Vertx Kryptek pattern impressions

I have read the reviews here on the pants and the jackets and what i learned is that you should buy a size bigger pants if you order Vertx clothing. Good to know

I want your impressions/opinions on their Kryptek patterns. I like their overwrites in the Yeti pattern, and the highlander pattern would seem to be a good fit for fall time hunting. What are your impressions of these patterns?

I have a bunch of Vertx and it seems true to size for me. I have been very curious about the Kryptek too. It seems great for hunting

Highlander works incredible out here in Wyoming, waiting for Vertx to come out with their Smock in Kryptek and I'm going to jump on it. Very effective camo patterns, you won't be disappointed.

Sizing fits me perfect. In fact I usually have sizing issues when ordering online (big guy 6' 230 lbs) and these fit perfect in my size.

With regards to sizing Im 6 foot and 225 lbs and the pants have been true to size and very comfortable when moving about. I wear a 38/32

Kryptek is some of the better "technical" hunting gear out there for sure. I own a few different pieces and all the Kryptek gear has been bullet proof and the workmanship is top notch. And both of the owners are EX SF guys that have done a lot for this country and I enjoy supporting them! You won't be disappointed in their gear...

Would the cadog series of clothing be suitable for spring turkey? Mainly, is it heavy enough to wear on a brisk spring morning and not freeze my ass off in it?

The pants most definitely. I can't speak for the top. They might be too warm for Turkey Season depending on what it's like in Nebraska? I just got the Cadog pants and paired them with the Aegis jacket for hunting in the 20s here when it gets cold. The jacket is much lighter than my drake jacket i usually wear it's probably a tad less warm but it's not enough to bother me. It's a single layer jacket is the key my drake is a double layered goosedown The pants however are fantastic. I wear a base layer of Under Armour 3.0 with it and it's warm as hell. Walked to the stand the other day in mid to low 40s and had to take my jacket off before i started sweating. They advertise the Cadog system as sort of a lightweight pant but i would call it med. It's not too heavy but it's not exactly lightweight and thin either. It seems like the perfect set of pants for an elk hunt or something of that nature.

No problem man. Though what's the spring like in Nebraska? If it's below 20 i might opt for heavier pants like the Aegis suspender pants. From what i gather the Aegis is the heavy stuff. Though i think they honestly need better descriptions on the environment the clothing is meant for.

I followed their sizing chart accordingly for the pants and the fit is perfect. I wear a 37/38 and went with the Cadog XL "37-39" and it's a perfect fit. I might recommend getting the jacket a size up though. I've been wearing my medium drake jacket for sometime that is really a tad small for me, i think i went a size up from that and the kryptek jacket fits appropriately but i could use a tad more room. I have that suite feeling if i were to drag my elbows forward in front of me to lean on something the jacket would be tight across my arms/shoulders. That might depend on how broad a person is though i guess. So it does fit fine just would like a bit more room.

I thought about the Mandrake but didn't know if it was out yet? I settled on the highlander though because depending on the season i wont be in that much green vegetation where highlander seems to cover a wide variety of environment. If i had the money though i'd have a closet designated kryptek with ever camo patter that i need and ever set of clothing. That's how much i love their pattern and so far per weight they're clothing is extremely warm.

To me the coloration/shading/depth of field on these patterns is great. The patterns appear that they'd be hugely effective in their target environments and the scales would obviously disappear at distance.
I just can't get past the damn snake scales; they just make the pattern seem gimmicky or something to me.

Give me these patterns without the scales and I'd be all over them.

I am NOT trashing Vertx or the guys behind the development of the Kryptek; they're obviously onto something with these patterns and the way they've gotten huge depth out of a 2D surface.

I actually like the scales. I think that's part of what makes the pattern great. When I think of lookin at something through brush and it's associated backdrop those scales will mesh with the little air rated brush your looking through or so I think.

Sitting out here now it's 30 with a 5mph wind. My top might be a tad chilly not bad but my legs are 100% fine.

Update. It's 36F with 19mph wind here. The other day I messed up wearing. Rice boots hehe. Got my mucks today along with the kryptek outfit and I'm 100% comfortable. Hell kinda warm. Got a little hot walking to the stand, sunshine is undoubtedly helping. I'll be coming out in the morning at 21F (so the weather says) well see how it handles then. I say bring it


Sunday it's supposed to be 16 Monday 10 Tuesday 19. High for Monday is 21.

I think you'll like it. At it's weight it's impressive. Been out here this morning sine 5:45. It's 21F virtually no wind. I have two layers on. My under armour base 3.0 and my kryptek setup. Along with gloves, browning wool socks, and mucks. I did bring a heater In case the wind picked up though. But it was out of butane so moot point.

If your conditions don't involve too much wind the setup will be great for sitting still 20s and up. Below 20 id probably add another layer or bring a heater.

Re-checking the weather it's actually dropped. iPhone says 19F weather channel app 20F.

I really like the Kryptek patterns, they work extremely well as indicated on their site. I just ordered the Kryptek Koldo Blockade Rain Jacket/Pant set from Cabelas. They have several Kryptek items on sale in the Bargain Cave.

Just as a bit of information for the group, since there seems to be a lot of cross talk back and forth about the size of Kryptek gear MADE BY KRYPTEK as well as Vertx gear made in Kryptek pattern.


I've found that some of the Kryptek made pants, run small...both short in the leg and tight in the waist and thigh. The best suggestion for those is to visit a store that stocks them and try them on.
The Vertx Gunfighter pants and jacket are a great fit and only MILDLY tight in the waist. Something that I expect to stretch the more they are worn, as all my "tactical bdu" style pants have. Wear them 2-3 times and they stretch a bit...wash/dry them once and they shrink back to "normal"

You're going to notice the fabrics used by Vertx for their Gunfighter gear, the nyco ripstop and other similar fabrics...are very different in color when compared to the performance fabrics that Kryptek uses for their own gear...but there are probably already ton's of posts about that online.

Weather or not the pattern is effective in the field is going to depend on your location. I/we have found that transitional patterns like Multicam and Highlander work far better than any commercial pattern, and in the late fall and winter, the Nomad pattern is equally as effective, even though it was designed for desert use.

Kryptek gear is of really good quality,have a set of Koldo, and Aegis extreme.
The Highlander pattern blends well here all seasons, and the clothes are heavy duty and durable.

I use mine for fall/winter time hunting mainly, works great for me but my hunting is in open mountains so i never get close to the animals.
The Kryptek clothing have one big disadvantage for bowhunters, or possibly close up wood hunting/ stalking and that is simply that the synthetic fabric is very noisy compared to anything i've ever used , especially the heavier Aegis set.
Last thing is they're hoods is too large for normal use, as they're designed to be compatible with helmets, very unpractical if you live anywhere where there is a lot of wind, like me.

That's really the only negative i have to say about them,

Maybe i have a large head or ordered my jacket somewhat snug but the hood fits very well for me. Hell with my Aegis zipped all the way it's somewhat difficult to get on.
