My youngest and a buddy went shed hunting. It's time for the big ones to start dropping their bone around here and the Oregon side. His buddy has been watching this Bull for a couple years now. He's got one side from last year and they were lucky enough to find both sides for this year. Next year, hopefully his 'last' year, he's gonna be a Monster !!!! My youngest is damn near 6'3" if that helps put this thing into perspective. Symmetrical/Typical 6x6. That's one helluva Roosevelt.

Woke up to it snowing a bit this morning. I know, I know, settle down Sally. Only issue is the wet roads were frozen over here so I had a sheet of ice under this crap on the way in to the "Dew Drop Inn". Elk everywhere in the fields trying to get what they could before it gets covered up. All to far for any decent pic. And speaking of decent pics, these turned out like crap.

My Partner today went out and battled the commercial crabbers on the Willapa with his sport pots and got a few nice Dungeness. Brought a pile of meat in for Crab Omelette's. The Cook threw together a nice little brek brek for us to start our day off on a high note. Made the drive worth it.

They really are. My 'best' guess is that Bull is 7 or 8 yrs old. But then again I'm not known to be a real good guesser. :sneaky: I'd put my money on 8 if I had to. He's gonna be one helluva Bull this year, that's for sure. He didn't last this long cuz he's stupid, you know that. He frequents an area or two that you better not get caught so much as looking in that properties direction, let alone hunt it. He may very well be an un-killable Bull, legally. And there in lies the problem. When they get "Book" big people do crazy shit for them as you also know. I really hope some douche nozzle doesn't plug him illegally. That would make me sick.

I knew a guy that shot a bunch of Bulls before the season on private land one year because he was a POS, a drug addict, convicted felon, and didn't want anyone else to have a chance at them. He's in Prison now. He just let them lay !!!! If he's stupid enough to come back to the area, well, let's just say I imagine there are alot of people who would like to 'welcome' him back.

HUNT ON !!!!!!!

Clear as a bell this morning. Damn Elk were again too far away for a photo op, except the 3 standing on the side of the road just over the above hill. o_O Happened too quick for a shot. Either type. ;)

Damn, you get FM radio down there ? Or did you just turn in on to try and fool us ? (Or, are you pulling it in through Sirius ? I don't know anything about how Sirius works......). Anyway, looks like it cleared up to be a nice day.....clear up here in the Puget Sound area too.

Nope, that's straight up outta Compton ghetto FM. And I'm never Sirius, until I am. :ROFLMAO: I don't know squat about Sirius either. I listen to Bob and Sheri on the way in. It's entertaining. They're pretty funny.

You have a helluva drive route to work.
These things seem to melt away the encounters of lesser kinds.

You said it my friend !!! I don't take it for granted either. Aaaaaaabout 50 mins door to door one way of nothing but pristine, beautiful land, rivers, bays, and ocean. More Elk than you can shake a stick at, along with damn near everything else that's good and tasty that swims, crawls, digs, fly's, and walks. I rarely see many vehicles on the road and we like it that way. There are times I'll see literally over a dozen herd of Elk one way, record is 16 I think, and not one vehicle. Not One ! That's amazing.

And moved to this area upon returning from my hiatus.

I like it 10x's better down here than up there. It's a beautiful area and has everything you can imagine, except 3 good days in a row. Neither area has many humans, and I like that. Sent ya a PM.

Asheville / Nashville

I'm going to be lazy and just copy and paste may social media post, because I am still pretty tired from the trip.

Quite a weekend!

One could easily say the weather wasn't perfect, but upon further analysis, perhaps it was. It only rained when we were either inside or driving, and a 74 degree day in mid February at Biltmore should be considered nothing other than a gift from God.

Speaking of such gifts, the REAL reason for the trip was to pay our amazing, talented, beautiful friend, Miss Katie an overdue visit!

While seeing her perform was a bonus, it was certainly not the core reason for the trip.
That was to simply SEE her, in person, as herself, in her new hometown.

Sometimes it's difficult to get a good reading on how someone is doing by simply asking them, "How are you doing?".
We all like to say, "I'm doing fine, and you?"
It's polite and cordial.

I wasn't satisfied with the generic response, and while she has given more details than the cordial response, I think I just needed to see that face, and of course get a hug or seven.

Friends, she IS doing fine!
She is building her "church" (inside reference) and her congregation in Nashville, and she is picking up new followers at a rate that I think is more rapid than she even realizes.

A solid foundation of support from amazing people like Alana Humphries and her friends, Travis (the boyfriend) and his family, new friends through her numerous jobs, and the musically immersive environment of that city are building something of which we can and should all be profoundly proud. The groundwork is being laid.

Yes, there are trials and there are tests thrown down before her, but she goes through them, around them, over them and crushes them with a spirit of eternal optimism and determination that you just do not see very often in anyone, much less a 24 year old veritable "babe in the woods" of this modern era.

So this trip answered some questions, deepened and reinforced our support of this amazing young woman, and put to rest some of my concerns about her true wellness.

Now if we can just get her to handle hot coffee a little more carefully, and maybe rest 10% more than she does (says the man who kept her up past midnight and asked her to come and go for a walk at 6:30 AM), I think she's going to be just fine.

She doesn't always see it, and I have to keep telling her to take a second and look over her shoulder at where she's been, to understand how far she's come, towards where she wants to be.

It was a pleasure meeting some of her new friends and co-workers, and equally a pleasure meeting, with Katie, Steven Whitson and his lovely wife Jennifer at The Inn.
I am blown away at how friendly and helpful some people in around the music scene in Nashville truly are.

I was worried that it was going to be a cutthroat and somewhat predatory experience for Katie, and so many warm people have pleasantly proven that wrong in so many ways!

If you find yourself heading anywhere near Nashville, I highly recommend scheduling a visit and bringing Katie some love and support from back home! Some familiar bricks can be keystones in what she's building. There's plenty of room for them, and I know she cherishes their presence.

She's not here, but she's always from here, and she's still your friend and still family, so please, support her in every way you can, big or small.

She has achieved dual citizenship now, and the towns are different as the earth and Mars (spelled BROADWAY), but common elements are found in both. Those elements are good people, who are both willing and wanting to help her, drawn to her like iron to a magnet. They can't resist.

I regret not getting some actual photos of our time together, but sometimes stopping to take a selfie can disrupt enjoying the moment for what it is, a precious and fleeting snapshot in your life.

Sunrise (with hangover) at the Inn at Fontanel. This is part of the Barbara Mandrell estate. The mansion is opened for tours, but we didn't build in any time for it. We did meet the manager, however, completely by chance while we were drinking and talking in the kitchen at the Inn, and he's very interested in speaking with Katie about being one of the performing tour guides they have at the house.
