Price Check in the Gas and Diesel Aisle...

I’m old enough to remember the Arab oil embargo of 73. I was 17 and drove a 1957 VW. If your tag ended in an odd number, you could buy gas on an odd day. $10.00 limit in Virginia. I recall gasoline was over $1.00 a gallon.
Also goofy double daylight savings time and the introduction of the 55mph speed limit, I think.
If you can remember the 1970’s you probably weren’t there.

I think the Dems are looking at Canada gas prices. If the US knows that Canadians are willing to pay 2.20 a liter (8.40ish us gallon); they'll push the price up here. I fully expect to see 10.00 a gallon.

You mean real money?

My opinions on precious metals: If shit is sideways, and we’re in TSHTF wet dream, then I’d sell you half a bowl of cooked beans for 10 ounces of gold…maybe.

I don't think Gold gets that kind of respect. What can you do with gold when there isn't any society to speak of? What's farmers going to do with Gold? What's the middle man going to do with Gold when they can't find food. Guns and ammo will be worth 100 times what Gold will be traded for. People with any product that can be sold will need to protect their products. Can't do too much protecting with a 1oz AGE.

Tank fest.

Completely unrelated to this hypothetical easing of semiconductor supply constraints:

Two things are true about any sufficiently-interesting economic condition, good or bad:

1) It doesn't last forever
2) The pendulum always swings back further than expected in the opposite direction

The shortage of semiconductors in the auto industry actually is bad, but it probably looks worse than it actually is due to a short-term spike demand (which we'll fix with higher loan rates and gas prices), double- and triple-orders of chips from electronics assembly houses, and the relatively poor ability of the IC industry to predict lead times (as I was schooled in recently, a lead time of "52 weeks" or "99 weeks" doesn't mean anything more than "I don't know").

I'm not predicting wreckage in the auto industry like 2008-'10, but there may be a lean year or two at the same time that big investments are planned in electrification.

Gold is a great way to move wealth from one stable society, through a bad or chaotic time, into the next stable society.
During the Chaos or bad times, actual goods and food and medicine will be much more valuable.

I don't know why but regular gas went down 10 cents overnight.

No such luck with diesel - I just paid $5.89.

I did manage to score 8 gallons of 5W40 Rotella T6 when returning some brake caliper cores. The counter guy said it just came in today and normally sells the moment it hits the shelf. Now I can do the next two oil changes on my van, so I should be good through the end of this calendar year. Probably time to start shopping for more...

Decided to fill up the Trail Boss this evening, I need to pick up some overpriced plywood. The 6.2 needs 93 octane. 5.79/gal. I’m not going to lie, I’m starting to feel a little anxiety about my 65 mile one way commute to work. My portfolio is -72%, and I sure AF don’t have the “average” 75K in the bank right now. Bills are paid and there’s food in the fridge, but something has got to give. FJB.

I'm out of work due to refusing shot mandate.

My new job has been delayed twice so I'm going on a month of delay now after being out of work for a good while.

I have stopped driving pretty much all together just due to the cost of it.

When I start working I'll start driving again. Until then I can stack a lot of firewood.

I drove passed the gas station I use, and 87 octane is $4.25.9. I was in such shock, since last week I believe that same gallon of gas was $3.99.9. A 26 cent increase in less than 5 days.

What's the prices everyone else is seeing? BTW, this is in Maryland. And no this had nothing to do with a tax exemption, gas was $3.69.9 during that time frame.

Diesel is $7.57 in NorCal. I’m glad I just bought an ecodiesel.

Okay now they need to stop this.

I drove past a gas station with one of those electronic signs for their gas prices. They now have 2 prices. Four cents more for regular gas if you pay by credit/debit card.

It's only this single gas station, but I bet the others will follow soon. Anyone one else have this going on in their area?

You're already paying the extra amount at every other gas station, regardless of your payment method. Would you simply prefer to remain oblivious to this fact?

That 75K average in the bank.. 'study or poll' included 401k's.. do a quick search, and you'll find the average in the bank in savings is less than 1,000 dollars.

That’s really common here all the time. Especially the truck stops off the interstates. The signs flash 2-3 different prices you have to pay attention as you’re driving.

I’m aware. My comment was mostly cynical in that regard. I hate what this administration is doing to this country, just like most everyone here. My retirement fund is only down 20% YTD, so yay, I guess. FJB

I suppose I only have myself to blame for not being more prepared for times like this, instead of having a garage full of gas guzzlers.

Let me guess, you work for one of the credit card companies and don't like the serfs finding out that the credit card companies have instituted a DeFacto 3% national sales tax on everything the serfs buy.

I say good for those who like to show you what things actually cost and how all the middlemen and government agencies are jacking you.

I'll bet if folks actually had the itemized bill on their gas receipts showing how much the federal and local governments and credit card companies were making off their gas prices, the sheep wouldn't be quite so quick to blame the "bad oil companies".

That’s nothing new around here. We’ve have a gas station advertise cash price for quite some time, use a card and bingo, it’s 3% more. Same with a gun shop, ALL PRICES ARE CASH they will conveniently add 3% at check out for a card. Really need to get back to cash but the govt doesn’t like it.

Nope, I've been retired for 7 years now and worked in the transportation arena for 34 years.

Currently $4.41/gal for Regular in NW Alabama. We just got back from a week in Gulf Shores where it was $4.52/gal for Regular. However, more than a few stations near the coast were totally OUT of gas this past Sunday.
