Like my title says, I'm one of the newest victims of Credit Card Fraud. Fortunately, I was able to catch it early enough to remedy.

It make me mad as hell that there are those people out there willing to steal from a complete stranger. And a member of the armed forces to boot.

Re: Victim of Credit Card Fraud

hey brother, chances are, your thief is in Uzbekistan, China, Chad, Nigeria or one of the other 200+ countries that host this shit. Not that the US doesn't have credit card thiefs, but when mine was taken, it was from some bored fuck in Indonesia trying to buy an XBox.

My CC company said the international theft of credit/identity is a big problem. I was a bit surprised they were able to tell me all this information, yet when it came to whether or not they could apprehend the guy, info was "lacking."

Luckily, I didn't have to do a damn thing except sign off on some fraud document they mailed to me, and activate my new card. Hopefully it is not too bad for you.

Re: Victim of Credit Card Fraud

This happened to me last weekend with my discover card and it was a pain since I had a lot of my bills set up for autopay. They notified me and asked me about some charges that were made, someone spent about $800 in two days.

If you could steal from companies (visa/MC/etc.) that are too stupid/greedy to implement simple security measures, all with ZERO chance of getting caught... You might be temped to too.

Things will change when CC companies lose more off of theft than they make by having an simple system that allows the legions of stupid customers their simple (swipe and forget) transactions.

Re: Victim of Credit Card Fraud

yea, it happened to me too. Chase bank called us to ask some questions and since we didn't have a Chase account it was pretty much a fraud issue. Called my bank and got it to the credit fraud world of trying to get it corrected. It sucks.

Re: Victim of Credit Card Fraud

Just happened to me last week. They used a PayPal account to do it and cleared out my debit card. Between my bank and PayPal I am slowing seeing the money returned. Would love to spend 5 minutes with the scumbag that did it....

Re: Victim of Credit Card Fraud

If you use a credit card or debit card there is a pretty good chance you will get hit with fraud somewhere along the way

(which is why it is good not to use debit cards but rather real credit cards, as if they clean out your bank account and your checks start bouncing etc, you can have all kinds of mess to get figured out as well as waiting for your money to get put back)

The credit card companies don't care very much as they don't actually loose hardly any money from fraud, it is all the business that accept credit cards that loose all the money.

If the credit card companies actually had to be out of pocket for the fraud, you bet things would change in a huge hurry, but since they have huge amounts of money, they write the laws and the rules.

The way it works now is they tell the card holder they will take care of it and remove all the charges and send them a new credit card (costs them all of maybe $3 to $5) and then they send notes to all the business owners who got scammed by the guys using the credit cards and tell them... guess what... we are taking all the money back... sucks to be you... oh and just to show that we don't have to use lube... we are charging you $50 per tranaction for our processing costs as well... Have a great day!

The Mob was big into CreditCard scams. Stock scams. ANY scams that offered a quick buck.. Except drugs..

Here is the kicker. There are live web sites where CC's are being auctioned off and bought and the gov and police know about it and yet can do nothing about it.. Enjoy your CC's LOL
