My smith said he could use a universal action wrench to get my build complete - that sound okay?

I doesn’t sound okay to me. Buy the correct ARC action wrench and have him use that. Most universal wrenches wrap around the outside and don’t allow for the machined-on picatinny rail.

Unless HNT26 means something other than the MDT chassis, you’re not going to use a fancy steel BDL on a chassis….

I ended up having to change my setup due to compatibility issues. What I originally wanted was the Mausingfield with the dovetail rings and a flush fitting BDL magazine in 300 PRC in a HNT26 chassis. No go - not to mention even if I could it was going to be $2,600 for just the action, rings, and bottom metal. I'm not opposed to spending money to get what I want, but when I can get a Coup De Grace lightweight action with a 3rd AICS mag and picatinny rings for ~$1100 it is kind of a no brainer. The Mausingfield really only offered controlled feed which, while nice, is not worth $1,500.

But then I had more issues. Getting a magnum cartridge to fit into a flush fitting HNT26 compatible magazine. I can't understand how what I'm looking for is so unusual. A long action magnum cartridge with a lightweight action & chassis seems pretty straightforward, but I ended up with the following:

They are. As stated before they are $600 in steel. Titanium is no longer available. Also Bella made it sound like once they are sold they are gone as they are focusing all of their efforts on the CDG action for the time being.

What magazine? You can't use Hawkins Hunter mags with the CDG as far as I know. Assume you are building it on a long action? Accurate Mag makes a 3rd 300 PRC AICS mag, which aesthetically will look nearly the same as a 3rd 6.5 PRC AICS mag...

Good News for you, the CDG is control feed while also being able to single feed.

I guess that would depend on what "universal" means. The CDG is a three lug action with a fat bolt body. I would just pay the price and get the wrench that's made specifically to fit the action. Keeps everything simple that way, with no extra rigging to make it work.

Planning on running factory ammo for some time in my CDG build, I am sending my CDG and a Proof blank to Owens Armory in AZ because I have a cert from an NRL Hunter match for a free chamber/thread/crown/cerakote. Doing a 300 PRC, should I ask them to notch the feed ramp while they have it? I'm not worried about ever needing the length for handloads, but I do worry about factory ammo moving forward in the magazine under recoil and then not feeding - is that a valid concern?

This got lost as the last post on the last page I think - anyone have any input? Action and barrel are in hand, so its off to the smith tomorrow after my action wrench arrives. Should I just ask for a notch?

I called ARC. Since I don't have my magazines yet and I want to get this action and barrel to the smith I asked them if the LW suffered from the same issue as the regular, after a short hold they came back and told me that the originals had been revised to fix it and that all LWs had the revision from day one. I was spurred to question it because the LW looks like it would feed .50 BMG ha.

anyone know how to get this action to stop flinging brass so far and forward? Im tired of losing brass at prs matches. Yes i know if I run the bolt slower it wont throw them as hard but its hard to run slow when youre on the clock

I saw someone used a door card holder on the ejection port side so the brass hit that and deflected down to keep it from going forward

so I haven't called American rifle company since they were quite new, like 1 or two years after the large shank savage original mausingfield I had to call about a firing pin spring. then later about some mausingfield M2(or m5 I can't remember.. it had an M)

anyways, very pleasant man but if you've never spoken to Ted K at arc its... difficult. he's extremely smart, and I'm extremely average. when he tried to dumb his thoughts down he was still using like 5 syllable words that I barely comprehended.
he finally landed on "semi hemispherical" or something like that for the firing pin, and I was like "Yes, she's still that I think!"

anyways now he has someone who answers the phones who can answer my plebean magazine questions and doesn't use gigantic words that makes me rethink getting a masters...

I assure you they are not aluminum. Mine has worked flawlessly. Smooth as glass, feeds perfectly. It's a steal IMO and I'm cheap. Really need to get another one ordered.
