$3800ish was the off the street dealer cost an associate received from Schmidt directly when he inquired ~year ago, granted he has little purchasing power. I would assume there’s tiers or something.

Yes it is, but for a lot of guys they don't know what they're missing so it's not that big of a deal especially since the majority of long range scopes are confined to 20° - 22°. Only in recent years have some mfr's ventured into wider angle eyepieces and even fewer in the alpha class category. TT actually went down with their new 7-35x56, ZCO's FOV numbers are not accurate (and inflated for the US) and only Kahles gets the patent pass since they are owned by Swaro. March has been venturing into the wide angle eyepiece space and now Vortex with their RG3 6-36 as well which I think is part of what many RG3 owners are recognizing - a very impressive image with wide FOV and great edge to edge sharpness.
I might have to give the g3 another chance. I admit I was very disappointed with the turrets and not patient enough to have Vortex address it.
It is worth a try, they really made them much nicer.
Same with the S5....I didn't see any Tunnelling....just a far narrower FOV..
Yep, they have tiers most likely just like TT.
Normal dealer pricing on a TT525P is like 4500 and then it goes lower depending on stocking dealer, and high volume.

(Only somewhat kidding. I have 2 TT 5-25s but purchased them used but like new off the PX for a substantial discount... I can't bring myself to pay new TT prices, especially 2024 TT prices.)
I miss 2016 Theta prices, but I wasn’t in a position to buy them then. The price of these Schmidts, at “blowout prices”, is somewhat comparable to Theta MSRP of that era though. With the cooling of the market there’s been quite a few used Thetas in the 3.6-4K range as well.

Pretty much why I've purchased three in less than a year: it's an amazing scope and for some reason undervalued at the moment.

yes. When the first 6-36 GR2ID DT II+ was sold, it cost over $5K. Then they were marked down a year later. Then after they got into more hands the FOV issue became apparent, they were marked down to the current price.
In Aus now the the S&B 6-36 MT has risen to around AUD $8.5K.
My first one i purchased on initial release was circa AUD $7K
A Tangent 5-25 is around AUD $9K and the new Tangent 7-35 is pushing AUD $11K!!!

Right, I watched that as well, not sure it’s blowout pricing vs what the market is willing given FOV gate, since 6-36 doesnt appear to be tied to mil contracts they have more wiggle room with price? The TR2ID should give some new life for sure, but patent could be over by the time TR2ID pops onto the scene. Question is, will Schmidt USA keep the same price once that happens, they have a history of over inflating their pricing.

Just checking around ZCO MSRP is up about 10% since launch (5 years?) for base model/locking turrets. Back in 2014 a Schmidt 5-25 was $3700ish, so looking at what Euro’s stocking now it seems like Schmidt is the best deal, costing less now than they did in 2024 when you account for inflation and currency devaluation.

ZCO has definitely gone up but TT even moreso. Another factor is how long the same design has been out, TT launched circa 2014 IIRC after they acquired Premier Reticles, yes they made slight tweaks to the optical formula but essentially the same designs as Premier had from around 2010??? (Older I get dates become more of a blur.). What TT really improved upon was the turrets, but again, essentially the same since 2014 launch. Needless to say the design has been around for more than a decade, so the price increases feel more pronounced - we are paying much more for a scope that has essentially gone unchanged for years. Love the Gen3 reticle but it took them years to figure that out after inheriting the Premier designed Gen2 XR. ZCO launched circa 2018 so it is newer and feels newer with 4-20 being a really compelling design.
It stops when enough people stop paying the inflated prices for whatever reason. Even though the Schmidt 6-36 is a brand new design I think the USA market wasn't willing to pay the initial prices which forced Schmidt to lower, of course, this is just speculation based on the information at hand, I doubt any mfr would ever confess to market forces

Nightforce is an anomaly, everyone knows their prices are inflated for what they are but because they have such a cult following people continue to pay it. To be fair, they have not raised their prices as aggressively as many other companies and that is likely due to their already hefty margins as you mention.Who cares what NF does

I think you're right, FDE was made popular through Dessert Storm and other middle eastern galivanting. Essentially colors that help the gear blend in more with surrounding environment. I actually like the blend of FDE with OD green. Special Ops has made it somewhat popular to spray your gear in different colors and patterns and the wear and tear ends up looking cool but also helps the gear disappear in the environment.
Now you mention it!! I think i may have an addiction to "Desert Digital" wrap....

I tested the S5 few years ago, it was tunneling heavily.
Have seen thru few S&B, and those are tunneling a lot, at low power, but that Zeiss S5 was like that all the way.
My friend looked thru the scope too, and could not belive his eyes, that it was S5 Zeiss, the 4500€ scope.
Also the turrets are weard, elevation turret had 10 torx and windage 8, like why 2 different size set screws on same scope.
Not sure was that some kind of early product model, but i was shocked.
I have had few different Zeiss hunting scopes, never had issues with those.
Would be nice to see the S3, is it better, and another S5, that was that one scope just a bad unit or what.

This is a sketch of the two reticles, taking a high-res copy of GR2iD as a starting place. This is just to depict the general approach of the two reticles. There will probably be better comparisons when we get high rest TR2iD images.
Ilya has said its a real reticle.
S&B reps at the British Shooting Show confirmed it was real and coming April/May 2024. One of them had an image on his phone.

Euro Optic is taking pre orders for the 6-36 with the TR2ID reticle. I just sent a NF down the road to another Hide member so now it’s time to decide SB 6-36 with the TR2ID ret or ZCO. My PMII’s glass (2021 model) is great, I preferred it over the NF 7-35 so much I never mounted the NF after looking through it. It sounds like people have good things to say about the 6-36.
The S&B 6-36 is a much better optic than either of the ZCO,s ...5-27 / 8-40 !!

Fuckkkkkk. I was planning on getting the 636 to replace my 735 ATACR so I can run the cam.
Seems like newer designs are using bigger eye pieces making them essentially incompatible with a TC. ZCO barely fits, new Kahles doesn’t, new S&B doesn’t fit.
