Like I said before, that second link you just shared showing the Steam post has been debunked. That wasn't Crooks. The user changed the profile name AFTER the assassination attempt. FWIW ... the short black ladder is a telescoping ladder and in the video where they're breaking through the fence to get to the building you can see one of the SWAT guys throw it over the fence on the way to the building ... they brought it with them ... wasn't fully extended when they were shown using it.
Probably one of the ladders the guys in the other video were waiting on when they were complaining no ladders were available at the scene

There's plenty of HVAC techs here including me. I've been on quite a few of buildings of this type. Climbing the ductwork is not possible in my opinion. Using the uni strut holding the lineset maybe? But it's not structural. It's usually just screwed to the sheet metal siding with self tapping screws. It's just there to keep the copper tubing in place and looking neat. The gutters on these buildings are not something that I would trust to hold my weight. I'd grab it like a drowning man would a life preserver if I was falling but not as a means to get me on the roof.
The bands around the duct maybe an inch and a half and are usually three to four feet apart in a vertical installation. Even if they were only two feet apart Crooks would have to be a rock climbing legend to have the finger strength to hold onto it.

Would need to see a real-life photo of the AC/HVAC unit in question, shown in the animation to know for sure. The animation makes it look pretty easy and not that high, and I have climbed up onto buildings/structures using less. But then again, I'm actually a rock climbing ninja haha...
And I don't think anybody is saying he climbed "duct work", unless that means something different to you vs. the layperson. There was an external AC unit of some sort at ground level. Just like the ground AC unit I used to have outside a building I lived in. And I climbed up onto that one no problem. It supported my weight (215 lb) just fine.
