My Ruger shoots as good as any brand rifle and I have to say boron nitride bullets work without a doubt faster speeds less flyers tighter groups !Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion thread
I shot my first 600 yard bench-rest match today. I’m happy to report that I managed to get the highest score, and “closest to bullseye”. At 603 yards, my RPR maintained a 5.481” grouping on two targets. I was using factory Hornady “match” 108 ELD. These guns can shoot, when we do our part.
I had a feeding problem with my 6.5 PRC, but it had nothing to do with mag or the cartridge. There was something about the bolt where it just hang up when it got close to locking the bolt down. It was bad enough that I sent the gun back to Ruger and they sent me a replacement gun . . . which was better, but the bolt still doesn't close as nicely as my .308 RPR 2nd Gen. There quite a difference in the bolt design. So, you might want to call Ruger and describe your problems and see if they can help you. They might want to replace your gun like they did mine, which might take a couple of months, since they'll first send you a postage free box that you can then put your gun into to send it off.Hello all I recently purchased my first RPR in 338 Lapua Magnum.
Has anyone had issues with the Accurate mags not feeling properly? I ended up folding down the back spine of the mag slightly so the rounds dont sit flush against the back. It seems that if it sits flush against the back the bolt can't pickup the round.
The bolt also seems to be terrible, very rigid. Any recommendations on bolt replacements?
I had the same problem and it was the extractor stuck in a position which did not allow the bolt to lock down.I had a feeding problem with my 6.5 PRC, but it had nothing to do with mag or the cartridge. I had determined that the extractor was the problem and tried taking it out and polish it and fooling with it to get it to slide over the case rim easily. Nothing worked. That's when I had enough and called Ruger. When I got the new gun, it still had a bit of that issue where I needed to close the bolt aggressively to get the cartridge locked in. It's been improving now that I've fired 700+ rounds. But it's still nowhere close to being nice like my .308 RPR was when it was new. Something in the new bolt design for the magnum bolts just don't work as well. I've read in other posting where other's have had the same issue.I had the same problem and it was the extractor stuck in a position which did not allow the bolt to lock down.
What ammo were u shooting to get sub half MOA?Well 1300 rounds down the factory barrel. The throat has grown to a point where I can't load in a mag and still be .020 off of the lands. The rifle still shoots sub-half moa though so I'm still staying with the factory 6.5CM barrel. How much life should I expect from this barrel....2,000, 2,500.... what say ye?
They are the same length but different in the cutouts on the bolt body and have different cocking pieces. The 223 bolt will go into the 6.5 Creedmoor receiver but not vice versa. However, I did not measure anything. 6.5 is Gen 3 and 223 is Gen 2? maybe since it has a muzzle brake?Other than the bolt face, what are the dimensional differences between a 308 bolt and a 223 bolt? Length? Bolt body? Lugs?
Is it a 223 or 556? I thought Ruger stated it was a 556.I just picked up a rpr in 223 and I was wondering if there is good aftermarket support for them. I know ruger discontinued them a while back. What mag do most of you run?
They took them off their site a while back. I emailed them and got this:When is the Trigger Tech trigger going to be released……waiting forever, it seems.
Most precision rifle in .22 are chambered for 223 REM. RPR is the only one I know that is chambered in 556 which is why I asked that question.223 and 5.56 is basically the same thing. Just a different jump to the lands. Which is basically for higher pressure.
They took them off their site a while back. I emailed them and got this:
"Thanks for your interest in our Ruger triggers.
Ruger is currently fielding our OEM Field trigger in their RPR but aftermarket varieties are still not available.
We ran into a compatibility issue with Magnum calibers and needed modifications to our trigger.
We need to ensure we deliver a solid product and we need to take the time to ensure everything is done correctly before release.
We appreciate your continued patience while we make the necessary changes to the trigger."
I had wrote Triggertech earlier this month and received this response: "Our OEM RPR trigger is ready, but we are still in R&D for the aftermarket ones.
We hope to release both the RPR and RPR Rim fire triggers this year.
The centerfire should be launched this summer, and the rim fire before the end of the year."
Good info.
Thanks for the updates.
Hopefully we will see something on the market soon.
We expecting the triggers to be released sometime in September. Anarchy Outdoors will be doing a pre sale for the launch of the trigger and we are starting to prepare for it. I have personally tested two or three prototype version of the triggers. I have a dozen laying around the shop. Both specials and diamond. They are very well built and are worth the wait.I had wrote Triggertech earlier this month and received this response: "Our OEM RPR trigger is ready, but we are still in R&D for the aftermarket ones.

