Just thought I would show you what you could do with your 1911 and other pistol platforms... With up to 250 lumen (depending on bulb and head (turbo-head optional). The light output is tremendous.... You can almost imagine paint on walls blistering, drywall appearing transparent,etc,etc,. Just kidding. Just thought I would share the fun I have been having with this....SmokeRolls

It's not heavy at all... Yes its all machined aluminum from Surefire but I believe you all are man enough to carry it without crying......Just teasing.....It really isn't bad at all. It's the equivilant of having the three battery M-3 combat light with the turbo head on the 1911....just in a short compact package...Just pull the trigger and watch it dry up the eye balls of your enemy.I'll weigh it later and let you know what the weight is.....SmokeRolls

Anything too bright means HARD shadows and you had better hope not to get any reflective surfaces of you will be blind as well. Anyone seen a house without a lot of reflective surfaces?
You need enough light to make sure of your target and hit it. "Offensive" lighting is silly and shows a lack of thought and planning.

Light is light. Years of working with lighting, prototyping lights, testing and playing with them.
colour temperature and iris response IS important but not when you are at this level of lighting at close ranges. Too much light is bad

There is a trend to move to THE brightest light you can and it's a mistake in many cases. It's "stupid" which is why I said what I saw was stupid AND commented on this trend. A lot of people see this sort of thing and have no understanding why it's a bad idea. It's like making fun of someone doing something stupid, no harm in commenting on the fact what they are doing is a bad idea instead of just laughing at them

I evaluate and test every piece of gear that I have and use what makes sense. If I find something that should work better for the application, I get it and then put it thru it's paces. Yes, I do agree that the light pictured is way overkill.. But MYYY OOOHHH MYYYY It's fun to use.!!!.....

pat4668: The M117C light without the turbohead was $369.00. I think turbo heads can be had for about $125-$150 but I could be off or even way off on that $... I have never bought or priced just the turbohead from a Surefire dealer... I bought my M-3 combat with the turbohead already on it and then thru it on the M117C just for the photo shot.....SmokeRolls

Switchblade: Don't crack on him too much.. I care about performance above looks....I don't have to necessarily look like "The Unit" when I hunt Coyotes. There are no friends lookin at my weapon when I am in the dark at 0 dark 30. If it shatters the darkness at 400+ yards I'm game... The military has an overgrown version of the maglight, It's about 3" thick on the handle and about 14" overall and it's about 1,000-1,500 lumen and it looks as though it has a great reflector with awesome glass...... They sell for about $1,000-$1,500... I saw one at Knob Creek Machine gun show for about $900 used but in great shape in the box ...Heck I would mount that on my Coyote rifle for night time spotting... I'm really holding out for the "Hellfighter" hhahahaha....about $4,000 and 3,000-4,000 lumen...Mounts on any military vehicle weapon like tank mounted 50 BMG,etc,etc.... If it works use it. If something works better for the job at hand.....Step up.......SmokeRolls

Dude you should take that thing out in the day time, turn it on and put about 200rds through it really fast and see if it functions, and how hot it would be. I know my Surefire w/ the 225 lumen bulb gets pretty damn hot! I think it's rated @ 20min w/ the high output bulb.

If you're referring to my SBR with the maglite have no worries, its only a maglite on the outside. It started life as a 3C light, channels were machined in the body to accept standard 30mm rings, factory reflector and bulb assembly were tossed for a regulated Cree LED setup with glass lens and custom machined heat sinks. Its about a 400 lumen dethray now. Works great for coyotes runnin through the field at night and actually not too bright for going room to room in a house. It serves its purpose but is always removed when going to the range and if I'm out an about in the woods I'll often remove it and replace with something smaller like a TK11.

I don't know much about lights, but I'm surpised that thing is only up to 250 lumens. I can get 225 lumens out of my Fenix and it's a fraction of the size, and would actually look normal mounted to a large pistol.

As for your question, it's quite stupid. There is no one single light for every job, no single light that can fit the need. It looks to me that you lack real knowledge or understanding and have gone on the offence to cover this up. Whatever your issue is I hope you work it out soon.

DcN484 : It's not always the brighness that counts. The reflector/ shape and glass have alot to do with it's performance... Some lights are very bright but their light is only good for short distances. Some aren't as bright but can be used at greater distances due to how the light is focused and reflected.. I do not know about your light. All one could do is to use it in different scenarios and see which use it's best suited for. I can put the regular head back on this light and it would lower it's distance and or dispersion.
