Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Is there any slack in your SRS-A2 triggers? One of mine has a decent amount of take up before it hits the all. It’s not gritty at all, it’s just a but of slack. It did have horrendous creep before it broke. You could literally break the trigger in stages if you wanted to. I pulled the transfer bar and sear and had to sand the contact surfaces down as they looked bad by the naked eye. Apparently these were unfinished from the factory. My other SRS-A2 has a trigger shoe that doesn’t move until it breaks clean.
I grabbed a few A2 and M2 chassis out of the safes here and tried out the triggers. With the exception of one, all were like your other A2, where there was zero movement before the triggers broke nice and clean. The one that we had, which was different, had a very slight amount take up before breaking cleanly. It did not have the horrendous creep you experienced with one of your rifles.

These FDE ZCO’s and the FDE SRS A2 sure match up extremely well. Can’t wait to get some matching FDE one piece mounts to go with setups like this.

I just called DT and ordered a left hand SRSA1. I wish they would make the SRSM2 in left hand.

Anyone know where I can get a barrel extension for the SRSA1, left hand? I want my smith to spin a new barrel for it.

I believe we have a couple lefty barrel extensions and bolt assemblies in stock. We also have lefty chassis on hand as well.

SRS with 300Win Mag Barrel..... 225gr ELDM..

2500yds !!
3 shots to get on ( 3rd hit ) ........then 5 more shots...... 3 hits in total... :)
The misses were very very close........ ( vertical was excellent , bugger all variation.....just horizontal due to the small breeze. )

impressive! you running 2225 or 2217 in the WM?

Possibly looking for a new caliber. All depends on my bonus. If you guys are looking to unload a barrel that you’re not using. I’d be interested depending on round count. I bought a used barrel last year and having very good results for a barrel with 500 rds down the tube. So far I have a 308,300 mag and a 6.5 Saum. Hit me up.

Had an A2 covert with SAC .223 conversion a few yrs ago and traded it off….have regretted it since.

I just picked up another A2 covert chassis from a member here and am trying to decide between the factory 18” 6.5 creed barrel or the 18” CF 6.5 creed barrel in the photo above. There is ~700 difference in price and the CF is actually a bit heavier than the factory barrel. I’m wondering if that extra 700 be better spent on ammo.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of the CF vs the factory?

Application is mainly shooting steel out to 800 and hunt deer, hogs, varmints

DT makes great barrels. In all our years of selling them, we have only had two go back for not hitting their 1/2 inch guarantee. They shoot well.

We have found that the Proof Carbon barrels we put together on average shoot better than the factory barrels. Our 18" barrels used to be lighter than the 18" factory barrels. Once DT began fluting the 18" barrels and barrel shanks, the factory 18" barrels became about 4-5 ounces lighter from what I remember. Also keep in mind the shorter you go on barrels, the harder it is for carbon to make as much of a weight difference. Fluting the barrel shank, takes out about a half a pound of weight. If we started offering a fluted barrel shank, once again we'd be lighter than factory. This is something that we are looking at doing in the near future or having it as an option. DT barrels are a little more of a struggle to lighten up due to their large 1.250" barrel shank.

When designing the profile for the Desert Tech Proof Carbon barrels, my focus was not solely on weight reduction. I wanted a barrel that shot extremely well, held up to longer strings of fire (similar to a heavy bull barrel), but was slightly lighter than factory. The Proof carbon barrels have a significantly heavier profile than the factory barrels. The Proof Carbon barrels have what is similar to an MTU profile where the factory barrels are similar to a light Palma.

Factory DT barrel assemblies are $1350 for a non magnum caliber, $1550 for a Magnum, and $1700 for a .338 Magnum. With the Proof barrels, we don't charge more based on Caliber. They are $1950. We currently have 18" carbon barrels in 6.5 CM, 6.5 PRC, 308, 300 WM, 300 PRC, and 338 LM on the shelf ready to ship. We also have all factory options available as well.

Understanding the limitations of the rifle in competition, have any of you given PRS comps a decent crack using your SRS?
I shot some PRS matches a few years ago with my SRS.

It’s a great rifle system but it has some disadvantages. Mags are capped at 10 rounds. Support side shooting requires you to come off the rifle every shot. It will take a bit of work to make the rifle a 30 lb PRS rig.

