7mm PRC

I'm ecstatic they finally came out with the 7 PRC.

I just can't decide on a barrel length and I'll be running suppressed.

Building on a Weatherby Vanguard action in a Oryx chassis.

So, 24" or 26" probably use it for hunting and long range use. Leaning 24" after seeing some of the velocities, but wondering if I'd get the same performance as a 24" if I shoot suppressed with a 22" barrel.

So I ended up putting my 7 prc barrel on tonight and ran 5 threw a cip mag to see how they fed and they fed flawless. I will do more tomorrow when I shoot it. Going to be very windy so figured I could just get some rounds down barrel and test speed ect. Try to shoot some groups factory ammo hornady 180 eldm

First shots in the new 7 prc factory ammo 180 eldm. Avg speed was 2957 26 inch barrel. That group was 14 plus shots suppressed and a few with the brake. Pretty happy with the PVA prefit so far. Put 40 rounds down barrel today going to play with some handloads with n565 and 190 berger. I did resize some and primer a few wasn't to thrilled how the primer felt already. At the .200 line measured these are just the last numbers number 31 to 315 fired and sized 305 worried it might not be enough but we will see

Curious, whats the recoil like on this as a field cartridge compared to other 7mms?

I shot it braked and suppressed and recoil is nothing honestly. I have shot 7 mags 7mm-300 win mags 7 saum 7 max and 7mms all tame pretty easy but I will shoot it with nothing next time I'm out but my rifle is very heavy its not a hunting setup

Finally got out with the prc today, super happy with it even with factory ammo.

Didn't shoot for groups, did 10 rounds to get a zero and velocity. The 180 ELD Match averaged out at 3030fps over the 10 rounds. SD and ES were acceptable, nothing to write home about, labradar is still in the truck so don't have exact numbers. Seems like ES was 20 ish and SD was low teens.

Off to the 1-mile range, hits to 1000 were child's play. It was quite windy, 10-15, switchy for about half the session but then luckily settled at about 150-170.

Not going to lie, I knocked the snot out of the 1 mile target. I didn't keep count, but I'd estimate I put over 80% on target, even with the switchy winds. It's a 2 moa target so not super challenging, but still was very happy with the first outing and factory ammo.

Recoil was tame with an APA Fat Bastard.

Best thing is now I have over 100 brass I get to reload.

37:40 Obviously now we know that this is incorrect. @AZLONGRIDER

Edit: interestingly enough it looks like Gunwerks edited that part out of their podcast. If you listen to this podcast on Spotify it still includes his comment that 7LRM will soon become 7PRC. It’s also been removed from the Apple version of the podcast.

Have any new manufacturers announced 7prc brass yet? Was hoping to see some come out of Shot Show after several manufacturers hinted that it was in the works but I haven’t seen anything official.

I seen precision reloading have adg brass on site just out of stock. I talked to peterson they said hopefully q2 or so haven't heard from adg. Hornady said q2 or q3 for brass. Alpha said they prolly had plans on getting into the magnum brass game soon.

You mean the brass is shipping to dealers?
No, its available in sku for order. Adg has a production schedule, and they have to fit it in. How many 7prc handloaders are out there right now? Not many. It'll be 3rd quarter I bet before availability. Or it'll be a small release to evaluate the quality of the product, and demand. Then a bigger release late in the year.

It's a catch 22. There are no reloaders, because there is no brass. There is very little ammo on the shelves to source brass, and it's Hornady brass, which sucks. My brother wanted to build a 7 PRC, but decided against it because there is no ammo and no brass. Hornady kind of fucked this rollout up.

Because it's far more profitable for them if they release a cartridge and you can only buy factory ammo, just in time for hunting season, so they fucked it up intentionally.

I bought 5 boxes of the 180 ELD just to break the barrel in and have brass in an emergency should Peterson and ADG get delayed and the rifle is still 3 months out so hopefully timing for brass will be ok. Forget Lapua, last I heard they were focused on 5.56 and 7.62 production only to replenish what's being used in the Ukraine.

Wtf do they need lapua brass in the Ukraine fight for, is there a skills stage? Pretty sure Lake City and Black Hills is plenty good. Go figure, DOD contracts going to the nammo group.

Components are scarce, I'm sure it's a consolidated effort across the board.

Yeah, I bought 100 180 eldm ammo for the brass. It will get me by until someone legit releases some. I too would love to see Lapua, but not holding my breath on that one. ADG, Peterson would be great as well.

You guys complaining about availability... you should have tried to get some 7 SAUM brass in the last few years. At least you can get the Hornady ammo right now. I would have stayed with SAUM if I saw the brass situation improving, but it won't. The brass industry will support 7PRC, just like they have 300 and 6.5 PRC.

The whole "war" is just Russia pushing western influence off his door step. Nato treaty breaches, chemical research labs, us political crime family corruption, ol Vlad just got tired of the shit. And now a who gives a F country in East Europe has cost us near 200B in more debt. We started it.....just saying. FJB

Barrel came in today. Ready to see what it’s all about. 18” Carbonsix.

Looking forward to your velocity. My barrels are in transit to get deep fluted and cut/threaded to length. My original plan was an 18" and 20" but I'm half tempted to cut one of them 16.5" and the other 18". My barrels are obviously steel and the contour is 1.200" full length straight. Getting Murder Hornet type fluting.

That will end up looking great. I’ll definitely post up velocities and groups when I get some time squared away to shoot it.

Made it to the range today. 50 degrees out, 10mph wind. Magnetospeed was having issues but managed to record 13 shots. Average velocity with the 18” barrel was 2748 with factory 175 ELDX Precision Hunter, which is about where I expected to be. I did notice stiff bolt lift on some of the shots. Groups were great and I suspect with some handloads this rifle will be a great shooter. Recoil wasn’t bad either. Overall very happy with the rifle.

I contacted hornady they wanted me to send them in but after calling them back I decided not to waste my time because he said we will see of they chamber fine and fire with no issues if so then not effecting anything. Other guys sent some in waiting to hear what they get told

Nice. Hope they don't blow up on me.
