New match rifle. I know, I know: it’s only 3 shots, but it still ain’t bad! 30 rds on the barrel. Not sure of the exact velocity but from everything I’ve read here it should be around 3k. 26” 7.7 twist barrel. GAP reamer (I think it’s .199 freebore).

Edit 1.1.20: Alpha SRP virgin brass, 41.5 H4350, CCI 450, 110 Atip, 2960fps, SD: 8. 2.241” bto. 65 rds down the barrel.

UPDATE 03.09.20: 263rds down the barrel. Velocity has settled in at 3055fps average over 10 shots with an SD: 4.4 on 1x fired brass. Still shooting lights out.

The article is pretty spot on, but left out some key details. I dumped 6mm creedmoor due to 2 things: barrel life and chasing the lands for accuracy. I never had "bad accuracy" with my barrel, but you have to constantly chase the lands with the round as it is kind of a barrel burner. For most I’m sure that doesn’t matter, but the round gets expensive when you factor in the cost of the barrel over 800-1200 rounds.

You should be fine. I had the 87 VMax vaporize from a 6SST w. 1:7.5" @ 3550+.

Been running 41.5 grains of H4350 for a while with the 108’s. 41.5 has me slinging them @ 3130.

Backed it off a grain and shot two groups with 40.5. Just a tad bit slower (3050) but will save some brass/barrel life. 26” Proof Stainless.

I'm waiting patiently for my 6CM to be finished. Heavy Palma Krieger Barrel, cut down to 28". Building off a 700Rem action. Keystone Tactical Stock. Plan on 87gr and 105gr bullets. It will be fun finding the load that works for it. Maybe by the time its done it will be warm enough to go shoot. Weather has been all over the place here in Eastern Mt. 6 Creedmoor and 6XC are almost EXACTLY the same. Look at the reamer prints an it will be obvious to you. It is kind of a scam to call them two different cartridges.

Just starting to do load work on a Deviant action with an 8 twist Krieger barrel. Not sure on throat or freebore, since this was used when purchased. My question is for anyone that has done testing on Alpha large and small primer brass with 7-10 firings on the brass. Does there seem to be a difference on how tight the pockets stay, and how much difference have you noticed in velocities with similar bullet weights? I want accuracy over speed, but part of the reason for buying the 6 CM was to get more velocity over the 6BRA or Dasher that I use for competitions. I'm starting out testing both R17 and H4350 in both large and small primer brass. Small primers are CCI 450's and large are 210 Match. I have other primers to test, but this is where I'm starting.

Another question; in the process of ordering a reamer for a couple barrels. My plan is to set these barrels up for shooting 95-105 grain bullets. Most of the bullets will be hunting bullets, with occasional comps in hunter class target matches. What have you found is the best freebore for this weight of bullets? I will be mainly using Berger hunting vld's, with an occasional Swift Scirocco 90 grain thrown in.

Thanks, good to know there are options out there. It looks like that old lot was some good shit. I have several 8 lbers of H4350, since it gets used for my 1000 yard competition rifle. I'm testing the R17 just to see if there is a little more velocity with safe pressures.
Did you try any other primers besides the 450's? I figured with the small pockets, it would be best to see if a magnum primer gives me better ignition with the amount of powder that is used.

I only use 450's for my small primer loads, they give me low SD numbers and have been 100% reliable so no reason to look for better.

