I'm currently in negotiations with the wife for a kitchen pass but I'm trying to go. Im debating running my either my noveske SPR through the whole course of fire. Or should I run my OBR? What size are the targets?

Big. Max carbine is looking closer to 300 than 350. There will be some small targets for the precision rifle out to 600 though.

Sounds like it would be a great match/stage for the 6.5 Grendel types of cartridges, and all the 6mm offshoots of it.

I wish I could make it. Sounds like a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to testing out the 225's in a match, but have some more testing @ different altitudes, etc. to make sure they're dialed in first. Also don't have any non mil-surp bimetal rnds for my DPMS for a match. I should work on that soon. Have fun all, & be safe.

Hey everyone, been lurking the site for a while now, thought I'd join finally. Recently moved to the pnw from California camp pendleton. Marine corps is sending me to school up here in hippieville usa aka Bellingham. Looking to get into more lr shooting and wanting to learn how to reload for myself, as well as be around people who know that guns aren't "evil" Haha very active up and down the I5 corridor and would be very interested in meeting more folks in the shooting community. I'm about the farthest north, live in Blaine, work in Bellingham. I do some shooting at Custer Sportsman Club off exit 270. Can only shoot to 200M there. The Plantation Range just south of B'ham have a 300 yd range. The closest LR stuff is Bigwheels AO above Acme. Let me know if you want to hook up and do some shootin'! Send me a PM if you'd like.

Well if you're talking about using that for the carbine stuff.....Probably not so much for a couple reasons:
1. Volume and rate of fire...this comp is more geared toward 3gun and tactical rifle matches where targets are large and there are lots of them!
2. This will likely be a "lost brass" type match like most 3gun comps since we're not taking the time for you to pick up 50 rounds+ of brass.

If you're saying that'd work for the precision stuff, then yeah you might be right.

Jim or JLR... would there be any problem with 2 people sharing a bolt gun at the match this weekened? Matt is borrowing my .260 to shoot, but if my TRG isn't ready to go by this weekend I'd be shooting the .260 also.

Well I just ordered a Eberlestock GS2 from Ceylon today. I'm getting the rain cover, & some extra compression straps with it. It'll be in Military Green.(last one too). Hoping to use it in a couple weeks for some bear hunting. I'll do a review when I see it, & get some time in for it in the field. BTW Ceylon was fantastic to deal with.

On another note. I'm thinking of doing a match with more hiking distance involved. Would be including an overnight stay in the mountains. It will be in a totaly different area from BSC's. Possibly up by Winthrop. Or maybe Cumberlan Pass. Both would be @ 4-5K' ASL in some beutiful country. Let me know if you think I'm nutz!

OK. So call me crazy. The match is just "in my head" right now. But I've been "thinking" about it for a while. I'll be looking into it again in the next few weeks. For now it's just a feeler. Obviously it won't be for the "feint of heart" as I have trouble hiking around @ 5K' ASL in the late fall with just my hunting rifle. I'll keep you guys posted.

Snow Huh? That can be arranged...
Second week in November @ 5000' after elk season. White TGT's, on snow backdrops. I'll give everyone a compass bearing to the TGT. And 2-3 miles between stages, all up hill.

Or...from a couple of the shooting positions you could have a partially camoed target...change the shooting order of folks@ each station-first guy huge disadvantage, and have an approximated distance and compass bearing to target. Next. Have to use a GPS/compass to navigate to the next shooting position. Sounds diabolical doesnt it? Maybe have the sheriff on standby to rescue lost competitors?

I like the GPS cord's too. Lot's of open country outside Mazama to work with. But sheriffs are for pansies.

Well, if we're really going to do it in the snow, then It'll have to be in November after elk season. I'll need volunteers with quads, or snow mobiles to help set up tgt's up there. The logistics of this will be tough. Does everyone actually have all the necessary winter survival gear? I have seen 14" of snow fall up there in 3-4 hrs. The passes may be closed too. At least HW 20 will almost certainly be closed by then.
Or, if we don't REALY want to do it in the snow, then late August would be best. Before the archery deer season opens. Otherwise we'll have a bunch of pissed off guys with stick, & string all over.

Is the camping thing going to be where we shoot for the day then return to the vehicles or some central location and camp and then go out again for the second day, or are we going to be hiking and shooting with our camping gear and camping between stages?

I'm still working on that. I would prefer to hike in, & camp, then return to the vehicles. But that just may not be possible. Vehicle security, etc. Like I said. The logistics of a long distance match like this will provide more challenges than anything like BSC.

As hardcore and badass as winter + snow sounds, there's enough challenges already that I think summer would be better (at least for the first time around).

Winter would require a whole extra degree of caution -- bunch of guys (who may have varying experience being "really" outdoors) spread out in an unfamiliar area with motivation to push themselves from a cardio standpoint. It could be really easy for hypothermia to sneak up on somebody.

Not that it isn't possible to do safely -- but I think that it is a big enough endeavor that it may be a good idea to do it a couple times before throwing in the extra sack of monkey wrenches that winter could introduce.

So this talk of an "adventure shoot" has got me thinking along a slightly different path. How about something along the lines of a match in which you travel by quad or dirt bike and have a course that's spread out over say 40 miles of trail/road. It would likely just be a day event, but could be multiple days as well. Say there was maybe 10 firing points which each have multiple targets, and a shotgun start format. While the hike and pack all your shit idea sounds good on the internet, I see that as a logistical nightmare and could end up with some serious safety concerns/liability.

Let me know if anyone's interested and I may try to set something up for late fall or most likely next spring.

Sign in is at 6am. First shots have to be at 7 am so we can be done by noon. The race track takes over the club at noon that day. Be early, bring water and snacks. We will have lunch provided (I hope) and we will brain storm on the 2012 Findlay Cup at that time.
