Any long term thoughts if anyone has gone AXMC vs AXSR and why they chose that? I have an ATX and an MRAD, but really considering grabbing a long action AI.

I have both (2 MCs, 1 SR). I changed the MC bolts to the SFP versions. I slightly prefer the MC over the SR, but honestly they’re so close that I wouldn’t care either way. They each have some pluses/minuses, but they’re pretty minor.

MC probably has a more reliable trigger, and I like the 3-position safety better. Large firing pin is more robust, and not an issue IF you stick to the 3 cartridges it was originally designed for. If you don’t NEED an ARCA rail in front of the mag well, the grip is more comfortable to carry. 30 MOA rail vs 20 on the SR is sort of a personal preference thing.

SR has ARCA rails everywhere. Ambi safety (meh for me), QR levers for stock adjustments are cool, but thumbscrews on MC are fine. No LFP bolt issues since they’re all SFP. Trigger is more adjustable to lighter weight, but MC is still good for me and rock solid reliability.
Same mags, same barrels.
You really can’t go wrong with either one.

You need a long action with all of the bolts. It is amazing to have a rifle that can do 6mm to 338 LM.

The MC is great. Not to open a can of worms, but the MC is bonded, and the SR is not. There aren't many more differences than that, provided you are right-handed. RH people will get the SFP assembly. Southpaws are SOL and only get LFP. Yes, you can bush your FP and bolt. I have strong opinions about why that is dumb as a southpaw. The bottom line is that If you're a southpaw, then buy the AXSR and buy everything you can in terms of bolts and firing pin/shroud assemblies before they are no longer available.

You'll never shoot the MRAD again, so you might as well sell it to fund the LA AI

Yeah I’ve been shooting the ATX for about a year now in PRS and really love it, but also really like the MRAD, which is set up as a contract MK22. I kinda just wanted both to see which I like more, but dropping 10k on an AXSR seems extreme. I’ll do it if I have to, but I’m not opposed to a nice AXMC since I’m right handed.

I’m familiar with the LFP vs SFP on the MC, but the only way I’d probably run into an issue is with those 6creed-308 rounds, which they now make the SFP for. I’m also MIL/LE so the AXMC-LE interests me. If anyone has an AXSR for sale though, definitely message me.

I think bolt availability is the issue for both of those now?
And don't forget that the MC comes with the large firing pin which may not like small rifle primers

My 300 win mag bolt is LFP but my 308 bolt is SFP. I love my AXMC and I don’t need what you get with the ASR. I put a ARCA rail on mine and put on a RRS foregrip. The barrel changes are the same and accuracy is the same. The ASR has the new comp trigger but I haven’t ever had any issues with the AXMC trigger. I personally like the 3 position safety and financially speaking I think the AXMC is the better value. I run mine in 6.5CM mostly and I use the short action magazines with the adaptor but if were starting from scratch I would ditch the adapter and run the larger short action magazines that were designed with the ASR.

I’m familiar with the LFP vs SFP on the MC, but the only way I’d probably run into an issue is with those 6creed-308 rounds, which they now make the SFP for.

With the LFP 308 bolt I also ran into primer issues with Berger factory small-primer 6.5CM ammo (but never Hornady ELD Match, which is large primer). Last I heard, Berger has discontinued small primer 6.5 ammo though.
With the LFP 338 bolt I had primer issues with Berger factory 300NM. I’ve never had issues with 338NM or 338LM (factory or handloads). For the 300WM bolts I only have SFP, so I don’t know how the LFP version fares.

I put a comp trigger on my AXMC and my AT, and it is a nice trigger. Not sure if I like my OG AI trigger better but don't matter as now I have both for each AI.

The comp I had in my ATX was a phenomenal trigger. I prefer the original trigger in my AT’s as they work well for what I use the rifles for. But when specifically target shooting and shooting for groups the comp trigger was a noticeable improvement

This is why I prefer the original and won’t swap to the comp. Although realistically the comp failure rate is very low and has been shared by AI on here. Right down to the amount they see issues with a year

If I had the option I would have gone with the AX MK3 since it retains some of the features of the AXMC that I'd like (notably it still has the detent hole for magwell converter) but has all the AXSR features that matter as well.

Not really? I think you can go to euro and MH today and get pretty well sorted if you’re not LH.

Been trying to find a bag/solution for the axsa hump for a bit here for better stability for prs.

I saw this a while ago from area 419 but they were discontinued and I was never really sold. However someone was selling a used one here so I snagged it just to try. Seems like a solid solution and I get much better contact across the whole rail with a bag.

Only compromise is I can’t slide my bipod have to quick detach and move to rail but I do that a lot less in stages than trying to get stable off bags.

This is also a lot lower profile.

Personal Anecdote:

My first Accuracy International AT308 had a 26” Lothar Walther 1/12” barrel (~ 2014).

My first and only bolt gun for quite some time.

I could never get it to group adequately.

This setup started me down the path of handloading.

Thought I could improve its accuracy.

Got fairly adept in making my own “technically and dimensionally perfect” handloads, but shooting remained horrible.

At around 3,000 to 4,000 rounds or so, thinking it was already shot out from the newbie handloader abuse that I heaped on it, I replaced the barrel with an AINA 26” AX profile 1/10” barrel by Dave Tooley.

Bugholes!

Turns out my shooting wasn’t the issue…

Later, I find out that compared to brass from my AINA barrel, the Lothar Walther specimen’s fireformed cases were rather long and had bloated bases - not on the same level as MG fired brass, but bad enough that I needed a Small Base FLS Die to “normalize” them for use in the newer barrel.

Turns out my first barrel was probably a dud…

I still think it's one of the nicest looking AIs. Absolutely loved mine for prone/ bench/ tripod shooting. Just getting it to settle on a bag. I don't recall what you have as an option back when I had mine... might have changed my mind. If I was going to do a prs rig I'd just stick with an ATX... I've handled enough now to know the only thing holding me back at that point is my crap shooting skills.

I guess it happens. The LW 1:12 that came with my AT was a laser. I regret selling it, but I love my 27" Proof Competition contour 1:10 twist. I can shoot the 185 Berger bullets without any issue

My LW 1:12 that came with my AT put three 308 Federal FGMMs into the same hole its first time out the gate. I am happy.
