So is this atypical performance for RRA or do they mostly shoot pretty well? Seems this may be the "one off" that has performance above most other RRA. I'm not saying they shoot bad as I have no experience. I'm saying this thing shoots GREAT! I would think if the vast majority shot even near this well, custom AR's and barrels would suffer. Any comments. (PS - if anyone feels this is a bit off topic I can start a new thread)

I can't speak for certain brand in general - but this is what I would call a "money maker" rifle; shooting like this you can win serious benchrest competitions (and apparently it has done so).

Thanks for the try again. The stock RRA's are amazingly accurate, but I own over 15 and none of em shoot like this one John barreled, and tuned for me. If I could have closed that 1/2" group, my AVG would come way down, but I'm a Ghog Whacker, and Varmint hunter, and don't have much time between Steel Banging, Matches, hunting, and working 10hrs 5-6days a week. I gave it my best, and even shot at 101yds, (Stock) Muzzle #100yds shot w/ ARC 1600 Bushnell Bino LRF. Good Shootin Elfster. Can't wait till these cam systems are up and going, we can watch each other the whole 30rds. I've won many, many BR Comps with this gun at 100/300yds, and if you can AGG a .34", with a factory stick... Sign up, I still have NF scopes that I won, as well as several stocks. Good shootin with ya guys.

AMEN! I bought this gun about 8-10yrs ago from my FFL (Prices Creek Store) and had to set up an acct for him, because he wasn't an RRA seller. My expectations were like the 1st Bushy I bought when I was 20yo, and put a cheapo scope & shot factory ammo. When it shot two 10rd groups in the .7" range, I swapped scopes, triggers, (Geissele DMR) and lots more, and it was a solid 1/2 moa gun. After testing some Noveske products for a Magazine Co. and talking to John, we became good friends, and he tuned it up. I never have told anyone how it shoots, just invite them down, and let em shoot, and their jaw's drop. I've got a 14yo son that has printed better groups than this, and just won his 1st few trophy's with this stick. I've still got 7 RRA's in the box, that have yet to be shot. In my book, for hunting, target, RRA is the AR to buy.

It's a Wilson 416 barrel, that John said he "tweaked" the gas port, faced off the upper rec., and done some polishing to the chamber....? I don't exactly what he did, and when I asked what he did he said " I tuned it up a bit, lmk how it shoots."

For you c4xplsv, The exact load is above, but it doesn't seem to make much difference what cases I use, but from 24.5gn (slow side) to 26.5gn of H4895 loaded to 2.250" shoots the 50 and 60gn Vmax super well. It also shoots 36g Varmint Grenades very good with BLC-2. I don't shoot heavies with this gun as much as my Krieger barreled 22" .223 and it shoots the 75gn, and 77gn very well. This particular gun has never shot 69 SMK's consistently. I'll get a .3" and then a .8" 5 shot group. I have always used CCI BR4's in my target guns. The gun shoots this good using a Bob Sled, and loading the 77's way out and single feeding, but what's the point? The ghog, or coyote doesn't care whether it's a 60gn or a 77. Recoil is non existent in this gun. I also have a CMT with 7.7 tw and JP RE Brake, and 18" that shoots bugholes. I'm trying to get a cpl of my 6.8's in this contest, as a cpl of them shoot way below .5" with factory ammo, but haven't got a pet load for punching paper, only shooting whitetail.

Sorry to mention, it's not the same barrel that came on the gun, it's a newer cryo barrel from RRA. The barrel that came on it went into a home build, and it's an all day .5 min gun.

Hate to say this but you all have targets that look like you been to the shotgun range!

I should have saved the target from last fall when I was challenged by a friend to prove that I could shoot.

After mounting an Art IV Springfield scope on a new CZ-550 308 cal rifle and using my friends Lapua 168 gr BT HP 44gr Varget ammo I shot three rounds in the same hole at 100 yards.

After the second shot was fired Bill thought I missed as I told him it went through the same hole he drove his ATV to the target to see that there was a very slight 1/16 of an inch are to the 2 o'clock and after the third he did the same drive to find a 1/16 of an inch to the 8 o'clock.

