6.5 Grendel v .300 Blackout

One of the unsung benefits of the 300 blackout for suppressed shooting is that you don't need a special can. Got a 30 cal can? You can shoot your 300bo with it. Got a 30 cal can and want to shoot 350 legend? You need another can. The 300bo is great for those with a "generalist" mindset to suppression...

Although it's "coming soon" to Midway, I'm already planning on a bulk buy of the Frontier 123gr FMJ.
I'm expecting it to be orders of magnitude better than the Wolf 100gr stuff.
I had written the Wolf stuff off when I tested it in the 24" Stoner, but subsequently discovered and repaired a solid contact between a bipod mount screw and the barrel; so retesting the Wolf is back on the schedule now.
I'm not looking for competition grade accuracy; just simply something equivalent to military ball ammo performance. A non-magnetic projectile makes it far more desirable.
I'm also hoping the 6.5mm 123gr FMJ becomes available as a reloading component; it's not in the current line of Hornady products.

That's nice that we have another Grendel choice coming with the Frontier line. I own two ARs in 300BLK, a 10.5" Pistol and a 16" rifle and an 16" AK-74 in it (Built in 2016 in case of Hillary win and a ban on ammo imports and I still wanted a .30 cal AK). I own three ARs in 6.5 Grendel. A 14.5" pistol, 18" rifle, and a 22" rifle. I would say each cartridge fills a certain role but I really enjoy 6.5 caliber rifles (Also have two Swede Mausers and a 6.5CM Savage Stealth).
300BLK is the easy to work with round. I reload for it currently as .30 cal projectiles are so cheap and abundant. Having said that, I really only shoot it with a can. I still need to cook up some subs, but it is a fun round. Steel cased ammo is going to help the round out even more. The best accuracy I could get out of the 16" rifle was 1.5" at 100 yards in a 5 shot group with factory 125 grain OTM Remington loads. I haven't had a chance to test my 110 and 125 grain hand loads at a distance more than 25 yards yet.
I have only bought 6.5 factory ammo so far. I've tested the 22" rifle to a point where I have a good idea how it will perform with different ammo. With Wolf it's 2.5" at 100 yards. PPU is 1" at 100 yards. Fusion is .7" at 100 yards. These were all 5 shot groups. Even with PPU, I was able to hit an 8" gong at 400 yards, 17/20 rounds after figuring out the wind. I also tried the same feat with a 5.56 rifle and it was pretty much the opposite. I still need to test the 14.5" Pistol (will probably pin and weld the SilencerCo flash hider) and the 18" rifle. The 18" rifle is next in the chute for testing. The 14.5 and 18" guns are not really expensive, but not junk either. I spent a bit more to build the 22" rifle and it's been excellent.

Sure, had a perfectly good troll thread started back in 2014, progressed into a great, back biting, throat cutting, slugfest. Picked back up in '19, still going strong. And now calmer heads and the voice of reason killed it before the new year! Might as well take my popcorn and go elsewhere!!
Load your own Fusion, 120gr Speer Gold Dot. I'm working up with W748 in Starline brass, with WSR for now. I'm loading for a 24" AR, and following up with a 20" AR.
300BO is a great round that's ideal for something I'm just not interested in doing.

Got the Grendels out to play yesterday.
120 Gold Dot, Starline Brass, WSR primers, increments of 29.4gr, 29.7gr, and 30.0gr W748. Testing was done with the 24" AR.
Accuracy improved with charge weight incrementation. Was at about 1MOA with 30.0gr. Next trip out, I'm trying higher, the 30.0gr load showed nearly no pressure signs at all. What works best will then be tried in the 20".
Also brought the PA-10 308 along for its firstfire/sight-in.
Using IMI 150gr FMJ, it ran like a kitten. Next trip out I'll be comparing IMI 168 Semi-Auto Match against Starline Brass, WLR, Speer 168 Gold Dot, 43.5gr of IMR-4064, and the same load with 42.5gr of IMR-4064.
