Tikka T3 Thread

Just out of curiosity, is the Sterk bolt shroud tool the same as the factory Tikka one? or is the Sterk more robust and better designed?
Both are very similar, the original Tikka shroud tool is injection molded plastic, the Sterk shroud tool is Water jet cut from solid uPVC sheet plastic. I can't imagine either breaking for any reason. People stopped receiving the tool with their rifle from factory and I had requests about making them. The T1x shroud does not fit as it is different.

There are 4 items you will always find on my Tikka rifles. Sterk bolt handle and shroud, I now have them on all 3 of my rifles! And Mountain Tactical trigger springs (aside from 1 Timney trigger) and their scope rails. After trying multiple other manufacturers, these are my go too parts!

15 round break-in on my Tikka t3x. 308.Everything went well the left target top right is 6 shots and 2 fliers. With hunting loads I reloaded for the original T3X before rebarreling.
I jazzed ?

I just disassembled my Tikkas and brought the trigger weights down to 600 grams with some springs I got off eBay...

In the process of doing so - it felt like the action screws were only on finger - tight!

Surprising, since they all shot so well to 100 meters...

Will shoot this for the first time tomorrow but this has been awhile in the making...Manners PRS-TK1, left hand (first one in Australia), factory trigger with Yo Dave spring, Mullerworks medium palma 1:7.75 twist finished at 24" and cerakoted, Vortex AMG with MOA reticle in a Spuhr 3001 mount sitting on a Ken Farrel 30moa rail. Went with an Arca Swiss rail and picked up one of the new Atlas CAL bipods. She's chambered in 6XC and I've got a 419 Hellfire brake to go next week. Load development starts tomorrow with 105gr Lapua Scenar L, RDFs and Berger VLDs all getting a run in front of H4350. Oh yes, the action has also been cerakoted and the bolt microslicked. It has a Sterk titanium pineapple bolt handle and titanium shroud.

What dbm is this?

Finally got the sterk swept bolt knob and TRG shroud in. Extremely nice cycling the Tikka is much easier now. I do wish it stuck out a bit more, i find it more flush to the chassis than my Tempest knob. Still the quality is extremely good on both.

Looks good, glad it arrived. It would stick out more if the bolt lift was less on the tikka, if it was any longer it would be touching your trigger finger when in the closed/down position due to the bolt lift angles at play. I've had people tell me it's a hair too long and a hair too short haha.

I figured it was probably something to do with functionality. Regardless it's a fine piece of work John, cycling is 10x better now and that shroud gives the tikka a great look.

That stainless action in the MDT is pretty cool looking

I was always more of stock guy until the ACC came out. Now I've got one coming for my Surgeon. The ability to make minor tweaks until the rifle is perfectly tailored to the shooter is hard to give up once it's been properly experienced. That said, if weight savings are any consideration carbon fiber remains king.

Did you coat the bolt shround on the top left FDE yourself or can you buy it like that?

So, I don't know about you guys, but being limited to a 3.41" OAL for my 7mm RemMag was a real bummer. For me to have .020" jump for 175gr ELD-X's, which my Tikka shoots marvelously, I would need to single load them through the ejection port...

NOT ANYMORE!!!

Before....

Now I can mag feed 183 Matchkings seated to .040" jump. 3.56" OAL. ??? as opposed to previous 3.40" and jumping them .20"!!!

Will this impact your ability to feed shorter rounds?

I have a quick question about replacement stocks. My Tikka is a LA magnum and I want a Manners stock for it. Will any Manners built for a Tikka fit it? Do you just open up the magazine box and use LA bottom metal to make it work? The action screws should be the same distance apart on both SA and LA, is this correct?

After loading a few dummy rounds of my assorted bullets like the 168 Nosler Custom Competition, Horn 139 GMX, Horn 175 ELD-x, etc. No, it doesn't effect feeding because I also tune my AICS magazine lips to angle the round slightly upward anyway.

I mainly did this because in re-barreling soon to a Proof Research M24 28" 1:8 twist. I bought 1500 of the 183 Matchkings a couple months ago for that barrel. Just waiting for it to arrive and everything will be off to my Gunsmith to spin up.

Yes. The T3/T3x long/short action are the same action, just different length bolt stops essentially. Tikka is as Tikka does.

That's some true dedication, I would've just cut my losses and gone for a different cal. Probably 284win or 7SAUM.

I got thinking last night about Tikka naming conventions.
We have the T3 and T1 now, wonder if there will be a T2?

A dedicated micro action for 223 sized cals would be sweet, a 300blk would be added to my Tikka collection instantly!

Indeed, however, if I wanted to re-barrel to, say, 300 PRC, the OAL of that cartridge is still longer than 3.41" (up to 3.685" with the 200+ grain A-Tips). I would have needed to open up the bottom of the action anyway.

So, I decided, "Fuck it. Let's do this thing."

We seem to see more and more T3 actions being used for PRS type shooting. The T3 action just seems to be a very well designed action that is easy to bed and rifles perform reliably. Two weeks ago the Irish brothers Rory and Daniel set out to compete in as far as I know their first international comp the Accuracy Int. sponsored Precision Rifle League in the UK. Both using a T3 action, Rory with 6xc, Daniel 6.5x55, both carbon E-Tac4 stocks.
Rory placed first, Daniel second. My hat off to the boys and proud that we had a small part in it.

Well I just installed my bolt handle and shroud, just AWESOME, "top shelf" quality and fit & finish, well worth the time and money for the upgrade. Stretching my legs to 800 tomorrow, and doing a MV tuning on the Kestrel. Cheers

Tikka Tac A1 - 6.5 Creedmoor
Razor HD Gen II
Vortex 20 MOA Mount
1,600 rounds down the pipe

Some 200 and 300 yard paper groups. Obviously these are my better groups. The rifle has definitely been a shooter :X

My Tikka is Finally "Finished" the Sterk handle feels great in the hand and looks amazing.

Tikka T3X CTR 24" 6.5 Creed Barreled Action

Sterk AI style Swept Ball Bolt Handle

Dead Air Keymo Muzzle Break/Can Mount

NightForce 20 MOA rail

Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 in Seekins 34mm 1” Height Rings

Atlas PSR QD Bipod/Atlas Rail

Manners T5A Composite Stock, With CDI AICS Bottom Metal, and 5rd AI mag

Blue Force Padded Sling

The paint job on the stock was rattlecanned using triangle “splinter camo” stencils from tactical penguin and hit with a matte clear overcoat of Brownells Aluma Hyde for durability. The barrel, receiver, bolt shroud, and mag body where coated with their fde Aluma Hyde. I set up the “grippy” parts of the stock by wrapping them how I wanted in athletic tape, then cutting the tape off in large sections that would lay flat, effectively making stencils to use on sheets of rubberized talon grip material. It feels great, offers a surface that isn’t as slick when wet as the smooth stock and should be more permanent that a simple tape wrap. Shooting bag is just a bag of rice and aquarium gravel wrapped in duct tape and covered in a zip tied cut up t-shirt. The "Ranger Bands" under the cheek piece are sections of bike inner tube and hold the dope card and sling to the rifle as well as stow the hex wrenches I use to adjust the riser and the zerostop on the turrets.