The SRS has a big advantage shooting off hand, but offhand shooting is unfortunately not done near as much as it was years ago in PRS.

Thanks mate, I’m not expecting to do well, just want to give this a crack as I’ve never shot in these comps before.

I have run my SRS A2 with a 20 inch 6.5 Creedmoor barrel at the GAP grind, the Major Land Sniper Cup, and a handful of local club matches. At times I have shot poorly and at times I have shot well. When I shot poorly I can tell you, it wasn’t the rifle’s fault.

There are distinct advantages to the SRS in PRS competitions. Moving positions inside The Bus at the GAP Grind was so much easier for me than anyone else. In fact, most of my positional transitions are smoother and faster due to how much handier the SRS is. Also I found that for anything other than straight up prone shooting, I prefer the SRS and it’s ability to balance perfectly on barricades.

Get ready for lots of “where’s the rest of it?” and “it’s not the size but how you use it” jokes.

I ran a 36" .338LM Improved in my Covert for years ;)

These days that chassis is dedicated to 16.5 - 20 inch barrels, of which a 16.5" 6.5x47L is a really damned good setup, especially suppressed. My only headache is that even with a 5-25x Ultra Short on it, I struggle to fit even my shortest clip-on for night shooting.

The UNS-A3 is the only one that comes close (ClipNV-LR is a bit sketchy and PVS-27 is a no go), but it's really no good past 10x magnification.

Edit: serious First World Problems, I know.
Eotech makes a extendo rail. But ideally you use a Utc -/x/xii which is 1.3” centerline , with a 1.5” scope mount to make it closer

Hey, I said I would report back on my new DT SRS A2 barrel. For those of you not waiting for my every word let me expound. I got frustrated with ES tactical's wait time so I contacted a few guys chambering barrels. I finally landed on Bughole (Southern Precision Rifles). Russ and Greg were easy to deal with and had been wanting to get into DT barrels for a while. I provided the drawings, barrel extension, and extension wrench. We had a few conversations about DT barrel idiosyncrasies, and Greg was off and running.

I placed the order for my 300 PRC, 30", Bartlein, 8 twist, SS Heavy Varmint 3 barrel. SPR chambered, threaded, and crowned the barrel in about 4 months. Part of the delay occurred because they didn't have a barrel in stock with the proper contour (tendon diameter). I got the barrel a few weeks ago and finally pointed it at a target. The barrel came out well. Things I would change, the twist rate is not engraved on the barrel, the tendon end goes past the area where the barrel lock screw/mechanism engages, since it's not a straight contour might as well have the lock engage for that extra bit of safety. I did not know they had to order a fresh barrel, if I had I would have had them get a straight contour.

I'm a shoot one, clean one guy so I did that for 5 rounds, little or no copper after 3 rounds but I wanted to do at least 5. Since we are in JB's America I can't find any N570 or Retumbo so I went with a random 75gr H1000. I used Atip 230gr blems in virgin ADG brass, seated 0.020" of the lands Federal LR Mag primers seated -0.007" for around 2811 fps. Shots 6-10 to find an approximate zero at 100 yards are in the attached pic (not even close to load development). This barrel shoots. I'll add some more pics of the rifle and barrel in a future post.

I recommend Bugholes, fine work, great access to a range of barrels, and willing to share their experience as well as listen to their customers. Happy Holidays!

I was just informed of a last minute, year end DT special. 10% off SRS Chassis, SRS Conversion Kits, HTI Chassis and HTI Conversion kits through the end of the year. We have all variations in stock at our shop. Some of the hunting variation conversion kits (very light profiled barrels) are discounted significantly more than 10%. I'll throw in free shipping as well.

MDRX forward eject in .223 and/or .308 are 15% off. We have many variations in stock. If we don't have it, we can typically pick it up from DT in a day.

I'll also offer the same 10% deal on SRS rifles with our Proof Conversion Kits.

I wish there was more notice, but if you've been on the fence this is a great time to pick up a DT.

Shoot me a message with any questions.

Send me an Invoice for an HTI custom barrel kit and a 2nd HTI barrel extension.

Thanks
