye to center), only go 2-3 mil up on vertical stadia, carry thin part of stadia down 10mil on vertical and 5mil L/R, donut (but thinner and at 2mil radius), stadia thickness 1.0mil at fastest part so easy to see when zoomed out, could live with either 0.2 or 0.5mil markings.

Ahh…apologies for dreaming out loud 😝

So, it appears, that the answer to the OP’s question is “Yes, maybe, but no.”

I swear; any manufacturing rep assigned to a forum must be on 24 hr suicide watch.

Forum- “This is what we want. Why can’t you build what we want?”

Manufacturer- [Builds the thing down to the last specification.]

Forum- “That’s exactly what we said we want.”

Also forum- “Ain’t buying that…”
