    "New" Giraud Trimmer

I broke down and bought the original Giraud Trimmer...I don't know why i waited so long...i trimmed 300 cases in 15min:36secs...that's how God intended case trimming to be done. Great Product Doug!

Forgive me in advance for being potentially offensive in my ignorance...

MAT4, Berger also makes Hybrid (tangent + Secant ogive profiles) versions of these bullets which are jump tolerant and have even higher BCs than the "VLD" versions of the bullets. I hear ya on the old style Berger bullets, but Berger has addressed this with the new Hybrid series. My comment...

Give it a whirl Chris...looks good. My prediction is 57.5ish for your OCW...

Forgive me in advance for being potentially offensive in my ignorance...

gman, You seem to have inferred the wrong conclusion from my post. Nowhere did I say that the .30-06 is the equal of the .300WM. What i did say is the loads the military chose for the .300WM can be achieved by the .30-06. Not only can the .30-06 achieve those velocities with more...

    ultrasonic cleaner questions?

ultrasonic works for brass cleaning, however the brass comes out dull. I am done buying gimmicky ultrasonic solutions...they all work the same...not very well. My ultrasonic solution is lemishine + palmolive dish soap (the green one that's a degreaser)...this works better than all the...

Looking for advice on a long range hunting rig from the reloading perspective

Mike, Any rifle you buy will have it's detractors. No rifle/riflemaker is without problems...reference the massive trigger recall by Remington. What ever rifle you buy, get it in the 30-06 caliber. Make sure the rifle comes w a 26" or longer barrel & that the barrel twist is 1:10. Yes, the...

Looking for advice on a long range hunting rig from the reloading perspective

Mike, I'm going to be contrarian here and recommend you buy the rifle in 30-06. I dont believe you've reloaded for the 30-06 or have much experience with it because of this line from your post "I thought about 30/06, but didn't think the slight increases over .308 were worth the expense/effort...

Forgive me in advance for being potentially offensive in my ignorance...

Great Points Mike! I continue to be shocked at how ill-informed people are and their belief that the more expensive a weapon system is, the more effective it MUST be or that if the military uses it, it must be awesome (reference the M110...a more accurate and reliable rifle can be built for 1/3...

Forgive me in advance for being potentially offensive in my ignorance...

I'm going to respectfully disagree with your assertion. The quote/paraphrase from the instructor is an indication of lack of familiarity with the vintage weapon systems. As previously mentioned, on an as-issued basis, the vintage rifles are just as capable (defined as making hits on man-size...

Help me build a .30-06 load for this rifle. New to precision hand loading...

Chris, Good to see you diving in with both feet. Its a little difficult to make a "call" at this point, but i have the following pointers: 1. If you can get a higher magnification scope, please use that instead...aim small, miss small. If you must stick with your current scope, change out...

Help me build a .30-06 load for this rifle. New to precision hand loading...

Chris, 175gr SMK load data is interchangable w 178gr AMAX load data in most rifles. I've never played with 4064 powder, so i don't have any insight for you expect perform an OCW test to find the accuracy node(s) in your rifles. If you happen across some H-4350 or IMR-4350, the accuracy nodes...

Help me build a .30-06 load for this rifle. New to precision hand loading...

Chris, Your post is a confusing, so i'll assume that you want to stay with the 30-06 but want a load that will be reliable for 600yard plus? Your rifle clearly has potential...any rifle that will shoot crappy ammo (corelokt) into a sub-moa group is something special... The question then...

Deep throat on DPMS SASS 308

You are lucky Jerry. This means that you can take advantage of the "heavy for caliber bullets" in your rig. You can run the 185/190 Bergers, the 208AMAX/210 Bergers and seat them out with enough case capacity to exploit their BC potential...if you are willing to single-load. It does nothing...

New to AR 15 Long Range Shooting

Why did you purchase a 20" AR-15 for long range shooting? It's MUCH easier to do what you've described with a 24-26" barreled AR. 900yards with the AR-15 & factory 77gr bullets? I hope you know quite a bit about wind reading...

    Loads for 30-06

O'Cullkillin, You got 2800ish ft/s out of a 30-06 w 208AMAX and no pressure signs? Game Changer! I can't wait to see some of your groups. If you get an accuracy node in the 2750-2800ft/s range, then this changes my plans for 1,000yard prone matches.