It was just dumb luck that the load matched the rifle perfectly.

LOL, seriously?

Take the challenge and post your results or simply STFU!

Jealous ?

Serious !

I share more with you at a later time, but for now if you are smart you may want to be a little kinder to your elders...

I would like to exchange info with a guy called cooker...I looked at his reports and think he may be a damn good shooter.

Hey Rick, lighten up fella, I was just having some fun...

If you would like to know who I am you may find my life story on YouTube.

My old friends look like a list from the book of "Who's Who!

As one of the top shooters in the country we always poked fun at each other.

Play nice and I'll give you information that many have paid much to hear.

I read the book in you box way back in the nineties and would like to suggest a few more books...

The gray nineties now known as the patriot and also Matt Bracken's book called Enemies Foreign and Domestic, and also a close friend the has passed away Carlos Hathcock's book called Marine Sniper.

Just started reading another set of books called "299 Days".

Hope you can forgive my strange humor and allow me to exchange information on how to be able to sell you used targets as they should have just one hole in the center.

Hello Gunny!

Have you every been to the Stoney point MTU?

Met some nice folks there at the sniper school...

Got a very good friend that was the top Marine shooter in the mid 80's that they made him a "Yankee White " guard for Reagan.

still waiting for Army to beat Navy some day :-(

Got a real question for the forum about how you guys measure MOA spread...

Do you go from center to center of the hole or inside edge or outside edge?

My competition days we mostly shot on an indoor range using .22 cal rifle and pistol.

Out doors we shot the M-14 NM grade weapons at 800 meters.

I see if the friend had kept the target with one hole and post it here.

I been testing loads for my new 6.5x47 Lapua

rifle is
Stiller Tac 30 action Jewell trigger
Bartlien barrel 8 twist 28.25 inches long heavy varmint
AICS 1.5 chassis spigot mount Atlas bipod
20 taper Stiller base Burris Sig Zee rings
Leupold 40x45 Comp scope

Lapua brass
CCI 450 primers
42 grs H4350
130 Bergers
loads were tested .015 jammed and backed out .005 and shot 5 rounds at each seating depth,

I hate to waste 30 more rounds but believe it would average under .400 with all 30 rounds loaded at 2.870 OAL,,but if it would just average the worst 5 on this target would be good enough for my use,,

shot off a bench and rear bag with the Atlas bipod 102 yards ..I didnt get pic of rifle on bench but was shot just like it is in this pic but was on a bench,,will change picture tomorrow if it is a must have,,

ok this is fun,,I have 30 pieces of brass weight sorted and gonna try and pick the 30 best 130 Berger VLD bullets I have and load up 30 rounds the best I can,,,hopefully this w/e I can get some good conditions and see how my new rifle will really shoot 30 rounds,,

I have a CZ 527 V 9 twist 223 that shoots really well for a factory rifle also that I might try,,

Yea I have the tools to change I also sent and email to Moon for a 6.5 clambering quote ..good to know you dont have an issue. Some Ai shooters get blown primers in the 6.5 flavor.

I dont meet the requirements for the list, as I actually wasnt out to shoot groups (and didnt plan accordingly with pics!). Was just doing some velocity testing with different projectile/powder combos, and this is what I ended up with. Not my best 6 groups ever, but an average of .513 over 10 groups was a decent enough result for just plinking away with a magnetospeed hanging off the end! Was shooting at 100m (109yards), so OnTarget reflects that.

Bench/bipod/bag.
Rifle: Longrifles Inc 7-08 22"
Average: .513moa
Best: .192moa
Worst: .804moa

If you still the have the target you can follow the rules and submit it ;) (basically date and name it, put a quarter for reference and take another picture; post a picture of your rifle as well).

Another day at the range with my DTA. Found out it really likes the 140 gr A-Max.

Load was 46.4 gr H-4831, 140 gr A-Max (.015 off the lands), Lapua brass, CCI 200 primer. Average velocity was 2768 fps and SD was 7.
