I'm using a Vector 21 to see how is works with Field Firing Solutions to have target coordinates, very accurate, if you do the tripod compass calibration you are dead on always..
I'm also testing the export fuction in the targeting menu of FFS, very interesting fuction, you can create a targets groups and with a simple click you have it export in Ozi explorer navigation software, and you can also see them in google earth

Just wait for and EMP and see how thing work for you then. I will still try on getting better on the mil dot master. NO batterys needed.

Aside from the fact that any EMP strong enough to actually damage modern electronics would assuredly be followed by a fireball, pressure wave, and radioactive fallout that would leave you cause for concern beyond the ability of your LRF to function, military electronics are hardened against EMP as just one of the many requirements for durability.

By all means practice with your mil-dot master. But good luck actually using it at the distances these can read.

I agree with the use of mil dot master to have range and dope..

but here I'm talking about something different.....

targets coordinates using a laser range finder and FFS.....
nothing more, nothing less..... regardless of any EMP or other things...

I'm showing the precision of some good devices..

I guess this its a couple days late, but that is a rocking good set up. I also use the FFS software with my Kestral and a leica rf. Your setup with the vectronix is where I need to get.

NICE piece of gear , for sure , BUT its always good to knw how to work a good old fashion map & compass , for those days when the batteries die or the Sats are off line etc .

As far as calling in fire , I am familar with it , and did all mine with a map , protractor and Brit prismatic compass , we had access to a Simrad LP7 laser range finder , and when it worked it was awsome , trouble was that you could charge up 3 spare batts and when it came to use the Laser , almost put money on it NOT working , so in the end guys did not carry it into the field at all , and about the only thing they could not do in the field was what we called a Polar mission .

Funniest thing was when we jumped off a truck in desert side of State Highway 1 , and where told to plot our location grid , 3 guys had the new then Rockwell Mil GPS , I had a grid worked out in about 1 min , the guys with the GPS all had trouble getting a fix , and asked me for MY grid so they could get their GPSs sorted .

IN this electronic age sometimes we forget or donot learn the basics any more , at lot of hunters and trampers in NZ donot know how to use a map & compass at all , thats fine until they get lost & run out of batts .

I am all for using high tech gear , BUT you should also have a passing knowledge of how to do the job with out IT as well ,
