Obviously most of us in this thread are from the area around the sound...from Olympia to anacortes. With a couple of rare exceptions, most of the shooting over 600 yards require a 3 hour drive east. There are a number of good spots outside of ellensburg, and between this, and the other Washington thread, you will find 99.5% of the matches around here.
There are monthly practical rifle matches on the third Saturday of the month at upper in squally sportsman's club outside eatonville, wa ( about 45 minutes east southeast of Tacoma. The matches there go out to 545 yards and are great practice using field positions and other positions and scenarios that few of us use (but we all should) during our range practice sessions.
Match fee is $20, and start at 10am. All first time shooters have to attend a mandatory one time orientation, and safety briefing that starts at 08:30am on match day. Lots of fun, relaxed atmosphere, and great practice for bolt gun, or semi auto. Match winner seldom has much to do with wether you shoot a bolt gun or semi auto, although they do shoot in different classes.
If you want to get onto the groups mailing list, send a short email letting them know you would like to be added to the mailing list to [email protected]. Then you will get course descriptions,a d all the other relevant info.
And above all WELCOME to both you and josh!!
