Help with 6 Creedmoor?

Wow! Benchrest comp, impressive.

Pull the tapes up on YouTube. I think you might find some good stuff to use there.

I've seen some of those guys shoot, thing is, my rifle is a Tacticool rifle and Im using a Bald Eagle Slingshot rest, no Co-axial rest for me, no benchrest follower, either til I get my next build back, Im always the last one to finish his or her 5 rounds, though when I shot my 308 last BR comp that has a benchrest tray and got my shots off pretty fast. 5.3", 3.1" for 4 of them.

Ive got FL and NS only "Custom" bushing dies from Hornady.

Im getting >.003" runout with Hornady seater die and Hybrids, just loaded up 30 AMP bullets and the worst I got was .0035" runout, some were almost 0.

JGorski,

do you think you could get a part number off the die set you have. I'm wondering if I have the same seater stem as you. The bergers sometimes stick it the seater and it leaves a little ring on the bullet.

Thanks,

-J

The only number Ive got on this die case is 8CD243DB, Ive got FL and a NS die, both bushing dies, the seater has a VLD seater plug, they cost 14 bucks. When I seat I turn the case 180 degrees before seating the bullet all the way.

I think the VLD seater plug may be the key. I'll try to get one and try it out.

Thanks!

I have the Custom Grade 2 Die Set that I got from GAP. Hornady Customer service says they ship with the AMAX Seater. I'm going to send them back to Hornady and let them try to figure it out.

Thanks,

So those arent bushing dies then I take it? Maybe thats where your runout is coming from. You're using Hornady brass, right? Their brass is very good, thickness from one side to the other is very close.

With the difficulty finding Berger Hybrid bullets has anyone switched over to Berger 105 VLD's? If so, what OAL or even jump are you finding works best? I'm interested to see if there is any consistency in "jump" between rifles that are chambered by the same Gunsmith, let's say GAP for example.

Thanks,

jfields, did you ever get the issue with your dies worked out?

Sorry, I just saw this. I have my dies back form Hornady. They gave me a couple different seating dies to play with, but I don't think it helps much. I'm seating at 2.815 OAL right now. I'm going to try seating them a little deeper and see if that makes a difference.

I just recieved my whidden dies for 6 creed. They appear very nice, on par or better than redding/Forster. I have not used them yet so I can't vouch for functionality yet. They came with a shoulder bump bushing for calipers also which was a nice bonus. Gap didnt have the hornady dies when I ordered my brass. My barrel and brass are not here yet but should be soon. Hopefully I'll be shooting 6 creed in about 2 wks. I still need to pick up bullets.
