I think we lost the originality of this thread. Regardless of your feelings about unions, there are real people who are losing their jobs at the swipe of Biden's pen. These could be your neighbors or family members. The fact that he did this to spite Trump is what we need to be mad about.

I worked with a union steward. Same company, same county but I was out of a non union ops. I asked what their pay was and it was 10% less than what I was making. On top of that their ot was greatly resricted. I pointed this out and they had wrong union negotiate their contract he said.
I asked whos fault that was and he said yeah but we get 13 new uniforms a year.
I pointed out we got fitted uniforms and work boots whenever we wanted, and 100 dollars in gas cards a month, plus a Christmas bonus, and we didnt have an adversarial relationship with managent.
Guy claimed he was conservative, I asked why he trusts and pays democrats to look out for him. Crickets.

I have been harassed by the IBEW for over 10 years now. Every time they get a new recruiter he tries and tries. I've gotten very good at telling them to eat a dick.
I start with the questions, then I ask what they're actually doing for me, then I lay out what I have (far better than their package), and I finish it off with "if your locals and heads would quit donating to the Dem party we can talk. Destroying jobs so I can sit on a bench sounds like I'd have to learn how to be a lazy piece of shit."
By the 3rd visit and every one after it's simply the last question. There's never an answer, only a diversion to how much they pay. My favorite thing with the latest guy who shows up at 12:05 every time, just roll up the truck windows and lock the doors. Stare at him like I'm deaf and refuse to talk to him. He's a persistent bastard, see him every week. After I said no the first 10 times you'd think he'd get the hint.
Unions are dead and dying here, have been for a long time. When the kids learn about the Ponzi scheme going on with their pensions, and they see that retirement number go from 20, to 25, to 30 they cut and run. Last few union run jobs I've been on were all 50+ yr old guys, no young ones to pay for their pensions.

I think you'll find this in most instances. Before I retired, I'd say at least 80-90% were conservative leaning. Some liked the Demwits programs because they gave away money for more jobs.
Same in my company and amongst the union leadership.
I heard on radio last night an interview of those Keystone union leaders with Hanity. He asked point blank who they voted for. Let’s just say the first guy that answered Trump was not very convincing, he stammered around before giving his answer. The rest were more solid with their answers and of corse, they all said Trump. God only knows......

Berkshire Hathaway (Buffet) owns BNSF. Currently much of the oil is sent by train. The Pipeline will put an end to that, killing the value of BNSF.
Has nothing to do with "green" anything. In fact, the pipeline is 100 times greener than a bunch of Diesel trains transporting petro.
Xiden is bought by everyone so thats why he killed the pipeline.

Most pipelines in the field are conservatives. The unions that cover pipeline work are much different than at factories. If you can't do the job, you're gone. I think it's 3 bad welds and the welders are gone. If the operators can't be proficient they're gone. Think of these unions more of a hiring hall that sets the wage, finds work and takes care of pension and healthcare

Look at the price of oil as well. Their masters the Saudis, Russians, Iranian,ect can't survive on this rock bottom oil price forever. They need high oil prices to fund their governments and line the pockets of the oligarchies. Fuck every union puke in here. I was union for years. The IAMAW. Worked for a major airline as a mechanic. When I got hired there was a meeting for the new guys with the union reps. Basically 3 goons told us we would be joining the union or else. You basically could not fire anyone for just about anything. There were guys practicing their golf swing all shift. There was a guy that would clock in and go to sleep all shift so he could work at the business he owned during the day. There were guys that spent their time and company resources working on personal projects all shift. This meant the guys who actually gave a damn (like me) had to work more to take up their slack. The only thing unions do is protect the losers and assholes so they can collect their protection money ,oops I meant "dues". Don't get me started on grievances and other union bullshit.

Because a plane comes in for heavy maintenance it needs to be turned around and put back in flight by x days. A plane on the ground is a plane not making money. So if you want to stay in business the company has to make a profit. Not that most of those fucks gave a shit. And yes they assign you specific jobs, thing is they knew who the losers were and who worked . The work guys got more/critical tasks assigned. 15 minute breaks were closer to half an hour because most would stop early and start late. We would clock out at 11pm. The line for the clock would start at 1015......
basically unions can take away the incentive to perform.
if you get the same raise as the superstars no matter what a piece of shit you are, why would you be motivated to pull your head out of your ass and do your fucking job? they proved it with union teachers at edison hs in miami.
it wasn't the kids, the parents, or the community, it was shit teachers protected by unions while only 25% of the kids graduated year after year.
the sad thing is, the poorer and blacker the communities, the easier it is to blame the parents, and they don't call that racist.

Yep, a guy I worked with's father had the privilege of working at GM pre-union. Where you pissed/shit yourself at your work station on the assembly line, as leaving to use restroom meant you just kept walking out the door to unemployment.
Anyone that thinks their current working conditions have nothing to do with union influence is deluded. However I do agree that Unions have become an entity unto themselves and no longer represent the workers best interests.
The unions are only allowed to get away with what management will allow. There are checks and balances with every union contract. I worked for a large company who had a large number of unions representing the hourly employees. As managers, we were responsible for allocating the work and holding them to it. If the employee didn't do their job or was unsafe, they would be brought up on charges and usually they would get time off. Some of them would make it a habit of going to trial and many lost their jobs. Some were given as much as 180 days off without pay. The AFL-CIO would come in and try to play hardball. All we did was show them the contract and they had to back off.
I'm not saying that some unions aren't bad for the work environment, but in my opinion, it's only because management didn't know their contracts or sold the farm to the unions for some unknown reason.
true, before you could pick up the phone and ask somebody how they were treated at ford, people just did what they had to do to keep their jobs.
of course i am simplifying this, but really all it takes is the same kind of honest competition for skilled labor that we have in many industries now.

Funny how Obama & Democrats were ok with completing the keystone pipeline when it brought oil to Illinois / blue state refineries, but suddenly is not ok when it’s gonna deliver oil to Texas / red state refineries. It’s even more funny that nobody has ever mentioned this.

That might be true in traditional unions but as far as construction, if there's a ton of work sure everybody is working. But when work slows down, the best guys will stay busy.

yeah, i am not trying to say every union is entirely bad, but it is still a system of kickbacks and extortion or racketeering.
employers should be able to hire whoever they want (if they have the skills) but money moves around and labor is allocated to those that play the game with the people in control. if you don't cooperate, good luck getting workers when you need them.
that said, apprenticeship and all that is great.
it won't move shit, except the price of transporting the oil over rail will continue to payoff billions.
trump admin did finally approve an SMR design for production last year, so at least there is some progress unless xiden cancels that too.
