Maggie’s What's Your View II

Forestry issue or just that dry? By forestry I mean proactive removal of trees that promotes growth and sustainability. Az in the last few years seems to have gotten more proactive about our Forrest’s.

I lean in the direction of (lack of proper) "forestry", on top of "dry as hell". In the old days (60's and 70's) there would be (sometimes huge) fires on the eastern slope of the Cascades and us westsiders would never see any smoke over here. So, I doubt we are getting smoke coming over from the eastern slope.

I don't know for sure, but I think most of the smoke we are getting in Western Washington is coming down from BC. They have had a hellacious Pine Beetle Infestation problem and I wonder of the BC/Canadian forestry management aren't just letting things burn in the belief they can get the Pine Beetle problem under control.

One way or the other, it'll all be history in another 4 to 6 weeks when the rains start.

That would make sense to get rid of the beetles but a high price for sure. Your rain rolls in and my desert antics begin?

Kudos on the ride 1J, love the 4 door pickups! As always, amazing country!
Had to run up the hill before the smoke from all the fires blew back in. All day romp in the back 40 and can't be happier with this damn truck. Rides like a Caddie, quiet as hell, and only went thru a third of a tank. That's crazy. Tried to make it into another spot we've seen a lot of Bear sign in before dark.

Came around this corner and stopped to glass this hillside and when ya brake to a stop this damn truck turns off. Was on the fence about that till we got here. Engine stops and immediately we hear snap, crack, pop. Could hear the Elk coming outta the timber on our left at about 450 yards. They just fed across the face of this hillside. Couldn't wait for the Bull to come out or we'd have never made it to our spot. Couldn't be any easier popping one right here. Kick'm in the ass and send him down the hill to the road.

You can barely make'm out, but there really are around 30 Elk spread out left to right along that clearcut.

And then the smoke rolled back in the next day. Hell, you can't even see the hills in the background anymore.......

@hic28 Coulda used your phoneskope deal on them Elk. Think I'm gonna have to order one up...... ;)

Yep, remember those fires well. I was fire fighting for the DNR in the 70's. One thing was for certain. We'd be all over the place, but one place EVERY damn year. Lake Chelan. That damn place was a given to burn like a MF'er. Those hillsides up there would kick your ass good. Even when in tip top shape.

Air quality alert issued for Pacific County

AR-180819989.jpg&MaxW=600

LONG BEACH — Air quality alerts have been issued throughout Western Washington, including Pacific County.
Air pollution, which may cause health issues, is due to wildfire smoke coming from British Columbia, Oregon, the Olympic Peninsula and the Cascades.
Regional air quality is expected to improve by the afternoon on Thursday, Aug. 16, according to the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency. Conditions along the Pacific Coast were better Wednesday than they were Tuesday, when air was rated “Unhealthy.” Wednesday’s air-quality assessment near the ocean in Pacific County is “Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups.”
Sensitive groups — such as children, older adults, pregnant individuals and those with health issues — should take precautions. If possible, stay indoors, limit outdoor physical activity, keep windows closed and avoid driving.
Health problems caused by wildfire smoke can range from asthma attacks to stinging eyes. Other issues can include chest pain, a fast heartbeat, coughing, trouble breathing, irritated sinuses and headaches.
The state operates one air-quality monitoring site in Pacific County, located in South Bend. At about noon Wednesday, the “Washington Air Quality Advisory” value there was 114, compared to more than 190 on Tuesday. The WAQA includes measurements of carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, particle pollution and fine inhalable particles, and sulfur dioxide.
Alerts have also been issued for Thurston, Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor and Mason counties.

Might be a good day for the reloading room......and an air purifier?

Great lookin pups guys! Always had labs, incredible dogs! My last two are English Cockers, great bird finders and absolute comedians! Here's a shot of them after digging for whatever in the river bank. JJ the older black male is a little smarter, he at least swam in the river and cleaned up, Ziva, well she's pretty much of an idiot!

My chocolate thinks that nose art is a preferred behavior? Great looking animal, English? My yellow is American and the other an English.
English father, American mom. Does therapy work locally at the “old folks” home. Then trips to the hospital with the wife once he’s a year old. His name is Max, too.

Wife is a director of nursing at a nursing home and often takes Max with her to brighten up their day. They love him cuz there isn’t a mean bone in him and friendly. Hailey not so much?

South Navarre Creek on the east side and 25 Mile Creek on the west side, I'm sure. For good measure, throw in Entiat. Yeah, those "hills" are ballbusters and a half. Antione Creek road, all the way up to South Navarre Creek Campground is just beautiful. Closer to the Antione Creek road are a bunch of houses/cabins. I am so envious of those folks, except in fire season. I guess if I had one of those places, I'd never pack into the cabin any more than can be thrown into the back of my Yukon on a moments notice and nothing of real value in the cabin. But damn, to have a place there. There are a lot of folks that appear to live there, at least 9 months out of the year. Shit, to snowmobile in, in February, where very few other people ever go......heaven. (y)(y)(y)

Maybe attach your pet propane tank on a line behind it and “waterboard” the tank........

Tip for bears. Take can of bacon grease, apply to tree near berry patch, sit 100 yds upwind........ ?

I like the idea of fair chase hunting and thats how I do it and here on the front range of CO we just need to manage the population tight for a few years

Ya, could have my buddies take pot shots at the tank being dragged down the river. Need long rope. You mean downwind. My employer forbids me to break the law, so 'baiting' is out.............;)

Hopefully that’s not yours and your so disgusted you don’t have words?

Not mine. It was some antelope hunters rig. It just caught on fire thankfully at the top of a pass with sparse vegetation. They drove around for a week collecting seeds and grass in the undercarriage until it caught on fire. Happens this time of year here. They got the guns out and a few things before it was engulfed. Fire only burned about 2 acres between the switched back road. BLM engines were on scene quickly and got it under control.

Glad it’s not your amigo. Are you also impressed with some of the 4x’s you see in the mountains in nasty rocky shit......with sweet tires?
