New member

Hey all,

New member joining from western MN. There are no competitions in my area but we have private land to shoot out to 1k yards. Pertinent interests here are reloading, long range shooting, building rifles/light gunsmithing, archery, hunting (whitetail, small game, coyotes day and night with thermal), and all manners of outdoors pursuits/camping/fieldcraft.

I've visited the site plenty of times and always found it to be informative. Glad to be here and, as always, keep learning.

SAC modular sizing die setup

What's a good neck/shoulder bushing and expander mandrel size combo for the SAC modular sizing die for 6.5cm? Im thinking 286 for the bushing and 262 for the mandrel? I got the 283 (which is technically for 25cm) and 261 for the expander mandrel. I watched and followed Gregs (from primal rights) video on how to determine what bushing and expander mandrel sizes to get and now when sizing my brass the shoulder will bump the 2 thou i want but is only sizing the top 2/3rds of the neck so now I've got to find another combo that works correctly. I set up the die using their YouTube instructional video and i also asked sac if this combo was ok for 6.5cm before getting them and they said yes but obviously it's not working out so well. so now I need some help to find a combo that sizes my cases correctly and effectively. My brass has 13.5 neck wall thickness, which is why I chose 283 to get me about 5 thou squeeze to then open back up with 261 (a little over 3 thou after spring back)
Thanks

Loading .280 Remington to Full Potential

I've been handloading rifle cartridges for about thirty years, but never loaded for .280 Remington before and I recently acquired a .280 Remington custom rifle with these specs:

- 24", 1-9" .280 Rem McGowen barrel with a fairly tight chamber and a long throat
- action & magazine handle up to 3.6" COAL

So far I've tested H4350 up to book max loads with various bullet weights to get a sense of the velocities & pressures. Accuracy seems promising, but velocities are on the low side and pressures seem VERY low.

I've heard that RL26 should work well with the heavier projectiles in .280 Rem, but the only official data I've found is for Berger 150s (61.0 gr max @ 2997 fps).
I haven't used RL26 before, so I ran the numbers for 168 grainers with Gordon's Reloading Tool and asked my buddy to do the same with QuickLoad - results look like this:

280_168_RL_26.png

All firsthand information about loading .280 Remington using projectiles weighing 150 to 180 grains would be highly welcome and if you happen to load .280 Rem with RL26, I'd be very interested to hear about your experiences.

25GT Load Data.

For anyone looking at the 25GT, I started using one a couple months back. I got around 500 rounds on it now and a match under its belt (4th place finish at a regional 1 day prs match)

I haven't seen much in the way of load data so I figured I'd share what I've found so far. I keep this intentionally slow but it should give you an idea of where to start.

Barrel is a 28" Benchmark chambered by TS Customs with the alpha .180 reamer and installed by me on a Impact 737.

in the below image I am fire forming new 6mmGT Hornady brass and velocity tends to be about 15-20fps faster after the first firing.

Bullet being used in the above is a 135 Berger Hybrid jumping around .055", range notes 76 degrees, 67% 29.14 station pressure, little to no wind and time of day was 10 minutes before sunset through 20 minutes after... Limited on time, I had some pretty wicked mirage while shooting H4350 and RL-TS 15.5 coming off my shielded maverick and I know groups were affected but I was really more interested in velocities anyway... by the time I got to the loads with StaBall Match & 6.5 I had so little light left that I stopped for the night.

Garmin Xero used for velocity collection.

6.5 Creedmoor Brass NOT CHAMBERING

Hello!

I'm fairly new to reloading as I am just starting with PRS over this past summer.

I've noticed a few times that I have trouble chambering brass that I reload, and have narrowed this issue down to brass that was once fired from a different rifle.

A coworker recently gave me a bunch of SRP brass that has these strange lines on the shoulder - He fired them out of his mossberg patriot. I tried sizing one and chambering it in my rifle (savage axis precision) and it will not chamber. In fact, it locks the bolt up pretty bad, resulting in the need to smack it open with a mallet.

The brass hangs up on the midsection i believe, as is evident from the scratches on the case.

IF this sounds like a logical explanation, are there any sets of dies I can buy that will resolve this issue and squish the sides closer to the base back to factory? I am currently using Hornady Custome Grade dies on a lyman american 8 press.

Thanks!
