Rifle Scopes SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

As far as the brightness, where I am it's very sunny and there's snow on the ground. About as bright as bright gets. On maximum brightness, you can tell that the reticle is red, but I certainly would not call it Aimpoint Bright.

I don't understand the obsession with having it Aimpoint Bright in bright conditions though. Any time it is bright enough to not get any benefit from the illumination, the etched reticle will be highly visible. An aimpoint has to be Aimpoint Bright, because if it gets washed out, there is nothing else to use. The same rules don't apply to an etched reticle.

It is very very bright under just about any indoor lighting conditions.

Gearhead, I was not part of the group buy.

On the highest setting, the reticle was only slightly visible as a shade of red. Would not call it daylight visible at all. Indoors, with all the lights on and the blinds open, I would say it is "daylight visible" but not outside. Nothing close to an Aimpoint but I wasn't really expecting that.</div></div>

From an old review of the SWFA SS 1-4x member Hokie stated,

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">With all the smoke & mirrors out of the way, what you pay for in the Short Dot is daytime illumination akin to an Aimpoint. This particular aspect intrigued me so I spent some time with it. Stacked up to an Aimpoint H-1 at its highest setting, the S&B’s max brightness was one illumination below it. The SS’ illumination was one brightness setting below that.</div></div>

Your evaluation of the brightness does not sound to be on the same page as this. I am certainly curious to hear more on the brightness aspect.</div></div>

Hey guys. I just received a 1-6 too, looking forward to some range time. I wrote that review and will do another for the 1-6. I think the observations regarding the SS not being "Aimpoint Bright" are spot on. I'd have to look back in case I wrote something else to help clarify that statement. Maybe I didn't explain it well enough. In short you can see the lit reticle on the brightest of venues, but in full sun or over snow it's a dull red. No mistaking that. Add in some overcast and I find the highest setting usable...although I'd agree with the poster who said that any bright venue would better be suited with a bold etched (black) reticle.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Shooting from under bright sun, say your target is in some shade like in the trees. Sometimes I can't define unlit reticle when scoping into certain shadows. I hope a lit reticle will resolve this. And I'm hoping in this case an Aimpoint bright ret won't be necessary. I'm not concerned that it's not Aimpoint bright, I never thought it would be anyhow.

thank you. the mount is a swfa/bobro 30mm. low, slightly foward.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

That mount also looks like their new design with screws you can get to without a custom short armed torx wrench.

They showed well in LonewolfUSMC's return to zero test. Nice mounts, the new screw location put it back on my radar.

I agree! when I mounted my last 1-4 with the bobro it cause me to swear them off for good lol. I'm glad they fixed that issue!

So it looks like the screws go in through the top now? Oh God, I hope so...

I was sitting at the computer when the combo went live. I can't imagine I'm very far down on that list. Haven't received it yet. I'd imagine they're still fulfilling 1-6 single orders or we'd be getting a lot more pictures.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Well.... My order was placed 05-04-12 so I'd like to think I was close to the top of the list. I finally broke down and called for the very first time...... while I've been quite reserved and never spoken about these delays, I was fine until I called and spoke to Chris who was polite but completely useless. I might have been better off not getting through because there is absolutely no information being passed on of any kind. Funny...... I wished I hadn't called as the delay didn't bother me until I actually spoke to a representative of the company. Now I'm irritated..... that's usually a pretty hard reaction for me to have. They really could take a lesson in how to tell customers nothing and have them feeling better about the situation instead of worse. There are ways to accomplish the NOTHING statement without making the customer feel like he was squeezing blood from a rock! I've read all the posts, I know all there is to know in a pre-order, but somehow it seems that a few haven't learned the art of saying nothing and STILL leaving the customer with he feeling that you care even if you don't!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

It's hard to say if they are going in any particular order. I too ordered as soon as the 5k likes went into affect. I called just to check in the other day and they didn't know anything. Perhaps they have not received any more since the first shipment or two. Hopefully soon though.

We've been through this plenty enough already, As you have read this thread then you know that. Pour yourself a stiff one and be happy... You have not paid for 1-6 so ball is in your court. You are a free man.

