ORIGIN Orders

I had to take off about 0.080" to get my TT special to feel ok.

I just pulled out my bolt, it looks like I took off .070" for my TT special. I used a hand file and just tried it ever now and then to feel for it riding on the sear. I debated taking off a little more but figured I'd wait till after i break it in; still need a scope.

So on my origin I had .220 total FP fall from bolt closed. And it was cocking about .046”. I used a dremel very carefully and matched the angle on the cocking piece until it felt super smooth closing the bolt. Now I have .188” FP fall. So I took off .032 effectively I measured my SR3 and I have EXACTLY the same fall .188” from cocked, bolt closed. I’m guessing it’ll be good to go since I haven’t had ANY issues with my SR3 and failed ignitions .. time will tell I guess. Now my origin feels just like my SR3. both have TT primary triggers. Maybe Ray will chime in !

Will the trigger timing that everyone is doing lighten the bolt opening or does it only have to do with the cock on close issue?

I just got my origin yesterday and assembled it with a 2 stage timney Calvin elite trigger and it seems like the bolt lift is pretty heavy. I measured it and I have about .030 worth of cock on close so I'll take care of that tonight, just wondering if it will affect bolt lift as well?

Timing only affects bolt close. Bolt lift on brand new actions will be a little stiff. Over some time, it will start to feel better.

Won’t affect the bolt lift Run the action a bunch and bolt lift will get a lot better. Mine was kinda heavy when new. But after not long it’s jist a hair heavier than my sr3

Thanks. That is what I was thinking because the lift didn't feel different before or after installing the trigger.

Don't take my comment as a negative, the fit and finish on these actions are great and it seems super smooth. I'm excited to get my barrel and run this thing.

Got mine back from SAC the other day. Hopefully i can shoot it after my next match. So far i am loving this Origin.

This is a 6.5 PRC that will (hopefully) be a muley slayer this fall.

So after running three PRS matches with the Origin, I cannot recommend it for 100% match duty. The action just binds too much when the bolt is fully open. It’s runs smooth and fast if you keep left, downward pressure on it but that’s not always possible under time and positions. I’ve never had a problem on the bench or prone. Anyone else seeing similar behavior?

The Origin will become a hunting rifle soon. It’s just not suited for match use but is great for a lot of other type of builds.

So I need to retract my own statement. It was made after poor performance at a match (100% my fault) and frustration.

The issue was with the feedlips on the magazine and not the action. Opening up the front did the trick.

So my build just finished at the smith, origin, bravo, TT diamond, hawkhill 25 creedmoor, zp5, arc rings.......I have 0.255 total firing pin fall and what feels like some heavy cock on close. The trigger feels excellent at 1# however I'd like to get rid the cock on close, some suggestions? I am comfortable shortening up the cocking piece, just would like to know by how much. Rifle has 30 rounds through it. View attachment 7089702
We suggest sending the action and trigger to us if you'd like it timed. We have a very simple in house fix that will be fit perfectly to your setup. We charge $50 and can have it turned the same day it arrives.

Thanks - Ray

Ray I do appreciate that offer. I might do that in a few weeks. Do you have a set recommended pin fall for the origin/TT diamond? Or is it unique to each action/trigger combo? Thanks!
The pin fall you've got is just on the high side of things. That's because you've got cock on close. When the cock on close is eliminated, you'll have a little less pin fall, but you'll have an extremely smooth bolt close. All in all, we think it's best to send it in for us to time it if you want to eliminate cock on close.

I sent in my Origin and they turned it around the same day. It runs fantastic now!

Rushed home after work and was able to get 12 shots off, these were last five. Put first 3 in .336. Couldn’t get good cheek weld as only had muffs instead of plugs. Safe for smokeless but strictly blackhorn 209 build.

Just received a 22” proof prefit chambered in 6.5 PRC using a .154” freebore reamer from nick at Straightjacket Armory. I bore sighted, put one on paper, chased it with turrets and shot 4 more. This was first group with factory 147 eldm ammo. Reamer was set up to jump .008-.012 if I remember correctly. Nick said he has been having outstanding results with the 147 factory stuff and this reamer. I’d say he ain’t lying.

Nick does do some fantastic work! That thing looks badass.

Will Bighorn time a barreled action, or do I need to remove the barrel for timing?
We'll do it however you want it, but it's going to save you on shipping costs to just send the action and trigger.

bolt and trigger. that is all
We actually need the entire action if you're not providing measurements. If you provide measurements to us, we can do it with just the firing pin assembly.

Neither. Polish them up.
Thank you! Forgive the ignorance, but would you recommend polishing with a dremel, or high grit sandpaper? And to what end?
Also, on the 10 rounder it doesnt let the last round fully chamber unless I apply slight pressure under the mag. It hangs up on the end of the feed lips. Maybe I’ll kill two birds with one stone?

Anyone else using their origin for a hunting rig? I'm looking to use Hawkins Hybrids along with the Origin, Proof CF Barrel, AG Composites Stock and VX6HD to keep things nice and light. My only issue is knowing which version to buy, and where to find them. I've seen one picture of an origin with Hawkins Hybrids, but I know standard Rem 700's won't work. The options are Rem 700, Stiller, or Lone Peak. Anyone have any insight?

Got my Origin back from my gunsmith. Pretty happy with the result. Light'ish weight 6 Creed hunting rifle.

Origin
Proof carbon 22" 1:8 6mm .120 freebore
HS Precision sendero take off stock
HS Precision DBM
Jewel trigger
Hawkins Hybrid 25MOA rings
Henderson Prec. MLOK rail and 3" dovetail plate
Ultra 7 (soon to be Ultra 5 DT)

I'd ask this guy

I asked him back in Feb, but he wasn't sure what model he purchased? Haven't heard anything since.

I've ordered from Red Hawk Rifles before and had good results. They carry them and show them in stock. Can't help you with your question about what height to go with though.