are you using a rifle length buffer tube or a carbine tube? Do you have the correct adapter? Is rear screw tight (if using rifle tube)? Is that forward bolt tight on the adapter?Hey guys quick question. Just replaced factory Ruger stock with Magpul PRS gen3 stock. Any idea why the stock is able to easily twist like shown in the picture.

Do you have an AR armorers wrench?Ok I disassembled it. The carbine adapter has no nub, but the rifle buffer adapter does have a nub on the end. However I have the carbine buffer and so cannot use the rifle adapter. The nut holding the buffer tube (which require the special AR wrench) seems a little loose. But I don't have the special wrench. Guess I'll have to buy one. Needed to get one anyway for reasons like this.

Do you have an AR armorers wrench?
Pro Tip: When working with the castle nut buy/use a wrench that engages more than just 1 of the slots. Lots of all-in-one AR armorers' wrenches only engage a single slot and it's real easy to slip and bugger up a single slot. There are wrenches just for doing castle nuts on ARs that engage multiple slots and they're much less likely to cause you problems.No. I will go and buy one, should solve the issue
Did it fix the issue?Eh...small town. You take what you can get. Ran over to the gun shop. Job done.

I don’t shoot mine much anymore but for they money, yeah I’d say they are awesome.View attachment 7946345View attachment 7946346Just picked up a new RPR in 6.5PRC last week. Took it to the range yesterday and “broke in” the barrel with some Norma’s and it ran flawlessly. Went back to the range today and worked on tweaking the stock for a better fit and ran some Hornady ELD match through it.
I’m very impressed with this gun to say the least and found it very enjoyable to shoot. Very little recoil and it’s a tack driver! I’m really looking forward shooting it more and I think this gun is a phenomenal value for how well it shoots!
Yes , used LRI tool and barrel. RPR338A couple of questions on the RPR's.
What are owners experiences like with the 338 Lapua's ?
Has anyone re-barreled a 338 Lapua RPR to 338 Norma?
Nope. It’s a standard A.R. 15 trigger assembly and safety selector no issuesRPR owners,
I shoot left handed. I have the Tuxedo grip with thumb rest on left side. I would like to remove the safety selector on the left and just have the one on the right side. Can I disassemble and remove it, or do I need to get some sort of replacement to hold everything together?
It's not an AR trigger, but rather a modified Ruger American trigger that uses a standard AR safety lever to operate the safety function. You should be fine removing the left lever. There's no detent like in an AR, but rather a coil sping with extended legs in there that rides against the safety lever and gives a little spring tension to operate the lever against. I believe the first couple gens also only came with a 1 sided lever. I'm not sure if the spring was also designed to help keep the 1 sided version in, or if the way it interfaces with the trigger slot is enough...but either way you should be fine to remove the left lever.RPR owners,

Yes I meant safety assembly. The trigger is a bit different. Mine came with a single sided on the left. I removed it and the spring and replaced with an ambi seekins selector and the Tinney trigger. It's not an AR trigger, but rather a modified Ruger American trigger that uses a standard AR safety lever to operate the safety function. Sorry to hear about your mechanical issue. Can you show us a pic of your boltface ?Finally got a day off last week to play with my .308 RPR.
Scoped, boresighted and then off to the range.
I do believe I'm an instant fan of the folding ability. First gun like this for me.
Terrible trouble getting it to feed for several shots.....then this spring fell out during mag change.
Zero trouble with feeding after that.....but immediately quit ejecting cases....it would extract them...just not eject.
Cursed range session.....rushing to be the rain.
First time I'd ever used a bipod.....by then end of that first box, I was really liking it.
The gun and ammo was capable of much better.....my crappy form and frustration over feed/eject and rushing sucked up the 100yd "scatterings" as I dare not refer to them as groups.
Hopefully I'll get time to figure out the mystery of the spring tomorrow afternoon and install a new grip.