But I know how you feel. And feelings have gotten us nowhere.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'm better now! Everything is back in perspective. Guess I shouldn't have been reading about all this new proposed gun legislation before I called. For the first time in 50+ years, I'm actually afraid of the government and what might have to happen to keep this nation free.

Thanks to all for NOT flaming me in a weak moment. I've had good transactions in the past with SWFA, I'm sure this will be another once they get them in hand.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

You're alright, Bill.

I'm not afraid of them. I think they are afraid of us. They know they are criminals & they know the damage they do. Someday people may have to finally deal with all that S.C.U.M. (Socialist, Communist, Utopian, Marxist)

If only they could get those guns out of tens of millions of honest, responsible, freedom loving American peoples hands. Is this not what they are thinking?

My cold dead hands

I heard Senator Swinestien has in her proposed gun ban bill a provision which precludes all congressman & the like from being subject to her ban bill.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Exactly! To clarify, the thought of what will be necessary against fellow man is what I'm afraid of.... though, do not mistake Meek for Weak. I took an oath years ago and I was never asked to "un-take" that oath when my duty was done. I fully expect to have warm hands holding the tools of liberty when the smoke clears!

What pisses me off is the dumbed down American that can't see that disarming us has nothing to do with crime, safety, or anything else as being represented by the current administration. The sole purpose is to remove the last line of defense for freedom and institute the Progressive (read communist) system of rule.

I too have heard that there are exemptions for those special people that serve those that are supposed to be serving us. If I was doing what they are doing, I'd be trying to get the guns too!

Last of my rant, thread is now returned to regular commercial service! Out

They should lock it for the simple fact that it's nothing more than 38 pages of "Hey, where the fuck is my scope?".

They should have titled the thread way back last year to "The 2013 SWFA tax day group buy" or something along those lines. Seriously, I'm going to do my '12 taxes next week.

Also, does anyone know anything about the 5-20's? I am still patiently waiting for both the 1-6 and the 5-20. I guess that is what happens when you order on the last day of the sale.

It will. I have been unable to find any conditions in which the reticle is not very easy to see. Anything so bright the illumination no longer looks bright and you have a really bold reticle in bright conditions which is always easy to see. Any sort of shadow like you're talking about and the illumination makes the reticle stand out.

Thanks, Jon. This is just what I would expect, just haven't had the illuminated experience. And I'm not thinking Illuminati

I had to call back recently and ask again to have the 5-20 shipped, they then told me it was instock and was sent out two days later.. Unfortunetly when I received it It had issues and had to be sent back. . . So I am awaiting a replacement atm..

Be very specific that you want it separately.. Every time I asked for an update or availability of the 5-20 I got a different answer.

just curious - exactly what issues did yours have?

should we also start a tracking spreadsheet with our order #'s and shipment status? I'm curious as to how many 1-6's actually went out and what % was fulfilled.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

So at first I wasnt sure if i should just be bummed out or actually send it in for warrenty.

It had what I now consider to be significant smudging inside of the objective lense. ( I checked every single optical device I have cameras, spotters, other scopes and not one had internal smudging) There was a small chip on the outside edge of the objective lense, as well as a fine 5-6mm long scratch inside of the objective.

After checking all my other gizzmos and gadgets I just wasnt happy that my scope came that way. I also have a SS 10x and it was flawless internally.

Edit: significant enough I could take photographic evidence of all three.

Holy crap i got a tracking number!! For the 1x6 that is. I ordered mine almost immediately following the activation of the 5k likes if anyone is wondering. Now to get a kitchen pass to go out and give it a run. haha

my order is so confusing in the system.

View Order #190689
Order Date: 5/21/2012 9:39 PM
Order Total: $1,600.38
Balance: $1,600.38
Status: Back Order
Payments: $0.00
Unprocessed Payments: $1,600.38

but I've already been charged $1300-ish for the 5-20. I really hope they don't screw up and rebill me the full $1600.

Here's some testimony to validate the SS' matriculation into society! I'm off to sight her in at 50 because I simply can't wait. I'll reach out to 200 tomorrow. I plan to do a write on it asap and try to capture the good, bad, and ugly. So far, it's all good though - ain't gonna lie. The reticle is pretty slick.

I don't believe you need to worry at all. I added BC caps and recently BOBRO mount to the order and it does not show up on the outstanding order in my account. But I know that they see it, I called them.
