I have a cdi on mine in a manners stock and I’m about 99% positive there is no machining done to my action. I lived fairly close to Jeff when he had his shop so I went there and he inletted my manners while I waited but I do not believe the action was touched. I could pull it out of the stock and look if needed.Doesn’t the FN receiver need to be machined to utilize CDI bottom metal?
Thanks palAn SPR muzzle diameter will be .924" on a 24" barrel.
He did mine and did the mod on the action for free. I remember everyone saying it's a very minor machining operation but don't remember the details.I have a cdi on mine in a manners stock and I’m about 99% positive there is no machining done to my action. So I am considering selling my fn SPR a1, what is a reasonable asking price for these rifles now a days? Rifle has relatively low round count.
Just curious on a selling price.

I know you were joking.I was being a smart ass, but they’re hard to price. Best bet is to look at recent completed sales on Gunbroker or here.
To build a similar rifle today you’d be looking at:
Stock: $700
Action: $1,000
Bottom metal: $400
Quality barrel with chambering: $800
$2,900 to build a similar quality rifle today.
However, it’s an old rifle that sold on sale for $1,000. Older people know that and price based off of that. New shooters don’t see the value, are scared of CRF barrel installation costs, and it’s not a gay aluminum chassis with quick change barrel system.
Realistic price with everything you have is $1,200-$1,500.
ETA: Who did the muzzle brake? I usually deduct from my offers for aftermarket work unless it was done by a very big name shop.
IMO they are still one of the best rifles at any price.I know you were joking.
Being an older rifle I figure they are still a damn good one.

I like the paint job. You do that yourselfView attachment 8415855
It has a different rake on it and a pic rail installed.

Yea I did the paint job myself. Turned out very nice.Does it have the NEAR rail or aftermarket?
Has anyone tried any of the shorter cartridges (6BR family / GT) with their SPRs?
I cycled 10 rounds of 6GT through one of mine recently with the factory TBM, and everything seemed to feed alright...but 10 rounds is a pretty small sample compared to the barrel life if everything doesn't jive well down the road.
I figure that the CRF would be beneficial, but didn't know if someone has already been down this road and had experience to share.
X/47 isn’t 100% in the tbm
Well shit... I have had perfect reliability in my two SPR 6.5x47s with both the factory DBM, and later with the TBM. I guess that goes to show that all results will not be the same.
In all fairness though, I probably only have ~350 rounds through the one TBM, and maybe ~150 through the other...maybe I'm sitting on a future headache.
I suppose a guy running an old CDI and AICS combo could run whatever he wants to.

I have an SPR action chambered in 6CM with bottom metal. GT will be fine based on my experience with other CRF actions but I can't speak to the native DBM.
My 2 SPRs run AI mags but only one is opened up. I suppose if I do go with a GT or dasher, I'll use the one that's opened up so I have a larger selection of mags I can try.
I'm guessing that with your AI mag setup that you ought to be pretty solid with running the GT or Dasher with an HRD kit.
However, I've been wrong before (many times).
Bought an SPR back in 2012 and sold it to a buddy of mine. Coming full circle, I traded him a scope for my old gun and I'm in the process of converting it to 6CM. I've read good things on the Hide about the CG Xtreme trigger, but I can't find it for sale anywhere. Are they still a thing and does anyone have any recent firsthand experience with them?
Single stage is best stage....
