Sounds to me like you just need to hunt over the gut piles ?

We do... in the summer, we hang road kill deer as well....

But..... coyotes are really smart, and even on gut piles, difficult to hunt, and more difficult in close woods. They will circle you half a dozen times or more b4 coming in, if they've been shot at b4... a challenge.

Larry I'm in complete agreement on the gutting thing.
It seems to be a southern and Texas thing to leave 'em whole til we get it back home thing.
If they are in a decent spot, snap a pic or three and gut that bitch right there and dump a hundred pounds. Let the coyotes have a nice meal.
Oh heavens sakes!! What ever you do, don’t gut that elk!!!

For quartering in the field, no arguement at all. Just don't forget the tenderloins.

Bringing it home all in one piece, gut that elk and leave the pumps and filters for the song dogs.

Rebecca would disagree about leaving the heart behind, so I would bring that home for her and Matthew.

I'll just say where it dies has a lot to do with how I do the chores. Weather also. Also how many miles behind a locked gate. Done it every way you can imagine, including a cedar maggots helicopter once. Never tried the golf ball trick, but just for shits n giggles I'd like to.
Our issue leaving the gut bag in'm is cooking them off. Gotta get'm cooled down.

Hunted with some friends from Monroe, LA years back and they would use the golf ball trick. Deer were gutted in the field and when in camp they hung it from a tickle tongue tree. Installed the golf ball at the back of the neck, secured it with a rope, tied it to a 4 wheeler and hauled ass. Deer stretched out full length and off came the hide. A real hoot after about 4 beers.

I should be hunting.

First I’ve heard of the golf ball trick. Can someone explain?

Thanks

As far as game, gut it quick to cool it off. I usually quarter it out as I have a penchant for shooting stuff a long way from any roads. Also, they skin so quick and easy when warm.
Last year dropped a doe where it was easy to toss her in the truck once gutted. It was right at last light I shot her, so we just gutted and headed for camp. I was wishing for cleaning a warm carcass 2 days later trying to move her very cold and stiff body for butchering.

I still have to watch that golfball video yet. Looks funny

Have a nice trip Theis. Hope they feed you some delicious food and drink at such a deal.

I conducted a brief review of your flight plans. Do you really think you can handle a 1 day layover in Kiev both headed there and back home? ?

Hi,

No Kiev on this trip lol...that would ruin the benefits of nonstop from Houston to Dubai. That is just a flight you crave nonstop on lol.
Kiev luckily for my health is only 1x a year. That is October for Defenders Day celebration along with arms&security expo.

Food at this one......is actually really nice but an evening of their coffee and no sleep for a week without Ambien and even then is sketchy lol.

Countdown to full civilian transition is 2 months though!!! Hanging up the we "advise" you to go and replacing it with you are "requested" to go. Almost ready for new USA based company to go live ?.

Sincerely,
Theis

Hunted all morning with no luck.
Helped my neighbor setup his new smokeless barrel setup from Arrowhead for his Thompson. Gave him primers and a new set of rings, mounted the scope for him, and helped figure out his sizing die setup and got it zeroed.
We shot about ten shots from the garage and he was on his way.
I came back in the house and grabbed a beer and was poking around on the computer for a bit.
Finished the beer and walked into the kitchen with the empty, and this guy was standing where we'd had the target setup. Cracked the back door, peeked around the corner slow and easy, picked the high shoulder and he dropped in his tracks.
The neighbor processed him as thanks for helping him get his setup right. That's my first ever Sunday deer. I usually don't hunt on Sundays.

So I went and shot today.......mirage had me pinned down right out of the gate, wind picked up hard and was blowing my targets around while I’m trying to do load development/zero a scope, broke my Harris bipod (2nd one I’ve broke) , did about three things right with 20.3 things wrong and of course I forgot my duct tape for setting up my target legs.......and had the best day I’ve had in a stretch? shot till I just didn’t feel like it any more. My spot is a bit of a pain in the ass to get to but......how far do you want to shoot?
