Rifle groups well @ 100, but not at range?

308 gas guns are harder to shoot well than a bolt gun. I'd also change my target to something I could center up on better, Say a black square or circle with a white center just big enough to be sure the reticle is precisely centered. May just be my old eyes need all the help they can get. Good...

Smith to spin up a Barlein AR15 barrel

+1 for Compass Lake. Frank White is very well known in the High Power community. Never took over 30 days to get a barrel from him, but I usually go with what he has in stock or supply my own blank. A quick call or email to Bonnie will let you know what their current turn around time is.

    Identify my Remington 700?

Looks like the scope base is for a short action instead of a long(30-06 size) action. The cutout for th loading port is too short and the rear screw is not used???

    Bulgling/Failed Brass - S&B Head Stamp - .223

Well this is strange, first time I clicked on you link, I got case heads. Went back to looked after my reply and it then showed side view with splits lengthwise. An over size, as in too big around, chamber would cause this. Too long of a chamber would stretch the brass long ways unless the case...

    Bulgling/Failed Brass - S&B Head Stamp - .223

Could we see the pics of the failure? The bulge? A crack in the chamber? Not real clear on what your problem is. I have seen some very old PMC brass that was way under sized in diameter in the solid area of the head. Shot fine and reloaded many times with out incident. But after firing it looked...

Rifle Scopes Vintage Weaver T Scope questions

pretty sure they are 1/4 moa. At least my T10 is 1/4. Serial # is 3 digits, one of the very early ones. Never head of any bearing that can be removed. Yes just loosen the knods set screws and reposition as needed. The adjustable objective is for parallax. If it's like mine it does not have...

    Accuracy vs Cost, Please Help

WHo "needs" a custom rifle to use for hunting? You'll just scratch it up. Find a decent used 700 or buy one of Dick's which are on sale til Sat I think. Just get it in a size that will fit the caliber you really want. Send it off for a custom barrel (I don't mean a 2nd tier barrel, stick to Hart...

Favorite tool for setting sizing die

I use a Mo's guage. Take a fired case, put in the Mo's guage, it gives you the headspace of the case. Size the case and take a new reading. If it was fired in your chamber,(full power load) then it gives you the size of your chamber. Adjust die to bump the shoulder back what ever amount you...

I dont get it; 1 stubborn case out of 100

How does the Wilson case guage compare to your actual chamber? How does a case fired in your gun fit in the guage?

    Varget IN STOCK ANYWHERE?

4 venders had 8 lbers at last Atlanta gun show. And lots of them compared to years past. Most brands avail. Not all numbers but lots of powder. Stick powder was up to $229 a jug. Ball a little less. Bullseye was $169 I think. I passed on it. Did pick up a 8lber of Solo1000 for 120 OTD! Cheaper...

    Winchester 70 sale value help

The Winchester scope adds "zero" to the value of the rifle in my opinion. Also being a 243, I would subtract the price of a barrel job since you have no idea of the number of rounds and 243 ain't easy on barrels. He may get a little life out of it but that is not a given. Since its a 243, it can...

    Rem 40X stainless question

Don't remember 40x's coming with McMillian stocks. Especially with the adjustable but asm. 40x barrels are 27.25 inches long(40xc are 24 in.) and have a slight straight taper. 1st 2 I pulled out of safe have caliber plus a couple letters stamped just ahead of recoil lug on left side , from...

    compass lake chamber

Add me to the fan club for CLE match chambered Douglas barrels. Tried it on my latest barrel cause I wasn't happy with accurracy on mag length bullets having such a long jump. Now I make adjustments even when they are in the X ring.

Need advice on a long range rig

As soon as you get the 300 mag, go ahead and put in an order for a top of the line barrel. Most barrel makers are quoting 6-12 months for delivery. That 300 will need a barrel sooner than later. This way no waiting.

    Rem 700 Bolt rebuild

Kinda hard for the brass to swap ends with out coming at least partially out of the action. I bet you probably don't work the bolt hard and fast during your usual shooting. With the clock running you put some muscle in it causing the brass to come out faster hitting the scope turrent. My hipower...

Looks like the one that comes on the Stillar. I'd ask them.

Barrel burned out, who should re-barrel?

I would give it a good cleaning to get the copper and carbon out of it. JB and or a good scrub with a brass brush in the throat and rear third of the barrel. Why not let Accurate Ordinance replace the barrel? Were you not happy with the original barrel? I'm sure they can get what ever type...

Seems CM and Creedmoor are being used interchangably here. I thought the CM was the Competion Match ????