I have finally had a chance to do a bit of testing with R17 and H4350 with the Berger 105 hunting VLD. My reason for this bullet is that it will be a long range hunting load for red deer and pigs in New Zealand where I live for part of the year.
I found H4350 to be a better choice than R17 in my rifle from an accuracy standpoint. I finally remembered my labradar yesterday so I could get some velocity readings to go with accuracy tests. My barrel must be fairly slippery compared to some of the velocities I have seen here. I averaged 3125 with 40.7 grains in a 5 shot sequence, with an ES of 12 and SD of 6. 41 grains averaged 3128 with an ES of 24 and a SD of 13. No hard bolt lift, but one of the 450 primers blanked on me at 41 grains, so that is telling me that 40.7 is about it for this combo. Both loads are a little under .5 moa.
I'm going to play with neck tension a bit, and maybe some seating depths before calling it good. Cheers

Had a bit of a surprise using a different primer yesterday. Used Federal 205M to see if I could bring ES/SD down from the 450's. 40.8 grains of H4350 with Amax 105's (great hunting bullet) gave me 3065 average for 5 shot groups with an ES of 8 and a SD of 3. Group was @.5 for several groups. Found a problem with the firing pin piercing random primers going back to when the barreled action was purchased, and decided to send it off to Gre Tan for a bushing job. Know that won't be a problem when I get it back. Cheers

Interesting follow up to my last post: I was able to obtain a box of factory loaded Berger brand 6mm Creedmoor which is loaded using the same components I use (Lapua brass and Berger 105 hybrid). Same day I shot 5 of them back to back with with my pet load of 41gn of RL16.

factory Berger seated to an avg coal or 2.745 inches.
my pet load i have moved to be seated at 2.780

factory Berger: 2896 FPS avg SD 7.2 ES 19. I only shot 5 of these.

Pet load of 41.0 RL16, virgin Lapua brass and Berger 105H: I did two shot strings. 10 rounds was avg 3092 FPS SD 7.7 ES 25. Then I did an 18 round string avg 3094 FPS SD 8.8 ES 31

air temps were 65 degrees 2500 ft elevation.30 degrees air temp cost me 14 FPS.

I guess in conclusion I’m surprised the factory Berger is 100FPS slower. I didn’t think 41 grains or RL16 was on the high side. Certainly no pressure signs and recoil is non-existent in the AI ASR. The barrel a carbon proof prefit which now has 218 rounds on it

I’m shooting 38.9 grains with a 112 match burner in ADG brass. I find rl-16 is fast. I get 2995 fps. I had it running real hot at 39.9 grains. It was pushing 3080 fps. But I also run into pressure sooner with ADG

I shot the Berger Ammo with the 105 hybrid out of a 20” tikka and got 2,900 also.

I was thinking the same. There’s data for the 110 SMK’s with Varget, but nothing for the Barnes 112.

Looking to get a new 6 CM bbl.My choice of chambers are the 6 CM. and the "match" 6 CM chamber. With a Max range of 600 Yds. I don't see the need to shoot anything heavier than the 108 ELD's. Also my choices are either a 26" with a 1-8 T or a24" with a 1-7.5 T
I don't thing there would be much difference between the 24 & 26 " bbl'a as far as MV goes. And the 1-8 T would probably do better with the Hornady and Nosler 105's. This will be for "steel banging" only

Remember, coated bullets take more powder to get the same speed. That friction reducing coated bullet won’t build as much pressure as a naked bullet.

The 6 Creed match chambers have less free bore than the standard chamber.

Hand loads or factory ammunition?

Barrel twist, unless you’re looking to run the heavies then the 1:7 or 1:7.5 is ideal if not 1:8 is fine.

Barrel length, You’ll loose anywhere from 25 to 70 FPS between the two, however, it could be more, and it could be less.

Just to bang steel? Take a pick, you’ll be happy with either.

I might have some after another 2,000 rds. Just started loading for a RPR in 6CM. Tested from 36.0 to 41.5 of H4350 and Hornady 105 match. Had the best groups at 37.6 with a velocity of 2890 so I figured I’d shoot it there and see how it goes. I’m seating .020 off the lands, so time will tell.

Alright, my 6 creed project is finally coming together. I need some loads to break in the barrel before I start load development. I have brass, nosler 105 cc’d, and h4350. I was thinking of just loading up 20 at 40.5 just for sight in and barrel break in, seated 20 thou off the lands. Any better ideas?
