Powder IN-STOCK thread

Yep! Still have it and still grabbing brass and projectiles for it when I can as well lol. I’ve heard the N133 should be a decent fit for it, which is part of why I picked up the N133 in the first place. But I’ll probably shoot .223 at a 5:1 ratio compared to the 6.5G for a few different reasons. But it’s not going anywhere.

But no, life’s been a shitshow for us for the past ~9 months or so, and we just moved as part of that so I’ve been acquiring when the deal’s too good to pass up but haven’t been in a position to load anything as of yet. Hoping to be soon, but a big part of the craziness has been my wife’s health so that takes top priority.

Extruded.

The numbering system is nice too, without nonsensical names:

1xx series are single base
5xx series are double base

Powder speed is determined by xx with higher numbers tending to be larger/slower kernels.

Example, N140 is a lower heat powder good for heavy .223, while N150 is a tad slower and better suited to .308WIN. N540 is a double base version of N140, so you get more velocity in similar cartridges. N160 and N550 & N555 are popular in 6.5mm cartridges. N560, N565, N568, and N570 are popular magnum powders (N170 can be hard to find, but will give you better barrel life at the cost of velocity).

Now back on topic. Are the VV powders you have extruded or ball? I've tried searching it up but only get the typical BS descriptions manufactures normally give for their powders. That it is the best, so and so, blah blah blah.

Believe it or not but the powder pics on Vihtavuori's website on each powder page are pictures of that specific powder-- so you can get a very good idea of kernel size and shape.

Vihtavuori is good stuff, I've been using N133 for 40-55gr bullets in 223s for many years now, 3N38 for my uspsa open blaster, N320 in my uspsa limited gun, and N120 in my .20 Vartarg. All have been very consistent and very clean burning.

I haven't tried any of the N5XX series yet but will probably give them a whirl when I burn through my current stash of AR Comp & RL16. While I love those 2 powders, Alliant powers are ridiculously priced right now, and furthermore all Alliant consumer canister powders are going to be unavailable for the near future according to what Powder Valley was told by Vista; apparently all outstanding dealer orders with Vista for Alliant have been cancelled with no ETA for when they can be placed again.

They say in stock when it lists them all, but click on one and then choose your jug size and tell me what it says. They have BL-C(2) and 2520 like powders, but I can’t add either…

And unless they’re only getting 1-2 jugs in stock at a time, there’s no way they sell out THAT fast, THAT often, especially for “older” powders, is there??

Their site is not the greatest as far as programming goes. It seems to me like, in instances where they have multiple sizes in their catalog, their system doesn't correctly flag the base product as "out of stock" even if all available bottle/jug sizes are out of stock... So you see it as in stock but then you drill down to the specific quantity and you experience what you're describing.

It seems like you're already using the in-stock filter, but I just keep these pages bookmarked in a folder and I open the whole folder in new tabs when I want to browse their site. Trying to look through the entire catalog is exhausting, because even if you go to a specific category, when you click the 'in stock' filter, it just shows everything that's in stock from every category anyway. Plus, when they do their daily listings, anything I'm ever looking for usually only lasts a few minutes before going out of stock and this way is much faster than trying to browse it all one page at a time while it's being hammered.

It's funny you just posted that cause I was thinking the same damn thing. For about a year every time someone posted a link here or I got a notification I'd go to there site hoping for 2520 & nada.

Just about 15minutes ago for the first time ever I happened to catch their notification email just after it came in. The MP 495 (2520) had 21 jugs instock. I minute after I checked out gone. I was checked out 4 minutes after receiving the email.

So yet they don't get a ton at a time & yes they sell out fast. At least I know it's not a fairy tail now.

Haha, yeah it goes quickly. Just so everyone here knows--they don't necessarily list each item moments before the e-mail blast goes out. The e-mail just goes out once they've listed their final items for the day (or so it seems). I have had several instances where I checked the site at noon and found a ton of good stuff and then they sent out the e-mail out a couple of hours later. So if you're actively looking for specific things that they carry, it's beneficial to check the site several times a day.

They truly are great to work with, and their item descriptions are always either spot on or erring on the side of caution. I hope they are around for a long time.

Typically this stuff drops in waves, so you can get lucky.

A heads up as to Alliant pricing . In July of 2023 this was typical pricing with wide open availability on 8 lb. units . I searched multiple forums and averaged up prices across the board . Alliant $239.00 to $315.00 depending on who's selling it and sales and such . Fyi ; Hodgdon was $210.00 -250.00 same parameters .

June 2024 pricing has risen to ( amended to $336.00 ) $400.00 -536.00 . So Apparently once Vista increased it's cost Dramatically ,available stock magically flew out the warehouse man's ass !. Shortage My ASS ,just another marketing ploy by the multi conglomerate monopoly
