Maggie’s What's Your View II

Hunted all morning with no luck.
Helped my neighbor setup his new smokeless barrel setup from Arrowhead for his Thompson. Gave him primers and a new set of rings, mounted the scope for him, and helped figure out his sizing die setup and got it zeroed.
We shot about ten shots from the garage and he was on his way.
I came back in the house and grabbed a beer and was poking around on the computer for a bit.
Finished the beer and walked into the kitchen with the empty, and this guy was standing where we'd had the target setup. Cracked the back door, peeked around the corner slow and easy, picked the high shoulder and he dropped in his tracks.
The neighbor processed him as thanks for helping him get his setup right. That's my first ever Sunday deer. I usually don't hunt on Sundays.View attachment 6969247
That is a nice buck for any day of the week!

Like he was struck by lightning. DRT ??

When you get a free minute, post a pic or two of your 308. Details of it too. I’m not usually a wood/traditional sort of guy, but that is sharp! Looks like it shoots very well too.

It’s a Winchester 70 crf sitting in a super grade stock. 20” rock creek barrel. I’ve had it for probably 10 years and hunted all over with it.

Who the heck is driving to work at 0819?
Or 0719 if it didnt reset?

I know you are still recovering and dang man....... ?

Brother I'm out the door at 0700. Come hell or high water, Jimmy's reporting. And I literally mean 'high water'. Waded through 3 1/2 4 ft of water over the road to get my happy ass out and back in. I'm an idiot. Edit, not today, but as I've posted in the past about it, waded many times to enjoy the beautiful people I get to attend to. Does this guy love his job or what?

Storm damage abounds here in Central VA

He made a mistake

Yes, and they apparently are very fond of soybeans.

This one had me scratching my head a bit

Found a nice rub line just inside the woods off a bean field.
Setup on it and after about 15 minutes I decided I needed to be deeper in, away from the edge of the field, so I moved in about 70 yards. Better view of a creek bottom in both directions. Good decision!...

Sat there for maybe an hour.
Heard an almost continuous tending grunt - first distant, but growing stronger, closer.
They apparently went right up the edge of the bean field. What would have been an easy view and a 30 yard shot turned nothing more than me hearing them go by. Never saw them from my "better" position.

You have my sympathy on that shoulder. I had shoulder surgery in 2003 and heart bypass in 2005. The shoulder was much worse.

My dad said the same thing. He's had knees, a hip, etc... and claims the shoulder was by far the worst.

If you need a hand KL, don't hesitate to call.

Got down to 16f last night. Pond is nearly iced over.
Stuck here at home recovering from shoulder surgery that will have me missing deer season this year.

I feel your pain Brother. From the PNW do not hesitate to holler. Let us help with what we can. Maybe some fresh canned Elk. ?

Right. And I am right handed. Discovered I don’t have the coordination to brush my teeth very well.

Right side , 2006. Only way I could swing a hammer was if I held my elbow tight to the body. I was lucky, nothing tore on the inside, basically a roto rotor clean up.

A hint of advice, if I may. Even after things are feeling better, wear the sling in public for a couple of weeks. People will give you some leeway and some smartass won't slap you to see if it stills hurts. Trust me on that.

Well it was a bit of a long day. Spent Monday night at my aunts place in AR. Got up at 4 and headed to Waco to pick up a ride that my father in law just got from another carnival. In typical carnie fashion, nothing goes very smoothly. I just got back to Cabot AR and I should have been here about 8:30... shit happens

That actually looks like it sucked pretty hard.
Glad you made it back in one piece!

I tore up the right shoulder about 2 weeks ago. It's the second time, I did it 40 years ago too. Never had surgery never even had it looked at and it healed kinda OK. No pain and it worked . It's a partial rotator tear now and they say the old injury is all calcified and it's quite a mess. Haven't slept all night since it happened. I'm giving it a few weeks with ibuprofen, aspirin, and Absorbine and see how it is. Doctor doesn't seam real keen on doing it anyway. Had a hip replaced in 2017 and they did a great job, same place different Doc. Saw a lot of guy's have shoulders done and no one has anything good to say about it.

Well, I sure hope it sorts itself out, at the least get the pain to a manageable level. Tears are bad, they don't heal well by themselves.

This getting old and beat up isn't for pussies, that's for sure.

Sadly that’s not back. We have 750 miles to go today to get home. Waiting now to get the spare replaced plus one backup tire.

Also, last night one lug was so tight that I broke one of my ratchets...View attachment 6970413
That always sucks.
Good luck on the remainder of the drive.
Have some weather moving in you'll want to be ahead of.
I'm guessing you'll be coming up 55.

in my experience, when something like that happens- bad words are said!

Looks like it might be time to invest in a 12v impact gun.
Or some 1" drive stuff.
I've got a 1" ratchet if you want it.

Yeah headed up 67 to catch 55 then 39 home.

Busting that ratchet pissed me off way more than blowing the tire!!! I’ve had that thing as long as I can remember and use it a lot!

You better get home so you can focus on gun season. That's the best therapy you can get for a messed up situation.

This. 3/4" drive, 700 ft lbs torque. I have a 1/2" version, it'll bury hex lags and power lags in green treat lumber and pop lugs bolts off. With all your trucks, this with 6 point impact sockets might be just the ticket.

Food for thought....
