Rifle Scopes SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

In my eyes, SWFA has proved themselves a joke as a business with this 1-6x24 debacle. Had we all ordered cars from them instead of scopes we would be in a new model year before ever taking delivery of the one we ordered. I absolutely will NEVER order ANYTHING from SWFA again. Once again, I don't expect perfection, but their BS shipping dates, insincere and/or dishonest excuses and lack of communication with paying customers is absurd. Customs has nothing to do with this and there is no way SWFA does not know what the problem is.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say “a joke” and cars might be a bad example. I’ve been on a “wait list” to buy a car that took almost 2 years to arrive. I’ve also placed an order for a car that wouldn’t arrive for more than a year. Waiting is a fact of life in certain sections of the car world.
However based on reading only SWFA posts, with this scope the errors I think SWFA made were:
1. Choosing a manufacturer who didn’t prove they could produce the product up to standards before offering them the contract.
2. Opening preorders while still relying on said unproven manufacturer.
3. Not keeping people posted on what’s going on which leads to speculation and reduced confidence when things don’t go as expected.

A lot of this nonsense could have avoided if they had vetted their proposed manufacturer.
Once a new manufacturer had been selected keeping on top of them to make sure a firm shipment date could be expected then passing that information on to us however, late that date might be.

Or, just popping in once a month to give people updates or say “hello” if there aren’t any would also let their customers know they haven’t been placed on the back burner.

Honestly, this wasn’t a price purchase for me. I wanted to support a Texas company. Now I’d just be happy for a straight answer.
How many are being shipped? How soon can we expect delivery?

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Dang! Missed the original 3-gun season I wanted this for. Missed deer season. Missed predator calling season. Missed several hog hunting opportunitities. And now I doubt they will get it here by the next 3-gun season.

My next purchase will be a Vortex and I won't source my future scopes from SWFA.

All of this would be avoided with basic communication. Frustrating, NFA purchases take less time.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'm slowly looking at buying my ticket on the ditching SWFA train. It's a shame and something that the most very basic of customer service on the back end could remedy.

You shouldn't run deals around social media unless you're willing to follow up via the same media.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Jeez, anybody got cheese and crackers? The whine is flowing, but no cheese an crackers. Put the big boy pants on an wait. I have had the sad misfortune of dealing with our customs officials. I understand their predicament. I am in no way affiliated with SWFA other than owning their products.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

My complaint is they don't check in with us here nearly enough. Yes if this is a media they tout their promotion on then they should keep us fully aprised once a month. I wouldn't say they are disingenuous, though, but I can't say that they are because I don't know and don't want to believe that.

Past time, again, for official update, SWFA. Tell us what assholes we are or whatever. Anything as long as its sincere. I know you can do it, it's all I ask.

I've been your advocate here this whole time. Now I'm bending a little and feeling everyone's pain, including yours because I know you have a conscious.

You cannot ignore us and expect morning wood every day.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Catalyst,

No issues at 16x. No issues at 16x with my 16x scope, either, though. I was hoping with more expensive/higher quality glass, that it wouldn't have eyebox issues.

I'm entirely open to suggestions from those of you who shoot high power optics more than I do.
------------------------------------

If the objective was 56mm, eyebox would be somewhat larger. There are other factors than objective diameter and power, though. Do a search on the SWFA website, you would find a better answer. Or search SH for exit pupil, this should work.

I would look at various scope's specs to learn something about exit pupil size.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Doing my weekly check in on this thread for new info and the swfa banner was at the bottom of the page. They really hold to their "Nothing Comes Close" motto when predicting shipping dates.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I worked for U. S. Customs for many years. Save your wine and cheese. This isn't a Customs issue but you are free to believe what you want to believe.

Yep 10 pages back I was solid on the SWFA side. Now I'm lightly sitting on the it sucks but holding out for the value side. The only thing giving me ANY sort of hope at this point is my shipping invoice showing how lil I owe on the 1-6 now.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'll continue to wait and not bitch, but I'm guessing SWFA has learned their lesson on this debacle. Maybe there is good reason that companies like NF don't say shit about new releases or take preorders before they are available. Look at "The Beast" from NF and you won't find any (official) specs, pricing, release dates, etc. and all anyone says is, "I can't wait to see it." No one is mad or has any butthurt because they haven't promised anyone anything. It will be out when it is done and ready. I'm guessing this would be the business model to follow in the future.

SWFA never should have done this like they did. I think most of us are growing a little pissed that its taking a year to fulfill this pre-order, because that was never implied in the original press campaign.

Look at it from this angle. Most of us are going to wait it out. We either already have something filling the role of this scope, or the season we needed this for has long passed, so we're probably not buying a similar scope from another competitor - however, had we known about the year delay, how many would have still jumped in on the group buy and not bought a similar product from another competitor?

If your products are a good quality and a great bang for the buck as SWFA products are you will have no problem selling them quickly. What you mention above clearly shows that. It seems there was just a bit too much greed and unwillingness to shoulder any risk on SWFAs behalf with these scopes.

It does but not really comparable to the SWFA. The USO does not have a daylight visible red dot type of illumination.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I've had enough from SWFA with never ending delays, so I cancelled my 1-6 order few weeks ago and got a different brand. Considering the recent shooting news, gun control agenda and massive nuclear radiation fallout in Japan, good luck to you guys on getting the scope, while they start banning guns in 2013. SWFA just lost a customer.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'm going to buy a Vortex 1-6x. I'll wait it out and get my SS, but I'll just flip it for money. Last 3 times (over the last few months) I called SWFA the person on the phone seemed like I was putting him out by calling. Every time I have ever called Vortex I get someone who has been awesome. They answer my questions no problem and if they don't know, they don't sugar coat it or blame customs.

I sent SWFA a lot of business over the years. No more, I'll support liberty optics or Vortex direct instead. I don't care if I pay more at this point.

I learned my lesson with pre-orders when I put down a deposit for a S&B 1-8 on August 16th, 2010. (For the record, MULTIPLE reputable dealers were quoting an Oct 2010 delivery and were willing to take my deposit.) Eventually I cancelled that. Now I don't pre-order anything that I'll be disappointed to not have a year+ later.

Some more frequent updates from SWFA would be nice, but I'll wait for it. Odds are it'll be a nice scope for a great price.

I must have just had my patience adjusted by all the Form 4 waits.

Of course, when Feinstein's latest ban passes, we'll all have our patience adjusted on NFA waits.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Not worried on the long wait for the 1-6x - I cant find .223 ammo to shoot below $11 for 20 rnds anyhow !! Hope it just builds up a huge surplus of ammo for us after the panic is over.

When there's a bunch sitting on the table at SHOT I'll be slightly upset!!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Got an email saying they got a small batch in stock and just need to inspect them before they send them out. So hopefully someone will get something soon.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Shit, they replied to my e-mail in which I politely asked if they knew when they'd arrive, and when a customer might expect shipment.

Sad to report that the reply came back as "We should be getting them in at anytime!" Non-commital and vague which has become the norm, so the wait continues.

Not only a bad reply but fairly contradictory to the other recent post that said SWFA stated they had received a small first batch. I suppose one could argue that maybe that batch came and went already and the person responding to you chose not to let you know that details and was only referring to a future batch. That scenario is giving them a lot of leniency/interpretation though...

After all of the waiting it seems logical that if they had actually gotten past the huge hurdle of a first initial batch, no matter how small, they would have let you know that. I guess any information beyond being massively vague is probably just not in their "policy".
