Rifle Scopes H59: Does it suck or is it sweet?

Good Saturday morning y'all, I'm looking to buy a scope in the near future, most likely a Bushnell, (I can't swing a Gen2 ebr2c so count that one out) I would love to hear some feedback on an H59, it greatly intrigues me... I do have a little experience with the G2 reticle, call me crazy but I'm not totally stoked about it.. This would be my primary scope, shooting out to 1k and some local matches.. if a guy patiently/diligently learned this reticle how could it not work really sweet? I'm open to advice tho! Thanks

Depends. Everyone has their own opinions on reticles. I hate the hours reticles. But there are plenty of people here who love them. It's 100% personal preference.

The draw for Horus reticles is for holding over and off with the reticle and using the reticle to distinguish a .1 mil hold by bracketing the .2 mil hashes. There are other reticles made to do this like some of Athlon's reticles as well as a few other Co's.

I like the H59

If you don't see yourself holding over often then a simpler reticle might be better.

Take look at the TreMor3

I like it over the H59 because of a center dot if you dial your elevation for a long shot. I like the wind dots on the TreMor3. I also think the TreMor3 is easier to pick up holds with.

I've noticed that Horus removed all their instructional reticle videos except the tremor 3 video. What's up with that? They had one for the h59 that may have helped the op get a better idea of the reticle and what it has to offer.

The G2, XR 2, EBC-2, SKMR3 all blow anything Horus makes out of the water. Not to mention you have to pay more for a bunch of cluttered bullshit. The only one that is half way decent is the H-27 sitting in a CQBSS 1-8, and thats only because Leupold can't design a reticle worth a shit in house.

I spent a bunch of time studying reticles before finally deciding what I wanted/needed from a reticle. I knew I wanted more than the simple duplex I used for hunting but I really did not want to spend my time looking at a deranged pile of information or moving my cross hairs off my intended target to make a measurement. Along came a Bushnell with the G2 reticle and I knew I had found a home. Just enough information so I could figure my shot. If I decided not to dial elevation but rather hold, that info was there. Windage info was there and particularly useful if I had dialed elevation. Resolution is down under 1/2 a tenth if you can interpolate distance between dots. It is all I ever asked for.

I have 2 Bushnell HDMR H59s sitting on a couple AR-10's. They are a wonderful match because you can change ranges without a single movement or taking your eye off target, and I'm not shooting a gnat's ass off but just banging steel.

If you want to get precise and use adjustments the floating dot works well.

I'm using my TreMor 3 the same. I very seldom hold below 4 mils which has my 6 creed at 710 yards.

Have been using them since they came out. The newer ones with the small dot in the center are the best to get. I had a hard time adjusting to them for a few days going from a mildot scope but once it clicked on me i have not looked back. I have 4 h59 and a tremor3 and never dial them except in extreme wind. The tremor3 is a better option to start with since it has the wind dots.

i have taugh quite a few to use them and no one liked them at first, once they understood them they liked them and most of them bought one. There is a learning curve so if you don't want to invest some effort they may not be for you. I think they are worth the time to learn.

I've looked through an H59, and owned several different Christmas tree reticles like the Athlon APRS/APLR, Bushy G2/3, and Vortex EBR-2c. I personally don't care too much for the H59. It's got more stuff in it than I feel I'll ever need/use. And honestly, I barely, (if at all), use any of the Christmas tree reticles enough to justify having them.

When I first started out, I wanted the most complex, coolest looking reticle I could buy. Now however, I feel myself gravitating towards the cleaner looking reticles. I'm a big big fan of the Burris SCR reticle for example. As far as tree reticles go, I'm not a huge fan of the Bushy G2/3 either. I much prefer the EBR-2c, or Athlon APRS (NOT the APLR).

Can't say why, other than personal preference.

I've used Mil-Dot and variants, H58, and a few others. A simpler Christmas tree style is my favorite like a G2 or Vortex. Horous isn't anything special IMHo

The H59 kicks ass. It's my go-to LR reticle for general steel banging & match work.

I have a Bushnell ERS with an H59 on my 6.5 RPR. It's a good reticle if you like the Horus grid. It's not for everyone but the longer you use it you start to be able to just look through the grid.
