Suppressors Working to get NFA wait times down

I subscribed to Silenced America's and American Silencer Associations Facebook page. Here is what I got this morning:

I think the NFATCA has been working with the ATF branch on getting a couple of other things rolling. The ASA isn't the first. I would really like to see the sign off really go away.

In somewhat related news, TX has 3 new researchers assisting Sara Jones. All she has to do now is to sign off and that's it. It should speed things up a bit since TX does more transfers then the next 2 or 3 states combined.

I hope a 1 time check is proposed. You apply for a 1-4yr ID card, simular to CHL. once you get the card your gtg for purchase and walk same day. IF NEED BE a in store 3day to 2wk wait. Keep the $200 tax if need be.
Now law enforcement would have a ID system.
Trusts would be a GRANTOR ID. Photo copy for multiple items. The world would make sense.
Keep the stamps on record with the dealer
If there is a limit or issue with quantity , or caliber the goverent needs to moniter the dealer can do the same / simular proceedure they check for when purchasing a firearm.
Possibly electronically, flagged issues easier to find.

Yep-- that makes sense-- but how often does the government do things that make sense? Right now, the backlog of form 4's would be almost caught up if every repeat person was automatically approved-- and like you say, I am still willing to continue paying the $200 tax-- just not the wait.

the best you will see is CLEO sign offs go away. Hiring contract workers to expedite the process will help quite a bit. Kinda sucks texas is reaping the benefits first though. i believe GA was number 3 or 4 in form 3s. ultimately the best way to do this would be privatize. just hope no one catches on that $200 1934 dollars is like $3000 2012 dollars

I dont think something like this should change in price with the times. If it went to $3k to register one item the suppressor market would crash. No one would be willing to pay that.

No it doesn't...

Sarah Jones having more help was very encouraging for me to hear today, hopefully everybody's times improve. I'd buy alot more NFA stuff if it wasn't an 8 month process. The money's not a huge deal, but I hate having $1200 tied up in limbo for that amount of time when I could be buying other shit and enjoy it right now.

Like I said, I hope it improves for EVERYBODY in EVERY STATE soon.

I hope it really does cut down on times. I waited six months for my last form 4's. Now I have some form 1's pending so we'll see how that goes.

KYS338, I didn't want to jack up the other thread related to the Surefire inquiry. But how does one know they're one week out on the approval process? Just curious.

It all starts with an issued license, allowing licensed individuals to purchase. Anything else is a complete waste of time. Its 1963 vs 2012. I would rather see this all happen after November.

If you follow the pending/approval dates for your examiner you can tell almost to the day when you will get an approval. I know within a 3 day window that my stamp is getting approved, and start calling every day to check.

We’d like to give everyone a field report for now. Yesterday, we met with our counterparts from the NFA Branch of the ATF at their HQ in Martinsburg, WV. While there, we toured their facilities, met a large number of the examiners, and we...re introduced to many of the temporary research assistants that they hired in April. We saw the stacks of boxes filled with forms, and even passed the mythical fax machines that must sometimes forward forms to the Bermuda Triangle.

We did leave the meeting with some good news. The ATF is currently beta testing an e-Forms program that they are looking to deploy by this fall. Once it goes live, we expect that processing times will decrease dramatically. We will continue to engage the ATF on this matter, and will assist wherever possible throughout its implementation. As noted before, they have also hired 12 temporary research assistants to aid in the processing of forms. While they are having a positive impact on approval wait times, which will take several months to notice, their contracts end in April of 2013.

Today, we are meeting with the offices of three Congressmen and one Senator to discuss our plans to reform the approval process, and alleviate the inexcusable wait times. We will be posting another field report following our meetings.

Which is a MAJOR improvement from the ATF old old (DC, that is), where a phone call would guarantee your application got put back in the BOTTOM of the stack.

6-12 month waits in the 1990s were the norm.

Thanks for the update! I sure hope something changes because as others have said, it's damn stupid to wait 6 months for something that shouldn't take longer than purchasing a firearm.

Going digital would be a big step if they actually implement it correctly to speed things up. Welcome to this century ATF!

Short term I hope the Assistants help out the CO examiner by even a month or two so the SAS Arbiter I'm about to order comes faster! Just gotta finish up the trust...

Amen... Waiting almost 2 months of a dealer to dealer just so I start the paperwork on my Form 4... This should be 1 time and done.....

Does anyone know what they actually "verify?" It seems to me that once you have been approved once you would be good to go. The examiners are state specific and its not like the state laws regarding class 3 items is changing all the time. So what the hell takes so long?

noob question.... i got my first stamp back a couple of months ago. I transfer to VB, VA soon and im i have my eyes on a can for my 308 maybe 556. but i def want to get a 9'' 300 BLK can you do both on the same stamp? and with that said would it be ok to order one in VA then by the time i get there they would be ready?

two separate stamps. The only way it would be on one stamp is if it was integrally machined in.
