ORIGIN Orders

Just got mine put together and broken in.
17.5” 1:8 twist carbonsix magnum contour chambered by Straightjacket Armory. It shot the factory 105 hornady black, 108 eld m and 87 gr vmax extremely well. Smallest groups were 1 hole and largest were just over 1/2 minute. 108 and 105 had exact same poi and shot inside the same group. 87 vmax printed .5” higher. Super happy with the build. Already have a magnum bolt face and Nick at Straightjacket is chambering me a 22” proof in 6.5 PRC. Can is still in jail...350 days...fml.

Nice rig. 6 creedmoor?

I made a quick video while testing out my cheap savage barrel. Some guys were wanting to see how the Origin ran and how smooth it looked. So if you can get past my rambling, well there you go!

As far as the results I had the POI shift on me down .3 mils so now I get to buy a new barrel. I did check to see if everything was ok with the gun when I saw splash 5ft low but I just hit the Tpost and it shot down.

Should I go with another 6.5 creed or give the .224 valk a go?

Also a side note, you know you've loaded the 11th round when you start making faces.. :ROFLMAO:

Nice!

You running the TT Special yet, or your old trigger? Also, how rough is that helical bolt knob?

Plan to have my build done soon, just waiting on barrel from Bugholes.

Yes, I have the TT special in and I'm very happy with it! I dont regret going with the special but I do think I could have done the same with a primary. I have it set between 1.5-2 lbs.

The bolt knob has the potential to chafe but my hands tend to be rough in the summer and it hasn't bothered me yet.

What barrel are you going with? I've looked a few times but I cant seem to find any gain twist barrels on bugholes, that may be the direction I head next but at this point it all seems like more waiting Haha.

Going Bartlein HP 6.5CM 7.5 TW. Bartlein will do the gain twist but wait times are 4+ months. You might try calling Bugholes, or any other place that holds an inventory, and inquire about gain twist. They may have something in stock and never hurts to ask.

Greg,(bugholes), will usually answer the phone 4:00PM Central Time or call you back shortly thereafter.

Regards,

TM6

Not true. A quality button barrel is just as accurate as a cut rifled barrel. They just dont last as long. A cut rifle barrel lasts longer before it craps out in my experience with button vs cut and Ive tested quite a few...

The word BUTTON is not a accurate way to compare. There are various different types of button barrels out there and each company has there own process, some better than others. Stress relieved, lapped, 4140, 416SS, .etc..

Here's how my Green Mountain BUTTON shoots with single digit SD's.

Funny how opinion diverge. I'd say the opposite as all my bad(if we listen to forum folks) "button" barrel have outlast any of my cut rifling barrels...

Guess that we should simply understand that I mean shit and that any high quality barrel will outshoot you anyway..

Well I just ordered a origin with a 308 bolt face and an additional 223 bolt face. Now to see how long it will take. I'm looking at getting keystone 6mm creedmoor and a 223 button rifled barrels. Undecided on the stock/ chassis so far.

Any stocks or chassis that are known to not work with the origin action? And what triggers seem to work the best without major timing issues? Seems like all the usual ones (timney, trigger tech, ect.) have had some sort of issue when I go back and read this thread. Wondering if there have been any updates and any thing seems to work well out of the box now?

just send the trigger you want to use to bighorn now and have them time it.

Pretty much every 700 chassis will fit with no problem. The ejection port is slightly larger so stocks will have a little extra hanging over there. I'm still undecided but the KRG bravo has done a great job filling in while I decide. I checked out Brian Whalens ACC and I'm kinda leaning that way but I've got to get my barrel situation figured out first.

Triggers are case by case.

Zero issues with TT Diamond and Jewell on my Origin

So after running three PRS matches with the Origin, I cannot recommend it for 100% match duty. The action just binds too much when the bolt is fully open. It’s runs smooth and fast if you keep left, downward pressure on it but that’s not always possible under time and positions. I’ve never had a problem on the bench or prone. Anyone else seeing similar behavior?

The Origin will become an hunting rifle soon. It’s just not suited for match use but is great for a lot of other type of builds.

I’m curious what you are going to run instead?

I’m leaning heavily toward the Curtis Axiom or Vector. Everyone I have handled or shot felt great. Probably the fastest bolt out there. It will bind but I had to find the special spot vs actively putting pressure on the bolt so the Origin so it wouldn’t bind. The Axiom is now standard on all of MPA’s builds and the actions are getting a lot of prefit love like the BigHorns.

10-4. I’m a fan of Curtis actions as well. Hopefully they treat you well though!

I dont know what your doing to your bolt but I have over 1000rds through mine and the bolt hasnt had a single issue binding.

It might just be how I run the bolt but it was very noticeable at the last club match. Will also try adjusting the magazine depth.

I’m got giving up on it. Just my impression so far.

Big Horn Origin
Kreiger barrel 20” 308 spun up by Keystone Accuracy
Area 419 hellfire brake
Trigger tech primary trigger
Krg bravo for now but waiting on my Manners from the group buy.
Thing just hammers. Shot a .33 group at 600 with it and I’ve got less than 50 rounds through it.

I finally built mine from the pre order..

Running three Xcaliber pre fits.
21" 224 valkryie 7 twist
19" 6.5 creedmoor 7 twist
17" 308win 8 twist
Bighorn 12pt barrel nut
Area 419 2P brake
TT Diamond flat
KRG W3 folder

Fedex lost my 6.5 creed barrel but I have the 224 valk barrel to shoot this weekend and a couple cases of 75gr AE which is all I plan to shoot out of the valk. So far they feed okay out of unmodified AI psr contract mags. Might change the bolt knob to get a little more room away from my scope but content otherwise.

Now all you need is a SA magnum caliber! I'm considering a similar barrel set up but a light weight hunting barrel in 7mm saum. Awesome gun, thanks for sharing!

Thanks! The Valkryie and Creedmoor barrels are standard palma contours and the 17" 308 is a light palma. I did consider adding a SA mag but already have a 6.5 Saum that hardly gets shot and don't hunt anything my other 6.5 creedmoor can't handle. Maybe later on I'll reconsider.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but is there any timing needed with a TT Special trigger or is it attach and go?

I had to take off about 0.080" to get my TT special to feel ok. I think it was my action and not the trigger though. I had previously tried a trigger off a bergara and it felt the exact same (which was hardly functional) anyway it does feel much better now but my bergara is still smoother. It runs well and if I'm not being nitpicky then I'd say it's fine.
