One does not have to act like a filth mouthed, ignint, foultempered asswipe, in order to take a stand. Both of the men below took stands without filth or vitrol (though I would guess behind the scenes, in the tavern late at night, behind a couple stout ales, that might change).

So the banner for the Bear Pit mentions religious content only. Should we expect political posts (including personal politics) to receive the same scrutiny as well? Does the banner need to include "refrain from religious and political posts"?

I love the political shit tho. Hashing out ideas against other members here was really helpful to me.

Don't be offended but the Bear Pit is gonna be more boring now. I guess I'll just focus on my WTF...

If we fuck up and cause one sponsor to not sign up for advertising, or quit advertising here, because they don't like the content of the posts here, we've taken money out of Franks pocket and away from his family. Frank sounded pretty pissed on the first page of this thread. If I had a bunch of retards taking money out of my pocket, I'd be pissed too.
I think I'm stating the obvious, but nobody else is saying it.

Shut down the Pit and Maggie's and the professional image will improve instantly. I get it. It would take a blind and deaf man not to see the direction SH LLC is going. It is going professional to the next level. The Pit and Maggie no longer fit not that there is anything wrong with that.

What is so hard to understand.
There is no problem with civil discourse, no matter the topic (with few exceptions).
It is the select few that are flaming assholes that do nothing but start flame wars with personal attacks and fomenting anarchy.

This. Instead of entire threads getting nuked, offending posts themselves can just be zapped with surgical precision and the offending participants get locked out or banned. Entire threads filled with information and really meaningful discourse have been taken out all because some asshat strolled in and defecated right on it.

The Pit and Maggie's makes this place a true community, and I hope to see them expanded, not closed down.

I think closing the Pit and Maggies would be a mistake. I have no doubt that there are plenty of SH members that basically reside in the Pit and offer no meaningful content to the professional side of the site.

There are those of us that do both and I have to say that the Pit is a large part of why I come here. As much as I love to learn about shooting and talk about shooting, there are not many places where we can discuss "current events" in a more or less rational way. For all of the hoopla, most topics in the Pit do not devolve into Monday's spectacle. I think the way it was handled on Monday was good. Get rid of the problem and lock the thread. Maybe even remove it entirely to prevent t nosey nellies from finding rants from fools on the site and using it against Frank at a later time.

Just my 2 cents

Before doing something radical like that, password protect the Pit and Maggie's. Don't get rid of them. I belong to another, more family friendly gun board. It has the same goal as this one, to educate and help people. It has a section where more freedom is allowed, but it's for members only and password protected. No one from the outside even knows it exists.

He does, but he only dropped it in "HINTs". I really never saw him help anyone, he just enjoyed taunting other folks who didn't have his experience or knowledge.

I guess so. I never had any contact with any of his versions that I recall. I just seem to remember him going out of his way to ridicule someone when it would have been a lot quicker to just answer their question

We got too big for Larry (Nobody)

A lot of us liked him a lot and didn't mind his style and manners, but he made it hard to run the site. He went on posting sprees and insulted so many we'd have 25 reports on him in the first hour of people who he mocked.

He is pretty typical of Alaska, to be honest, lots of dinosaurs up there with a ton of hunters who like to take them down. Some are harder fellas than others, but it's a common theme up there.


I would have let Larry stay but the backlash was too much

Yep, spent 4 years up there in early 80's on the bering fishin crab, you get tough quick. I then joined the army, I gained weght in basic and airborne school. Lol

He's got some pretty entertaining videos on YT for sure. He had his son tossing a Leupold around like a ball in one, and another where he sawed off the muzzle of a rifle with a hacksaw and didn't re-crown it as I recall. He definitely likes to poke fingers in the eyes of convention.
