First attempt at a homemade adapter.

Got these Leggings and Rock Bag from www.coletac.com in the mail yesterday. They are awesome! Extremely well made, very high quality. Couldn't be happier. As an FYI, you need to specify RT90C when ordering the leggings....their standard legging straps are a tad too short for the RT90C... nice molle on the leggings so you can attach your Kestrel or anything else. Rock bag uses high quality QD swivels to quickly attach or detach but you dont have to remove it. Folds up and goes right in the bag with the rock bag installed. I went with black camo pattern for both the leggings and rock bag.

Also I snagged an anvil plate from @midwestoffroad and the timing lined up where he was able to get that right out as well. Now just need the anvil-30 arrive!! Thanks again man.

I just purchased a RT90C on Amazon and had it 2 days later. It is an excellent tripod for the money. I put a Manfroto 322RC2 on top and a PIG saddle. There is a little wobble, but most of that is attributed to the 322RC2 and PIG saddle. I'm looking froward to taking it out this weekend to try it out.

Desmond DLOW-55 is good - Amazon has them for $169. I recently upgraded to the RRS Anvil-30, so I have one for sale.

My tripod just showed up along with my Midwest adapter plate I’m very happy with the fit and finish of both products. Midwest was excellent to purchase from and very fast shipping. Plate made it here before the tripod. Anvil 30 should show up tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all the info on this tripod setup

Simple fix for this condition.... Unscrew the handle from the base, you will see a snap ring that holds the round friction portion to the grip. Remove the snap ring (you won't need it). Separate the two pieces and insert a heavy duty O-ring, then reassemble. Now I have sufficient friction I can move the base without it being too difficult. It solved the either "loose or tight" problem with plenty of friction in between.

I made o conversion for the 322 to hold a rrs sc lr clamp centered over the ball. I can tell you that 90% of the wobble is in the rc2 clamp and tge fact its not strait over the ball. the 322 locks up pretty good

Yep its me i have a machine shop so i whipped the adapter out on a manual mill. Who is this?

I use a 52mm Desmond ball head and it handles a 23 pound rifle with ease the rt85 includes a 44mm ball head that would be a option to.

I have an RT80C that I use for both hunting and competition. I have a circular 64mm Sunwayfoto clamp attached to the levelling bowl and it holds my comp gun no worries which is around 20 lbs.
I did drill and tap the base for an extra screw for the clamp to prevent any rotation and it works well

I’ve never had an issue with the leveling base, but it doesn’t have the largest range of movement

Personally the lower center of gravity appeals to me having an additional ball head. Just ordered the tripod without a head, if it doesn’t work as I want maybe I’ll try the ballhead. Now I just need to find a clamp.

I bought a clamp off eBay and it’s been solid all season

That is the one that came as an option with the tripod when I purchased it. It is basic but works alright

I ordered the artcise since I found one of the open box models. Not specifically for shooting off I went with a leveling base that had pan for my spotting scope. I usually run just the flat plate adapter for the bowl, but I was trying to get it to point high enough to see Jupiter last night.

The 40 Mike is cool, but I’ve compared the RT90 and it side by side and I couldn’t see why there is such a price difference.

It's pretty intuitive once you have all the parts in one place, but pictures of how the RT90/Anvil-30/MidWestOffroad outfit works never hurts. I went the four bolt route and use the center hole for the weight hook that comes with the RT90.

You can use the included set screw and twist it tight . Or use the 4 bolts . Sometimes you get lucky and can use both.

The center hole can be used to remount the hook or using the set screw separate the 2 halves if needed.

It is much more stable with the bottom pivot vs the non pivot base. There is too much flex in the non-pivot base and the ball head. For the money I believe it is hard to beat. Note:I have never shot of any RRS tripods or ball heads.

It's as easy as turning this knob. Then you can pan and tilt till you are set then tighten the know. Again I have never used an Anvil but my tripod and ball head cost the same as just the Anvil.

You can have the tension to hold the rifle in any position but still able to move the rifle to other positions if nedded.

I needed a second setup for night hunting, so I ordered this combo. I’ll report back when I get it together. I’m currently using a PVA with a RRS leveling base that works fine, but is not worth what it costs. I’m thinking this will be in the same ballpark for much less.

Wow—100+ lb weight rating? How much does that tripod weigh?

Also—do you prefer that head setup over a ball head? I find a good ball head will easily hold a 20lb rifle securely at any angle with minimal torque required on the locking knob, but always open to new ways to do things.

I never looked at the weight. The rifle weighs over 25 pounds with the simrad attached, so that’s of little concern. I had a 52mm Ballhead before the leveling base and I did like the tension knob placement on that unit. However, the leveling base has a lower center of gravity and imo it’s more stable. I’m trying that Leofoto leveling base for the ergonomics. Sometimes getting a hand on the TA-3’s stem between the legs is a pain in the ass when you have cold weather gear on and you’re in a hurry.

I shoot with the guy who owns two vets and I’ll say the other tripods he’s selling are pretty dope, especially the new two piece with the lock adjustment on the top of the legs. The 40 mike mike is good, but it’s probably a rebranded RT90C or whatever the manufacture wants to call it that’s week.

Long story short I put these levers on one night and alas, they really work well. I've used them for all sorts of things; rifles (from 9# to 22#, 270 and 338LMAI), cameras, rangefinders, and even a table top. Here's a photo showing "too tight" on the left and "too loose" on the right. The arc is around 300* no need for a full revolution which makes them very fast and simple to operate.

Found the same deal for Cyber Monday. I am going to give it a try as well. I like the thought process behind the ergonomics. If it doesn't work out I will send it back and save my pennies for a RRS ball head.
