I've been looking around and I've found a few website reviews on the Thompson Center's Icon rifles. What do you think of them? I'm talking more about the regular Icon and not the Icon Warlord. One downside I've found so far is a lack of aftermarket parts for it including stocks. I'm thinking about getting the Icon Weather Warrior in the 300 win mag. It'll be kept stock for a while even if I do find some aftermarket parts for it.

Re: TC Icon

I'm going to plan on picking up an Icon unless I hear something that I don't like about them. They offer additional mags around $30 each which is a lot better than tikka mags. They have the aluminum bedding in the stock which is a plus to me. They also have sub moa guaranteed accuracy. From the reviews I've read people are averaging .6 in groups with a little load development. The gun seems as though it will fit my purpose of target shooting and being able to take elk hunting or just having a little over powered deer rifle. I'll take some input, I'm just saying my thoughts.

Re: TC Icon

My father shoots one (308) and it is a very nice production rifle for the money. His shoots about 3/4moa with FGMM 175's or 168 Hornady match ammo. I haven't tried any hand loading for it yet. Fit and finish is very good and the action is as smooth as butter. He fit his with a Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 for hunting/bench duty and is happy with the combination. These rifles are heavily discounted right now because they didn't sell that well. Not too many people willing to take a chance on a bolt gun from a muzzleloader company. Ask George Gardner (GA Precision) about these, T/C consulted him during the development of these rifles and he has pretty good things to say about them.

Re: TC Icon

I have a TC Icon in 308 that i setup for my son with a williams guide series brake. Nice production rifle with almost no recoil. I loaded 175smk's with 42gr varget, great groups from a skinny barrel. I currently have it for sale locally, PM me if you a are interested.

Re: TC Icon

A couple months ago I got a T/C Venture .308 in the weather shield and posted a couple of ?? about the stock and such. The venture has a round action similar to a Rem 700 and is pillar bedded albeit in a cheap polymer stock. Some wise folks here suggested not to bother bedding it further but I did take some marine-tex epoxy and fill the cavities in the fore end (used a wooden tongue depressor as a trowel as it nicely fit the contour) then after a couple days smoothed the excess out with a round surf rasp so the barrel still free floated. I also pulled the recoil pad and filled the butt stock with some expanding foam. Made the whole set up a bit more solid. I also shimmed the recoil lug slot with a piece of .015" brass shim at the rear. Haven't shot it since cause I had to send my scope back to Vortex because some piece of s@#t dislodged on the optics internally and landed right near the lower right quad of the recticle (very distracting!) sorry about the long story, but bottom line, I couldn't pop for the extra bucks for the Icon, but the Venture shoots real well, MOA as advertised.

Re: TC Icon

Read about the Icon in the gun rags when it came out. Seemed well thought out. Flat bottom receiver with 3 integral recoil lugs that bed into the aluminum bedding block. I forget the other details. Like so many other factory models, not made for lefties. Disappointed to hear they're not selling well. Maybe guys that want to spend that much on factory rifles go with Sako or Weatherby, or Kimber.

Re: TC Icon

It seems TC has made a good product they are just really going to have to prove themselves to sell well. They are know for their interchangeable barreled pistols and muzzle loaders not rifles. I took a marketing class and an advertising class at college and its amazing how much perceptions effect things.
