I've got a POF P415-16 and it runs great. This time around, I'm looking for something shorter and lighter while still using the 556.

In the last 2 months, I sorta...kinda... fell in love with the Noveske 7.5" 556. If I bought it, I doubt I'd ever run it with a can. Besides the louder noise, loss in velocity, and loss in range, what other cons am I missing?

Note: The biggest reason I want the 7.5" is because it's lighter.

Any reason why I shouldn't go for it?

Valid point, but that comes with the territory right?

How does it work anyhow? Say I buy it from Noveske and have them ship to my class III. Does the upper stay with the lower until approval?

The upper can be bougt by any one. I have several that I run on my AR pistol lower. If you poses a short upper, then you need to either have a registered lower or a pistol lower. If you have a regular rifle lower and no pistol but own a short upper, that could be constructive intent or whatever they call it. To answere your question. You should do your SBR paperwork now with a form 1. once you get the stamp, just call and buy the upper and they should ship it right to your front door.

I run the Diplomat on a custom build I just finished not too long ago. It's an absolutely fun rifle. I get TONS of looks and questions at the range, and lots of compliments.

Here's the build page:

The 7.5" barrel creates a significant amount of concussion at the muzzle. This is because there's lot of unspent powder exiting and igniting upon exiting the barrel. You NEED to have the Noveske KX3 installed. This blows all the blast forward, heavily reducing concussion. In low light, there are basically flaming fireworks coming out of the end of my barrel. It's not ideal in a low-light environment for operational use.
On the other side of the coin, the rifle is light, maneuverable, very easy to manipulate and control, and just plain cool.

Or you could lift weights until the weight of a 5.5# M 4 is not so tough for you. You know start out light and work up to say 3 pounds the first week and then 4...

Got to love the comedians...

Throw a can on the end of a POF and it isn't 5.5lb anymore.

So your telling me that if you had the option, you would carry a 16 over the 7.5 for CQB? Grow up. Every rifle has a unique application, hence the reason nearly every company manufactures SBRs.

I dont know many M4's period that weight 5.5 pounds. I have several AR's some SBRed some not. None of them are even close to 5.5 pounds. All are heavier.

rth1800 - you fail at internet sarcasm, and estimating the weight of a dressed and loaded rifle.

Thank you.

The upper is getting replaced in the near future with a VLTOR MUR w/ forward assist.

Re: Noveske 7.5" Diplomat 5.56

Sweet rifle - I have a Noveske 6.8 SPC Diplomat waiting at my Class 3 for me to do my Form 4 when I am home on leave...already have the accessories: Aimpoint T1 on LaRue mount, Tango Down stubby grip, Gear Sector E-series Surefire mount, Surefire E1B and V-TAC sling...can't wait.

I might just be an opinionated old bastard, so take this with a grain of salt.

Its my opinion that anything with less than a 10 inch barrel for a 5.56 is of limited utility at best. What you gain with the 7.5 is of far less worth than what you lose.

So that's why Barrett and Remington built new long guns. It wasn't per military request... It was clearly for sales.

The additions you have made to this thread are absolutely useless.

KY338 was right. You fail.

Re: Noveske 7.5" Diplomat 5.56

Mine was a lot of fun when I had it.

It depends. What do you want it for? I think a lot of us just blast away at paper, steel, or some other random target. For this type of use, it's hard to beat a Diplomat. Small, reliable, and mine was extremely accurate, even out to 200 yards.

Id have to partly agree with this. The .223/5.56 was meant to be most effective at a specific velocity

What are you shooting at? Paper or people?

Re: Noveske 7.5" Diplomat 5.56

7.5s have their place, we used them loaded with green tip when sitting in the passenger seat of civilian vehicles. it allows you to raise your gun and shoot out of your window even if you are right handed. And when shooting out of one car into another a 7.5 loaded with green tip is a far sight better then 9mm mp5s.
I wouldn't patrol with one but it is a tool. sometimes misused.
