Every time there is a gov't shut down, or the threat of one the Dems, and media freak out like its some sort of monumental catastrophe. I don't get it, it doesn't seem to affect anyone in my area in a negative fashion. I don't see anyone running around with their hair on fire. So what gives? Should I give a fuck?

It never is really a "shutdown". Mil and federal agencies still have to show up to work. VA stays open. USPS still runs. Basically all "essential" services remain open and functioning during a shutdown (which according to the Fed seems like all services). Last shut down it seemed like the only thing to close was National Parks and Forrest Service. I am sure some other agencies closed too but impact on day to day life wasn't even noticed by a huge majority of the population.

That is what I meant. But I suspect the non tax payers without a job didn't notice either. Their mail got delivered, their phones worked, etc. It is just talking points and political capital to threaten a "shut down". Now a true shutdown would get some attention, but that isn't ever happening.

...or you could consider the government employees, including law enforcement, that have to show up for work regardless but not get paid until there is another CR or a fully funded budget.

Government shutdowns are a MAJOR pain in the ass for aviation, from controllers to Customs to the FAA and related agencies on down.

Yeah, "essential employees" still have to go to work, but working without getting paid (even knowing they'll receive back pay) does just wonders for even baseline motivation, and staffing for those essential employees is purposefully light which means delays in EVERYTHING.

Yes, the sun still rises in the east and sets in the west, but ass pain absolutely exists and it almost never politically works out for the ones responsible for a shutdown.

I would greatly prefer no shutdown, as that's just bad fucking governance all the way around.

Here is what most people don't know about shutdowns with .gov. Most employees have use or lose annual leave this time of year. So everyone is getting leave slips signed now for 12/21 on. What will happen if there is a shutdown is all scheduled annual leave will be canceled and everyone will be furloughed. After the shutdown all the employees will be paid even though they did not work. All of their canceled annual leave will be restored to be used the following year. If they are retiring in 2019 that leave will be cashed out along with the rest of their annual leave. This is the best thing that can happen this time of year to a fed unless you are deemed essential. Then your leave is canceled and you have to work.

Aww boo fucking boo. 99.9% of .gov workers are lazy turds. And good cops are few and far between these days. Cops go after the tax slave these days and let the real criminals run amok. Would be dangerous going after them. Go harass a truck driver or person commuting to work or go murder some unarmed person instead.

At least this time there wont be guards putting up barriers at National Monuments to keep the people they honor out.

    That was some petty shit.

Guy on the radio today was almost in tears when he recalled real Americans parking on the roadway outside the Battle Road parks in Lexington/Concord and crossing the chain link to visit the historical sites of April 19, 1775 despite Obamas petty BS.

Nobody “has” to show up for work. They are free to find employment elsewhere just like the rest of us. Yes, they will suffer temporarily, but there is plenty of opportunity left in this country that they are welcome to take advantage of.

It's bullshit posturing, they'll never leave it "shut down" for long for fear of the citizens realizing how little it's needed. Hence the hype and fear mongering

This ^^^ is exactly right. We taxpayers should have the power to have our own shutdown. See how many come in to "serve" us once the paychecks quit coming. Just stop the money they'll scatter quick. Be the best thing that ever happened.

Gotta tell ya, of the feds I've met, not worried about it. If they have useful skills they'll be put to work elsewhere.

I'm not flying anytime soon, meh. Shut 'er down. The FAA guys can work for state and local governments managed at the state level instead of the bureaucratic waste of time, money, and energy that is the federal government.

TSA? They don't do shit to make you safe, trust me, it's just the government tapping a billion dollar industry that used to be private. Disband em, or pay for what matters and the lack of funds will see to the rest.

TSA and FAA will work. They are deemed essential.

Not all TSA and FAA employees are deemed 'essential'.

For those employee groups that are deemed essential, their staffing will be lower than normal. That will equate to delays getting through the Smurfs at a security checkpoint and ground delays/ground stops/airborne holding metering traffic into busy terminal areas (think NYC, DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Orlando, DFW, SoCal, NorCal, etc.).

Does that impact everybody? No, it doesn't, and it is easy for one to say "IDGAF, shutterdown" if they aren't directly impacted by the fallout of such stupidity and shitty governance.

The congress doesn't even pass budgets anymore and the last time one 'balanced' was '98 or '99 and that was just optimistic number fudging. The fed goverment is Broken and Broke. F'em strait to Hell.

The only delegated powers granted to the Federal Government are:

    1. The power to coin money
    2. To regulate commerce
    3. To raise and maintain armed forces and declare war
    4. Establish a Post Office.

And that's all the F&^$ they should be doing. Shut it down, keep it shut down.

And dont discount the effect of the SEIU/NAGE union members that will be instructed by their communist bosses to bring the pain to the people in order to makeit a cause celebre.

Trust me there are Dems right now scheming how they can hurt us in order to make Trump look bad. To them ideally there will be a death or two to blame on Trump's (our) desire for border security.

A crashing passenger jet gives Schumer wet dreams.

    1. Abrogated to the Fed
    2. Abrogated to the alphabet agencies no longer responsible to the electorate.
    3. Havent declared war since WWII despite 70 years of conflict and are trying to privatize mil functions
    4. Well 1 out of 4 aint bad as long as you dont require the mail be delivered in a cost efficient manner.
